Sensitive to disabled son's photos/video on the internet...

What should I do when someone posts pics/video or links to such in their trip report which have my disabled son in them when I requested that they not do so - after they asked permission?

Yu can do two things pm the moderator in that forum and tell them what is going on and ask for help. This way may be they could contact the diser and ask them to remove it.

Two is click the red triangle and report the post for doing what you said it get the moderator attention to.


If you didn't give them permission to use them then they shouldn't since they asked you they should respect your what you want.

is the video of your son only or is he in the background of someone else's children? if he is in background, not sure what you can do. most schools and daycares have rules about this, so check there if applies.

if you are in a public place and they are not making money off of them I don't think you can do much about it.

You are allowed to take as many pictures of someone as you want if it is a public place and not in a place where privacy is implied like a bathroom stall or dressing room.


Once it is out on the internet it is out there and pulling it won't make it go away, it is there.

Not necessarily true, even in a public place a person still has privacy rights to their own image.

Once it's on the net it never goes away, but I don't blame the OP for trying to do sone damage control.

If the other person took the pictures or has owns them from purchasing a photo pass or something, they do have the right to post them (unfortunately). If they chose to use them, there may be little you can do.
If there are other people in the picture, that may be why they posted. Maybe they would be willing to crop your child out or edit the picture so your child is out of focus/pixilated.
So, if you have not Contacted the person since you found out the pictures were in the trip report, I would do that. Let them know that you looked at the trip report and were surprised and disappointed to find the pictures of your child there. I would ask again if they could remove the picture or edit so your child's face doesn't show. It's possible that they removed some where your child was the main subject, but were focused on the other things in some of the pictures and didn't really realize your child was in it too.

If YOU posted the pictures on the Internet and the other person is posting them in their trip report by linking them, you can do several things to remove the pictures.
1) remove them entirely from where you posted them.
2) check if the place you posted them has any privacy settings that you can use so only people you authorize can see them.

Doing those things would cause broken links to come up in the person's trip report where the pictures had come up. But, as someone else posted, once something has been on the Internet, it's very hard to remove it entirely.

I did report the post and stated in my comments what my concerns were as well as communicating with the OP of the trip report.

The video has my son's image edited out so I'm very please that this is resolved!

Just to clarify points brought up, this was video that I did not take or post myself. It was taken by the husband of the trip report OP and my son, though not the focus of the video, was visible behind the OP during most of the clip.

As far as something being on the internet forever...that may be true. Not sure how all of that works. It seems to have something to do with how long something is online and therefore cached by google and other bots. I think if something is edited, etc. early enough, it is gone for the most part.

Betty, sadly you are correct! It's still posted on YouTube to be shared publicly, not just for family and friends. This person in pulic forums appears to communicate in a sensitive fashion and gives assurances that she'll remove images of my son but in private communications she's clearly not interested in our concerns for privacy and is only removing when forced to do so by moderators, etc. Shameless.

Unfortunately there are people who have no genuine respect for other people's privacy. This is made worse when they seem to have the attitude that autistic persons shouldn't be on a cruise ship.
