Any recent MR cruisers can answer some questions?

I believe the itinerary says we arrive back in LA at 9:00 a.m. but was curious when you were able to get off the boat. I didn't know if it was possible to get off any earlier. I will be flying standby and was trying to get an idea what time I could possibly get to the LAX airport.

Also, if any of you stayed at a hotel near the port, was there any grocery/liquor stores nearby?

Thanks!
Lynn

On our MR cruise last month, we pulled out of the parking lot at 9:45. If you are carrying off all your own luggage, you could possibly be off just a bit earlier.

Got off the Wonder on Sunday.

We had late seating, so we had the 8:15 breakfast. They announced before we went down to eat that those that were carrying off their bags could get off, so that was before about 8:05.

By the time we were in the restaurant, they had already called 2-3 tags. As we were walking out, they called our tag (red Mickey). We hit the potty and were walking off the ship by 9:35. By the time we got a luggage porter and the van loaded, we were driving out of the parking lot at 10:02.

However, I did want to state that last year, Feb '11, they had issues. We arrived late (we left Cabo late, even left passengers there!) and we had rough seas. There was also some sort of issue getting cleared by customs. We had early seating for breakfast, but I swear, we sat around waiting a LONG time to get off the ship, at least it felt like it.

We just got off the Wonder today. The arrival time in LA was set for 7:30 am but we had pretty rough seas yesterday and didn't arrived until 8:30 am. I think they finally cleared the ship (customs) and started allowing people off about 8:50 (we had just started breakfast at 8:30 and were still eating when they announced it). Our luggage tag wasn't called until about 9:40 am (and there were still quite a few people on board when we left).

If you need to be in the first group off the ship, make sure you let them know that and also plan to carry your luggage off yourselves (since that is the first group to leave). But also be prepared for an unexpected delay.

Let me add that the airport in LA is horrible. Thank goodness we had 4 hours before our flight or we might have not made it. It was 1 hour in line to drop off luggage and another hour for security. It was the worst airport experience I have ever had and I have traveled a lot.
