The Dis Goes to Italy 5/24 - 6/1/2012 Viva Italia!!!!

Kevin, I have a question for you. I'm hoping your Italy experience can help me out. Oddly enough I'm wondering if you know where the Disney Store is in Rome? I know.....I know.......the last thing we need is another Disney Store. Unfortunately we've succumb to the Vinylmation craze and Rome has an official Rome vinylmation of course only available at the local Disney Store. I would love to get my hands on one of these and was wondering if you've come across this store throughout your travels.

I don't know if Kevin has, but Google doesn't put the store very far away from our hotel. http://g.co/maps/cbynv

Jack beat me to it, but it's not far from our hotel.

There is a Disney Store in Florence and Venice as well.

The Venice Disney Store is a bit harder to find, but we did it.

Hi Folks,

I was just asked if it's ok to bring a travel iron on this Adventure and the answer from ABD was a resounding NO.

It is illegal to use an iron in a hotel room in Italy and carries a very stiff penalty.

I also asked about curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers and I was told that they are ok....but that you need a very good converter (read pricey), as the electricity will almost definitely blow them out.

Keep in mind that an adapter makes your male plug fit their female outlet.

A converter will convert 220 - 240 to 110...which is what most US items use.

Thought this might be helpful.

This was my excuse for a brand new straightener (flat iron)--needed a dual voltage!! Not only is the converter required pricey--it is MASSIVE!

I also bought a dual voltage hair dryer, my iPad and iPhone are dual voltage. I think we are good with no converter and just a couple of adapters!

HOWEVER--the No Iron thing is freaking me out a little. I will have to research the penalty to decide if it is worth the chance!

I am stalking your board in an effort to live vicariously through all of you :thumbsup2 and just wanted to throw in a shout out for the Eagle Creek packing folders. I used them for the first time on our London/Paris ABD and will not travel without them again. They really did a great job not only with conserving space but also with keeping the clothes from getting wrinkled.

The ABD guides make a point of walking the group past the Disney stores in each city. Mostly for a photo op, but as they're sure to find out with this group, shopping will have to be fit in to the daily itinerary

Thank Goodness! I've already gotten the fish eye from my family when I reported that there was a Disney store in Rome that I was going to try to get to. Yes, I'm going all the way to Italy and after the Pantheon and the Pope I don't want to miss the Disney store. So sue me! :rotfl: That's why I travel with my peeps. They understand me. :3dglasses

So white capris. A bold move or an accident waiting to happen? I guess we'll wait and see! :goodvibes

Laurie,

I just noticed your ticker for the Boardwalk, Cathy and I are going to be there around the same time, PM me the dates and maybe our paths are going to cross!

Frank

Thanks, Heather!!! I can't wait to hear all about it! Make sure you post pictures, because I LOVE your shots from DLP!

Thanks, Laurie! I will definitely put the photos up on Flickr. After finally getting a chance to spend some quality time with my guidebooks this weekend, I am more excited than ever about the trip and the photos to be.

Hello all our ABD friends! I plan on living vicariously through Mike and Christy and Val and Jeff when they are on the Backstage Magic tour this summer!

I want to thank everyone for keeping the travel box gift a secret!! I just got home from a family trip and opened the box, which came while I was away. Super cool present, and not any of my guesses.

White capris! I am so jealous. I am a total spiller, can't even dream of white capris.

Is the Uffizi on the list of "official" activities for Florence?

I am thinking of going to the Borghese Museum on our free afternoon in Rome. I am sorry I haven't been able to be in chat - you all may have already talked about this. If anyone else is interested, I'd be happy to order tickets.

Hi Heather!
We were looking at the Borghese Museum. When were you thinking of going?
When do you arrive? Some of us are doing a food tour 9:45 am on 5/24. Would love for you to join us.

I think between Jeff and I, a steady stream of media will help fill your BSM void, Heather. :woohoo:

The Uffizi is not on the official list, but it's on mine! I can't decided between it and climbing the dome though. I don't know if we can fit both in. But I REALLY want to see the Birth of Venus in person.

Borghese is also on my radar but I'm not sure of a day for it. When were ya thinking?

In other news, I've been working so hard lately that it's cause my "condition" to get much, much worse. But that's a silver lining I think because today my therapist changed programs and started to focus on my neck instead of my arm and I feel like we made some progress. Maybe sometimes you have to get worse to get better? Who knew!
