Kidani location request

We are very excited about our first Animal Kingdom Lodge stay. We have a 2 bedroom booked at Kidani for a week in July.
From what I've read it looks like many people request "close to Lobby"
I am thinking of asking for Sunset Savannah (giraffes are important to my crowd) and near Raffiki elevators.
Do I have it right that the Raffiki elevators bring you down near the pool? Would it be better to just say near pool?
Easy access to the pool would be a plus for us and it looks like that would put us about 1/2 way down the wing. We would trade a moderate walk to the Lobby for quicker pool access.
Anyone know the layout well enough to know if this request will be asking for what we want?
Always remembering of course, they are requests, not guarantees.

I would like to know this info also. Have reservations in October and have never stayed at AKV Kidani.

Yes Rafiki elevators will get you fairly near the pool, but the problem with that request is that rooms that overlook Pembe start right in that area too and thus if they honor the Rafiki request you could end up on Pembe with no giraffes. Close to lobby does not put you far from pool and that request automatically puts you on sunset savanna. A request that might be best for you is sunset savanna view in a room near area where the pool is.

If Sunset is important to you (and that is always my choice - greater animal variety plus you get zebras and giraffes), make Sunset your priority. The way you suggested sounds like it's your best shot.

Thanks for everyone's good advice. I called this morning and made my request "Sunset Savannah, near pool" I have about 80 days to keep my fingers crossed.

We are booked in a SV so any suggestions where we should ask to stay? I will be traveling with 4 and 5 yr. old DGNs. Also, has anyone had experience being upgraded to a SV?

If you are book on points the only way to get an upgrade is there is a reason for your room to be taken out for a service problem.

DVC does not do comp upgrades. If you want SV you need to book it.

I've been a DVC member for many years and I know how the points work. And I NEVER expect an upgrade. I've seen posts on here where people have been upgraded to savannah upon check-in, not due to being comped.

I have never seen a DVC points reservation upgraded unless there was a problem with the room they were booked in.

DVC simply does not do that. If they did everyone would book the lower point room and want an upgrade.

I have seen many people upgraded to savannah view but only when paying cash.

Some of the reports of "upgrades" may have been due to the guest getting a reclassified room. DVC reclassified some Savanna View rooms to Standard View because the rooms had partially obstructed or limited views of the savanna. Many CMs are confused about the booking categories and views at AKV so I could imagine there are some front desk CMs who saw the room location and told a guest "You have been upgraded!" when in fact they got a reclassified room.

You would need to have booked at savannah view then you could request which savannah and you would need to have the member you booked from put in the request.

I would bet that LisaS is correct.... "Many" people getting an upgrade to savannah view would upset those (like me) who paid for it (cash or otherwise). I understand a little pixie dusting here and there, but if I found out people left-and-right were getting for free the upgrade I paid big $$ for, yeah..I'd be peeved!

Anyways, thanks for the room request tips... We are headed there in just a couple of weeks...CANNOT wait!
