AGLET – We're Gonna Tour The World Together! Updated 11/9!!!

That Easter cake looks amazing!!! What a great idea!!!

Okay, if I tell my kids about Peeps jousting, I am almost certain they would commandeer the microwave...very tempted to try it!

I am cracking up over the end of the trail visit! I always seem to get in the way of CMs and such.

 I believed you until you said the Whiskers Clan! They're ridiculously addicting, aren't they??? Oh no, I haven't seen any sad ones! Only nerve-wracking moments with those babies meandering off!

I had typed up this nice little response to you yesterday afternoon but when I clicked "submit" I got the message that The DIS was down for server migration! I was so mad at the time but if this helps with the slowness we've all been experiencing than I'm OK with it!

Ok so when Meerkat Manor first started, you followed along this little baby they called Flower. They documented her whole "growing up" story to her ascent to matriarch of the Whiskers Clan. Then she got bit by a snake and died. It was awful...SO sad. In reading about the show on Wikipedia though...I'm guessing that maybe for the more current episodes, the really sad parts are edited out because a lot of people complained that the film crew wasn't intervening to help the meerkats when they were in danger. The crew said they are just there to document, they are not to intervene with nature, which I understand. But I found out that not only have they changed the narrator from the UK version (Bill Nighy to Sean Astin/Stockard Channing) for the US version...they also changed some of the meerkats names when they brought it over here. So my guess is that either you have just gotten really lucky to not see any of the sad stuff...or they edited it out because us "Amurricuns" can't handle it.

My reply got eaten by the DIS server changing too! I wish they would give a little notice before doing that!

I really like your cake! What flavor was it?

The animal trails are probably my favorite part of Animal Kingdom. They're just so relaxing and different from everything in the other parks! It's nice to have lots of trees everywhere and not just sun + pavement (though I do think they should add hedgehogs to the exhibits. It'd be an incredibly boring exhibit, but they could hook up an infrared camera or something. I just really like hedgehogs, haha. And they're from Africa so totally relevant ;) ).

I love nature shows! Only it's always so depressing when they won't ~interfere with nature. Like in Planet Earth when the lost baby penguins freeze? Or the lost baby elephant can't find his mother? So... now I don't watch as many nature shows! We stick with space shows - fewer chances that adorable baby animals will die on those. (they changed where all the smilies were!! Who uses fireman hat smilie (or the hourglass?) more than all the sarcastic winky faces?!?). :rolleyes1

Thanks!!! Hahaha you guys should definitely give it a try! It's really fun!

I always get in the way of anyone doing anything! :rotfl:

I'm hoping the server speeds up a bit now! :thumbsup2

Awwwww no I missed that! I think we were watching season 3 or so! It has to be hard for the film crew to not intervene, but I do understand why they don't. It wouldn't exactly be a realistic documentary with people reaching in and helping the animals out with every danger!

Thanks!!! It was chocolate with chocolate icing - but really it can be any flavor! Carrot might be cute for Easter too!

I'd totally visit the hedgehog exhibit! I think that'd be a really cute one! :thumbsup2

Nature shows really can be depressing! I don't watch too many of them either, I start yelling at the cameramen to help out the animals (but again, I do get why they really can't).

Hahahaha they did all rotate! I'm like, I totally forgot half of these existed!. And I guess, since it's here, :firefight:hourglass.

:rotfl:

We hadn't gone into Animal Kingdom with much of a plan, but there was one thing that we were pretty interested in doing. I had been told over and over again that it was pretty much the greatest, and that we HAD to go see it.

Well, okay then...

To Festival of the Lion King we went!

As we followed the path to Camp Minnie-Mickey, we noticed that the park was getting increasingly packed. Festival of the Lion King was still around 10 minutes before showtime, so we had no trouble going in and finding seats in what turned out to be the Elephant section.

