Anybody ever BYOB of liquor to dinner?

I just read this under Planning Tools for DCL here on the DISboard:

Disney Cruise Line - Bringing Alcohol aboard the ship

Alcohol is permitted on board. Any fragile items (including bottles of alcohol) must be brought aboard in a carry-on bag not to exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage. Guests can have a bottle of their own champagne, wine or liquor that has been brought onboard opened and served by a Wine Steward. There will be a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

So, does that mean I can buy a bottle of good Tequila, bring it on board in a carry on, bring it to dinner and our waiter will serve it to us for just a $20 corkage fee? And would they keep it for me if we don't finish it in one sitting?

I knew you could do this with wine, but it never occurred to me that we could bring a bottle of booze. Because as they say, wine is fine but liquor is quicker!

I hope this is true. It will make our 4/22 Mexican Riviera cruise even more fun, if only to see the looks on others faces!

Yes - my parents did, when I cruised with them during their 25th anniversary. They brought a bottle of champagne they had bought in France, and the waiters happily uncorked and poured the wine for them. To my knowledge, there was no corking fee, but that may have been in honor of the occasion.

I think it's pretty routine for people to bring their own bottles of wine to dinner, but I can't recall ever seeing anyone bring an entire bottle of liquor. Why not make yourself a cocktail in your stateroom and carry it with you to dinner? You can get a glass from any bar or have your room steward bring you one. You'll save on the corkage fee that way.

We took a bottle of pomagranite vodka and a box of wine and every morning filled up a mug with oj and then got some sprite from deck 9 and made cocktails and got empty wine glasses from the nightclub or a coffee up from deck 9 and took a glass of wine to dinner every night (no corkage fee). Sooooo much cheaper than buying drinks on board

You certainly can ask them if they would care to have some. We've been at tables that others have offered to share their wine with us. We don't drink, so we've always said no, but I think that it was a nice gesture.

Yes, if you bring your own bottle and pay the corkage fee, your server will bring as many glasses as you need. If there is any wine left over, they'll store it for you until the next dinner.

We always end up at our own table as there are at least six of us, so it's never come up.

Your cabin steward will also bring you a bucket of ice and wine glasses if you ask. We always bring our own, then open it in our cabin and put the bottle on ice. He/she will keep re-icing it until it is gone

YUP! Just be sure to put it in your carry on and not your checked luggage.

Oh, we will be doing that for sure. This was more about the novelty of pouring up icy shots of Patron Anejo at dinner. Pretty sure that would raise some eyebrows. It's how we do.

You certainly can bring your bottle of Patron to the dining room...you may or may not be charged the "corking fee" even if you open the bottle yourself. It is really a service charge and seems to be hit or miss if they charge it. Servers are supposed to charge the corking fee but sometimes they do not...I believe for fear of a reduced tip.

Not sure why you would think it would raise eyebrows about the Patron, though....I have seen it for sale from $62 to $99 per bottle (online)...many spend more than that for a good bottle of wine.

Now what raised some eyebrows a few weeks ago was when the Cake Boss (from the Food Network show) was in Palo and ordered a few $1700 shots of scotch (I think it was Scotch).

You know I was thinking about bringing a bottle of blue label or an aged middleton for my fiancé and the guys to enjoy. But I wondered if they could only enjoy it in our room or pour a glass and go somewhere else with it. I just don't see the value in paying 1/3 of the bottle cost in a 2oz pour. I'd rather just bring the entire bottle and let them enjoy it.

We were just on the MR Wonder and would bring a very full glass of wine to dinner each night. I would also make a bay breeze to bring up to the pool in our travel mugs. I would ask for cranberry / pineapple at breakfast in a to go cup or order and pour into my travel cup at the table before we left. You can not find cranberry or pinapple at buffet. You can ask room service for wine glasses ( no charge ) or any bar for 2 empty glasses to go !

Has anyone actually paid the corkage fee? I keep hearing stories about it being waived.
