A few Southwest questions

Hi!
We are thinking about flying into Orlando from Pittsburgh for our early June trip, and I have a few questions about Southwest. First, does the "wanna get away" fare ever come back after being listed "unavailable"? There is a connecting flight that has a wanna get away fare, but the non-stop flights are only available in the more expensive categories. Second, if we go with a connecting flight, how does the 24 hour ahead of time check in work? Do you check in twice and get two different boarding positions or just check in for the first flight?

Thank you for any help!!

You will get both boarding passes for your initial fight and connecting flight when you check in in PGH.

I don't know if you're local to PGH but if you fly from another city (we can as we live about 2 hours from both PGH and Columbus, Ohio) consider Charleston WV. We found DIRECT flights out of Charleston to MCO for $180 (all fees) for our trip. Flying out of Charleston instead of PGH or CMH did add 1/2 hour driving BUT the flights are only 2 hours instead of 2:30 so we made up for it that way and also DIRECT.

The 'wanna get away' fares might come back, but I wouldn't count on it. They go away simply because there are only so many seats available at that price..once they are gone, they're gone. That's why it's so important to book as soon as you see them.

And as you've already been told...you check in just once, even if you have connecting flights.

Are you finding this on southwest? When I tried it for Sept, it told me this was only available on airtran...so I followed the path to airtran and they said it was not available LOL..hmmmmmmmmmmm wonder if they are not going to run that route anymore

AirTran service will discontinue for Charleston, WV effective Sun, June 03, 2012. AirTran has cancelled service from many small cities.

Have you checked flights from PIT to Tampa. I see for the month of June they have flights as low as $114 one way. Tampa is on 1hour and 15 minutes from Disney. Where as MCO is 30 minutes from Disney so it only take 40 extra minutes to drive from Tampa to disney. The tampa airport is so easy to get around and is not busy like MCO is. In Feb we turned in the rental car, checked our bags in and were through security in 17 minutes from the time we got the receipt for the rental car.

Our "wanna get away" fare was unavailable for weeks after we booked. When i happened to look at it the other day it was back (as were many other flights for that day). Of course the fare is much higher though.

I wanted to respond to this because I saw a fare that was listed as unavailable reappear yesterday-it was 6.00 higher than when it was first listed. So it might be worth it to check your flights again! :)