While we sat and waited, I consulted my phone, and yes, we had chosen wrong again for a low-crowds park for the day. Ironically, again today Hollywood Studios seemed to be the least-crowded park, and we decided that if AK was still packed when we left the show, we would hop over to HS for a bit.

The crowdwarmers came out a few moments before the show was set to begin, teaching everyone the "clap clap, over the shoulder, over the shoulder, I forget the rest" dance. :dancer:

(What? I've never had the opportunity to use that guy before!)

And then the show began!

Learning how to sound like an elephant. I thought it would be less squeaky.

Our section's mascot.

It was at this point, around 2 minutes into the show, that I knew you guys were all correct. Seriously, this show was already awesome - and it had barely begun...

Tumbler monkeys!

I can't even fathom doing the stunts they were doing.

Fire dancer:

An attempt at taking a picture during "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?"

We LOVED the show - I think I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time. The entire production was so well-done, the costumes were beautiful, it was just such a "Disney" show, if that makes any sense. Thank you for all of your fabulous recommendations...:disrocks:!

(If there's anyone that hasn't seen Festival of the Lion King, seriously, YOU. NEED. TO. Finding Nemo is cool, but I think FOTLK is around a kabillion times better.)

We listened Timon and GOT OUT, and started walking back towards the central Tree of Life hub, immediately noticing that, yes, it had gotten exponentially more crowded in the last half-hour.

"Is there anything else here that you wanted to do?" Wingnut asked me. The only other thing I could think of was the Pangani Trail, but that would be all the way on the other side of the park.

"Nah. You?"

"Nope."

We turned and headed back towards the Oasis, following the signs to exit the park. Yes, I know this maybe wasn't the best chance we could have given Animal Kingdom, but we did go! And we did really enjoy our time there, brief as it was (it was a little after 11 at this point).

Would we go to AK again in the future? Probably. (But, spoiler alert, we didn't return again during our trip )

We knew we had made the right decision to leave as we passed the steady stream of people entering the park. Time to move along!

We waited at the bus stop for only a few minutes before our air-conditioned chariot to Hollywood Studios appeared (gotta love those park-to-park busses! :thumbsup2)

Our feet. On a bus.

(I don't take actual TR notes while at Disney, I rely on my pictures to piece together our tale. Therefore I'll sometimes take pictures like our feet on a bus to remind me that, yes, we were on a bus.)

(It makes sense to me. :thumbsup2)

Great update! I LOVE the FOTLK show! You got some decent pics.

For some reason my dad isn't crazy about it, he says it is a good show but he doesn't feel the need to see it every trip, when we went in May he waited with us in the line and when we got to our seats he went outside :confused3

I don't blame you for leaving when it was so crowded but now you have to make sure you still give AK another chance on your next trip since it was still only a few hours you were there... ;)

Yayyyyy I'm so glad you liked FOTLK! I agree, Nemo is good and Lion King is a kabilion times better. Great snaps of the show!
My last TR I lost my notes when I updated my phone, I also had to rely on my photos to piece together the puzzle.

So glad you enjoyed Lion King. It is a wonderful show with some amazing performers. Even if Animal Kingdom isn't your favorite place, it's nice that it can have some highlights for you. :)

Of course, now that you have me thinking of Animal Kingdom, I am suddenly imagining I am smelling the wonderful aroma of Flame Tree. :) A big 'wow' for the power of suggestion!

What???? You left already????? :faint:

You must go back. I am glad you enjoyed the two things you did do. I haven't seen FOTLK since Jan 2008 - can you believe it??????? I am SO going back on my June trip. I actually want my nephews to see both shows.

Too bad you didn't do the other trail. It's pretty cool!

Oh well - I am so glad you gave it a try again!

it figures that on the day you guys were trying to give AK another shot, you had not only left your park ticket at the hotel, but then you pick the most crowded day to go! Some day, you will see it like I always see it...which is basically empty! I wish they would bring back PM EMH...I know why they don't (animals go inside when it gets dark so there aren't many attractions open) but it was SO nice when we got to do...we walked onto EE 5 times in a row and the walkways are EMPTY. It was amazing!

Glad you at least enjoyed the time you had there! :thumbsup2

Ok... so I am probably amongst the minority who has not seen FOTLK. It is that awesome? Really?? Perhaps I will have to rectify that next month. Are there any tips in terms of where to sit? I know nothing about this show...

I find that my photos help me piece together the details of my trip too. :upsidedow

I had chills when we went to see FOTLK because it was so awesome, and I almost had chills just looking at pictures. :rotfl: So glad you enjoyed it!

I would have wanted to leave if it was that crowded, too. I hope you go back to Animal Kingdom on a later trip -- it is such a fun park, in my opinion. I like to pretend I am actually in Asia and Africa when I am there. :lmao:

Glad you gave Animal Kingdom a chance! I agree that FOTLK is really awesome, but I still think I like Nemo a teeny bit more.

I'm so so glad that we went to see Festival of the Lion King and that you enjoyed it. The singers are amazing. The Tumble Monkey are awesome. The stilt walkers are fantastic. I love the whole gosh darn thing!

1) That....cake....looks....AWESOME! And right up my alley. Obnoxious amounts of sweets are my specialty!

2) Peep jousting....why have I never done that before?! :sad2:

FoTLK is something that I tend to skip over too, but when did it in November, I was so happy that I decided to go see it again.

Isn't FOTLK the BEST! :lovestruc It took us so long to finally go see it, and now that we finally did, we're both so in love with it! :cool1:

Thanks!!! It really was an awesome show!!

That's funny that your dad waited in line for the show with you, but then didn't watch it! I guess he really doesn't care for it then!

We definitely will give it another shot, but not when we're battling crowds to do so!

So was I!!! It definitely lived up to the hype!!

I never even bother taking notes! I probably should though! :rotfl:

Hahaha anyone mentioning MK has that effect on me with the funnel cake! :cloud9:

Hey, hey, hey. We did THREE things. (Safari, trail, show).

I know, it was hardly a marathon day at AK, but it was just getting oppressive! You guys definitely should go to both shows, I bet your nephews would love it!

Hahaha luck wasn't exactly on our side that morning! But we did still have a great time!

PM EMH at AK does sound really cool, but it's probably difficult to coordinate the lights having to be on with the animals' schedules.

YES!!! It really is that awesome!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

The theater is essentially a "theater in the round" (except that it's square...) so there isn't too bad a place to sit. We had a great view in the Elephant section (directly across from when you're walking in).

Hahaha I'm completely reliant on our pictures!

I kept singing the songs to myself while writing that update! It really is a wonderful show, isn't it?

You really can pretend you're in another place in that park! It's SO immersive in the Africa and Asia sections! I wish we had had more quiet time there!

Glad you gave Animal Kingdom a chance! I agree that FOTLK is really awesome, but I still think I like Nemo a teeny bit more.

Nemo is pretty good (how can I stop loving the "go with the flooooooooowwwwww" song??)!! Does it count for anything if I liked Finding Nemo better than the Lion King movie?

Soooooooooooo glad you liked FOTLK!! :woohoo:

Thanks!!! So was I!!!

Hahaha thank you!!! It definitely was an insane amount of wonderful, wonderful chocolate!

You definitely should give it a try!! You'll never have so much fun staring at a microwave!! :rotfl:

Isn't FOTLK the BEST! :lovestruc It took us so long to finally go see it, and now that we finally did, we're both so in love with it! :cool1:

It really really really is!!! I wish I had seen it earlier, but I'm so glad we finally did!

They sort of guide you to an area, from what we've experienced. You can see from every side just fine, and there aren't that many rows, so even on the back row (which we kind of like so we can have backs), you are still not far away from the action.

You probably are in the minority. Maybe you could youtube it and see if you think it's something you'd enjoy. Our girls love watching the tumble monkeys and seeing Timon and Pumbaa and Simba. Hope you like it!
