I have been stalking the DIS for a couple of months since we found out Alyssa will be receiving a wish from MAW. My name is Amy and I been with my husband Johnson for 18 years, married for 8. We are middle school sweethearts with two children, Chase 5 and Alyssa 2(wish child). I have been wanting to take the kids to Disney for the past 2 years but it kept being put off until the next year because of the cost. I went to Disney when I was 8 or 9 and remember riding Space Mountain and the Haunted Mansion. I loved it!!! I was so excited when we decided to plan a trip for 2012. But other things kept us from going this time.

In the fall of 2011, Alyssa started having some leg pain and running fevers. So we decided to take her to the pediatrician but was told it was just a virus. A month later the symptoms returned and we made another trip to the pediatrician who did blood work this time. It came back showing severe anemia and we were referred to NC Children's Hem/Onc Clinic the next day for more blood work and tests. A few days later Alyssa developed MRSA, and we were admitted to the hospital. After 7 days in the hospital with multiple IVs, Xrays, ultrasounds, PICC line, MRI and 2 bone marrow biopsies Alyssa was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in Oct 2011. She began treatment 2 days later and we were finally home after 14 days in the hospital. She is in remission now but we continue get treatments every 10 days which will go to once a month in June and continue until December 2013. She is such a trooper and feels great most of the time!!!

Our oncologist suggested we apply for MAW at one of our visits. The very next day I decided I would just inquire about it because I had felt a little guilty for signing her up when there were so many other children with far worse diseases. Within an hour MAW called me to find out more information and they sent the paperwork off to our oncologist to see if Alyssa would qualify. By lunch that day, MAW called back and said everything was completed and Alyssa qualifies. WOW! That was fast! We are now waiting to meet our wish granters Abby and Elizabeth on Monday. Alyssa loves pink, princesses, and minnie mouse so Disney is the obvious choice!

I was hoping to go to Disney the second week of November. I want Alyssa to experience the MVMCP and eat with Cinderella in the castle but have no other major plans. Can anyone suggest special things for a little girl at Disney? Hopefully Alyssa will be 3 by the time we go.

So I guess I need to explain the title of my thread. Alyssa LOVES pink! We have been asking her some questions so we can get info for her wish grantors when they come. When we ask who is her favorite princess she says PINK. When we ask her what is her favorite food she says PINK. So when the MAW grantors come to our house I will be surprised if she answers anything other than PINK! Her verbal skills are excellent and she talks in sentences so I don't know if she is trying to be funny or just get under my skin with her PINK comments.

Alyssa's wish granters came last night and brought her a princess bag full of goodies. She was so excited about her bubble wand, princess crown and wand, and princess stickers and book. The kids tore into the gift like Christmas and ran around the house playing with their new toys while DH and I answered questions and filled out paperwork.

We decided on dates of November 10-17. Alyssa said her favorite color was pink, of course, and her favorite foods were pizza, spaghetti, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets. It was so hard to pick a favorite princess but she decided to go with Cinderella. She wears a Cinderella dress to bed everynight but it was still a hard decision. For her wish she wanted to go see the princesses and Elmo and Abby Cadabby. Elmo and Abby play a big part of her treatment because we always have referred to her blood draws as getting Elmo juice and Abby Juice from her port.

We also asked about a meal at Cinderella's Royal Table and tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. The wish granters were so nice and told us they would put down anything we thought might make her trip special. They had already put down BBB for her one day which I was very excited about. Alyssa loves anything girly and getting her nails done and a princess dress would make her day!princess: I'm not sure how much hair she will have by November. She was diagnosed at age 2 just when she was starting to get a little bit of hair and now it is all completely gone. She wears big bows so no one will mistake her for a little boy, but I just can't wait to see how she will look with hair! You can see a little bit of blonde starting to grow back!

MAW also is giving us a going away party so we will have to start thinking about a location for that in the future. They did finally ask DS what characters he liked and he went with Scooby and Shaggy, Goofy, and Pirates. He was so excited during the whole process and bouncing off the walls. I am so happy he finally gets to go to Disney after having to put it off because of DD sickness.

Now we wait to get our final dates and decide if we want to extend our trip by 3 days and pay out-of-pocket. I just can't make up my mind if I should spend so much money for 3 extra days when the kids will probably be so tired from all excitement the week before. DH says we don't need to see all and do all on this trip so we when we plan another vacation, we will have new experiences. But I am a planner and I really love to see and do it ALL!!

I haven't looked into this yet. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am so excited about this trip that I printed Disney calendars for each month and the kids started marking off the days last night with Princess and Cars stickers! We started with the day the wish granters came to our house. My son said, "Do we have to put stickers on ALL of those days?" I know I should probably wait until closer to start the countdown but I just couldn't.

I'm following along too! I'm so amazed at what you have planned already! We leave in 3 weeks and I feel like there is still so much to plan for us!

Can't wait to hear about all of your plans!

Thanks! I am obsessed with this site, it has so much useful info! It's also nice to have one place to keep all of your plans to look back on. Hope you have fun on your trip and can't wait to read all about it!!!

Joining along... Looking forward to seeing all that you plan and do. We did BBB and CRT back to back and it was kind of a lot.. I don't know that I would make that same decision again. They both were magical experiences and I think CRT was more fun for me than my daughter or my mom. ;) (I get a little start struck when I see Belle).

I think we may skip BBB and just do CRT. Alyssa is just getting some hair so she won't have enough to get her hair done by the time we go anyway. My son wants to do Pirates League so we may let them both do the pirates. I agree with the time issue. I don't want to eat up our whole day at MK. Thanks for the info!

I am so excited I just want to scream, but I am at work and can't! I just got a call from Elizabeth, our wish granter, and we are confirmed at GKTW for November 10 - 16th.:cheer2:

We have decided to extend our trip by 2 days and I'm thinking about staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort in a pirate room. pirate:

Only a couple of weeks before we book ADRs! I'm a little nervous about this process. Anyone have any tips?

YAHOO for DATES!!!!

So excited that Alyssa's trip is becoming a reality! :cloud9:

And thank you so much for sharing the photo-journal project with us. The photographer captured some fantastic moments.

Sorry, but I am no help on making ADR's (as I only made one for our whole trip!), so I will leave that to someone more knowledgeable to fill you in on.

Alyssa started back to daycare today! She was so excited to see her friends but did not want mommy to leave. She cried a little when I walked out but was over it 30 seconds later when I peeped in the window. Her teacher sent me a picture later and she was sitting at the "girls" table eating breakfast again! I'm just praying she doesn't get sick. A sign on the door read "This room has been exposed to the strep virus and pink eye." Not good.:worried:

Here is Alyssa with her big brother Chase on her 1st day back.
