Do the beds split on the Dream and Fantasy?

It doesn't look like the beds on the Dream and the Fantasy split? Can they split the queen into 2 beds like on the Magic and Wonder? :confused3

I have to believe that DCL did massive amounts of research before deciding to do this, but I have to wonder if they might get enough complaints to make them reconsider retrofitting some cabins to have the splitting beds.

I'd love to cruise with my sister and her kids, but we're a bit too old for a slumber party. Likewise, her kids are too old to share a bed as well. I'm also not willing to pay either a single supplement or pay the adult rate for both of the kids (one in each cabin so they'd each count as the second adult) just so we can have another cabin with another bed.

Same thing with one of my girlfriends. It's ridiculous that one of us would be in a queen size bed while the other is on a fold-out couch.

It takes a little more planning on the the type of room you are going to book on the new ships without the twin bed option. I like the extra space for putting luggage under the bed, but it would have been nice to still have the twin bed option.

I think DCL ABSOLUTELY knew what they were doing....this probably forces a lot of people to pay for two rooms instead of one.
They make more $$$$$$$$$$ that way.

My two (adult female) friends and I shared a room for a wedding on Castaway Cay. One gal had to sleep in the upper bunk, because we couldn't split the queen into twins. :sad2:

Or they lose money.... I'm guessing there's at least a few cruisers who have decided to go with another cruise line instead of having to pay for two cabins just because they want separate beds. When DCL's cabins are usually at a premium price over other lines already, the savings of getting one cabin on another line versus two on Disney has to be huge.

Ah, well... there's still the Magic and Wonder for us bed-splitters. :rotfl: But I'd definitely have to look at another line if we decided to do a shorter cruise with the nephews.

For me...yes.....I'd sooner move to another cruise line than be forced to pay for two rooms....and on another line, two rooms are still usually less than DCL's.
But here we have so many die-hard DCL fans, not many are willing to even think about going on another line.

How are they losing money? The Dream has been sailing nearly full, hasn't it? The Fantasy is heavily booked if not sold out. All of this while having outrageously high prices. I guarantee you they have not lost one nickel over beds that don't split.

Besides, what is the big deal? Adult sisters can share a queen size bed. An adult mother and daughter can, I know I have seen it happen.

I'm not understanding the fuss? Can't 2 people easily fit into a queen size bed? If you're comfortable sharing a room, the bed should be big enough for 2!

From the perspective of a married couple, the beds that split are a PITA. There is always a 'crack' in the middle and it's easy to accidentally roll into it in the middle of the night. This is worse on some ships than others.

My guess is that Disney got a lot of complaints about this. Since families with 2 adults + children are their bread and butter, I'm guessing they went with the one bed to address those complaints. Besides, from a furnishing perspective, I suspect it's cheaper to purchase 1 big bed than 2 small beds. And they don't have to have 2 sets of bedding for every room.

Here's the problem people.... we are Pooh sized people and yes... we can fit in a queen size bed but if we want to spread out it becomes more difficult! I don't think all of the beds should split, but offer it as an option, just like some of the rooms have tubs and some don't. It is an option they should offer as they did originally. I am not married so I travel with friends, my sister and my mother. No matter... I will make it work as I am not going to let it keep me from cruising with DCL! :goodvibes

And not all unrelated adults WANT to share a bed! Who cares if you can fit?

I am one who think Disney should have had some cabins with split bed features.
They've also made it difficult for suite guests who don't want to share a bed. Someone gets the couch and at suite prices that should not happen.

Absolutely! AGREE!:thumbsup2

Last year I shared a bed with a good friend on the Dream. If we had had a choice we would have done otherwise. King size would be okay, but queen size beds are really small - even for more piglet than pooh sized girls. Can you split every queen size bed on the Magic? We are thinking about the Med in 2013. Would be great to see Mickey after a short flight from Berlin, Germany to Spain. :cheer2:

Yes, on the Magic and the Wonder, the queen bed splits into twins.

Actually, nearly all of the Fantasy sail dates in June are offering GTY cabins in an attempt to fill the ship. There's even a date in August with GTY cabins and that cruise's paid-in-full date hasn't even passed yet.

Coincidentally, the Fantasy runs 7 day cruise which the Magic and Wonder also do. The Dream is the only choice for the 3-4 day shorter cruises to the Bahamas. I'm guessing a lot of people also booked the Dream so they could try out the "new" DCL ship class. Now that people have tried it, it's not translating to the same number of bookings on the Fantasy now that it has launched.

Like I said earlier, regardless of what bookings look like now, I'll be interested to see what happens in the more long-term. They may decide to keep it, they may decide to offer split beds. Who knows?

It's not a matter of "can." Why should anyone have to do this if they don't want to? Other cruise lines allow for split beds. In this instance, DCL is charging a premium price for a lesser product with less choice.

I guess it depends on the couple. DH and I have sailed DCL several times and never even noticed the joint.

Thank you! Great news for me!

I think Disney is just following the others. Last January I stayed at a hotel in London: 6 rooms with twin beds out of a total of 400. It becames more and more difficult to find twin bedded rooms in german or europeen cities. Who will stop this?pirate:
