OBCs and Disney Reward Dollars

With a little creativity we will probably have 45-600 combined OBC and Disney Reward Dollars (from Disney Visa). Would seem to make sense to use these in place of cash where possible. Can we use both OBC and Disney Reward dollars for the following?"

1) Tips
2) Excursions

If not .. which categories of credits can be used with which type of expenses?

I assume we could use either for souvenirs on board, drinks, etc
Thank you

You would apply the Reward Dollars to your Onboard account and then they can be used for anything you charge to your room. Excursions are automatically charged to your room. Tips may be put on your onboard account as well (on the Magic they do it automatically, the other ships you have to go to Guest Services to do it). So, yes, you can use your rewards for both tips and excursions. They would use your OBC first, then any rewards or gift cards you put on your account, then they would bill the extra to whichever option (cc or cash) to settle your account.

You can use both for all expenses on the ship. Your OBC will automatically be deducted from your charges first. You may want to go mid cruise to give them your disney dollars, because they will auto charge your credit card at certain dollar amounts due during the cruise. It is just less hassle if they get the disney dollars before the last day.

We use our rewards dollars on our cruises. You just got to the front desk and they apply your rewards card to your OBC. Don't worry, you won't have any trouble spending it all.

Yes, just go to GS and apply the reward dollars to your account. DCL will "spend" your OBC first (non-refundable), then any "funny money" like Visa reward dollars or gift cards, and will only bill your credit card or use your cash after these are gone.

LOL LOL about the "funny money"

Thanks for the replies .. basically rewards and OBC as good as cash, great news

Also...if you anticipate your OBC and rewards/gift cards still won't cover your expenses (excursions and photo packages can really drive up that amount), BEFORE the cruise buy and OBC for yourself (through your TA if you used one) to cover the rest of expected expenses. This amount will qualify for your 0% interest catagory on the Disney Visa. If you were to just charge any balance at the end of the cruise, it falls into the purchases catagory and does not get the 0% interest.

I always compute Palo fees, tips, DCL excursions, a daily specialty coffee and a drink of the day and maybe one game of Bingo because I know I'm going to spend at least that much.

We used our Disney Reward Dollars on our Dream cruise in July and it was very easy. I went to GS I think the second day and they applied it to our account. Does anyone know how to use the Visa to pay for monthly home bills? I've read that some people use it to pay for their mortgage and utility bills, I don't think mine take credit cards for payments. Thanks for your help!

Cheryl, you'll have to check with the various companies. A lot of times, utility companies and mortgage companies won't take credit cards, or they will, with an extra convenience fee. I'm not able to pay any of my bills on my credit card without a convenience fee, and after doing the math, it wasn't worth it for me. But other companies may differ.

I do pay my cable bill and my cell phone bill on my Disney Visa, which helps drive up the points. I've become very good at budgeting, so I put EVERYTHING on rewards credit cards, and I pay them off monthly. I recommend this to anyone who is confident in their ability to not overspend. The rewards really do add up!

Do you request the rewards to be placed on a rewards card or can they access the rewards directly from your Visa card?

You MUST transfer your reward dollars to a Disney Rewards Card. You can do it online at Chase or you can do it over the phone. You can't use your Reward Dollars directly from the Visa Credit Card.

Also note, make sure you give yourself enough time to receive the Rewards Card once ordered. It takes about 10 days to get. Order it at least 2 or 3 weeks before your cruise so you have it time.
