Ap shows and formal dining

So we are going on our first ever cruise on May 12 on the Fantasy. We are not planning on attending formal or semi-formal night. We just do not want to have to spend money to buy cloths to dress up on these nights however now that there are two diffrent shows in AP the (crush show and animation show)I am worried that we will miss one of them. Are one of these shows going to be on one of these nights? any thoughts on what to do?

My advice: don't skip your dining just because of suggested dress. You will see lots of interpretations of formal and semi-formal. Some will have full-on gowns and tuxedos; while others will have more of 'regular' dress up. You will not be out of place with a regular dress or nice outfit.

Formal (and semi-formal) don't necessarily mean ball gowns and tuxes. You can wear what some call "Sunday best". DCL is just trying to be a little fancier on occasion.

I'm not sure how the schedule runs for the AP shows, but I don't think I'd miss them (at least the first time I'm on the Fantasy).

I planned on bringing slacks and a button up shirt but hate wearing a tie. My DW will bring something similar. Would these be ok for both semi formal and formal night? what about kids My DD (6) will bring a princess dress. but DS (2) will probably not have dress cloths.

Do not skip the dining rooms because you don't want to buy clothes. You will see very few people go all the way formal. This is the night for the best outfit you brought--think Sunday Best, or whatever. A pair of black pants with a dressy top is fine for a woman, if you can convince the guy to put on a tie, great. If not, live with it.

You will receive your dining assignment (rotation & table number) at checkin at the port.

The Navigator you get the first day will have an overview of the whole cruise...which shows are on what night. Then, then the daily Navigators will have the more detailed specifics with times, locations, etc. Your dining rotation & table number will be printed on your KTTWC and you will also have printed tickets in your stateroom.

We are actually sailing together. It is my understanding that formal night will be the first sea day (sunday) and semi formal will be on the second sea day (thursday). Somewhere in our meet thread is the different dining rotations, but it seems as if what ever restaurant you are in for Formal night you will also be in for semi formal and pirate night. Hope that helps.

If you would rather not go to the dining room for these nights, I would call and request one of the other two dining areas for those nights. It would be worth a shot.

Another voice saying "don't skip the main dining room because of dress standards". A button up shirt and slacks are fine, and women can get away with a nice pants and a blouse or any dress (even sundresses). I find Disney especially, tends to be pretty relaxed with dress as long as you appear to be trying somewhat. (ie: no basketball shorts and cut-off sleeves)

If we were your tablemates, we would much rather you wear whatever you feel most comfortable in and show up rather than skip dinner altogether. We would not judge you for your attire. The fact that you're concerned about it at all convinces me that whatever you end up choosing to wear will be more than respectable.

Personally, I usually wear only a dress shirt/tie for both formal and semi-formal nights. But I would also be comfortable wearning a nice long-sleeve shirt without a tie as well. I will only be bringing a jacket this time because we'll be going to Palo one night.

I wouldn't worry about the children either. The princess dress will easily qualify as formal wear and I can't think of any apparel that would be inappropriate on a two-year old even on formal night.

I jokingly told my wife I was gonna wear a tuxedo t-shirt on formal night. Turns out she didn't find that to be nearly as funny as I did.

Yes, please don't skip the dining room! I concur with the other posters; you will see all different kinds of dress. As long as you're not in cut-offs and a t-shirt, I doubt you'll feel out of place. My daughter and I enjoy dressing up, but we saw people nicely dressed in slacks, skirts, etc.

No worries Dude, what you've described will be just fine. As all other posters have said, as long as you're not in tshirt/shorts you'll fit right in with everyone else. Besides, the AP shows are not to be missed, the kids'll love it!!!

Agree with those who say don't miss out. "Church" attire or "resort" casual is great. I brought one "nicer" black dress and wore it with dressy jewelry for "formal" night and then again on semi-formal with less jewelry. Those nights have a great "feel" to them. Enjoy your cruise.

A daughter in a princess dress and a cute 2 year old boy...no one will notice what the parents are wearing!! Please don't miss out on anything because of attire...it's attitude that counts!

as long as your dress casual and something you think would be good, that's all that matters. I usually bring a dress for formal night, but that's because at home I won't wear one, and like to on cruises other wise I would be wearing pants and a nice shirt

Agree with above posters. Pants and shirt or dress are fine, and you will certainly see a range of style choices. You need to see the dinnershows in AP! AP on the Magic is great, but I can't wait to see the dinnershows in the AP on the Fantasy.

The dining rotation on the Maiden Voyage [western] was actually different than what was reported for the first pre western. It ended up being the same as the eastern, which for us was AERAERA [or ERAERAE or RAERAER]. They also switched pirate night from our CM to Cozumel at the last minute before the cruise. I talked to Fitz [HS] and he confirmed that the plan for now is to keep that rotation for all cruises, no matter the itinerary. He also said that the first three nights in AP would be the Crush show, the 4th night would be pirate night, and the last three nights woudl be the Animation show. They are doing the menus differently on the Fantasy due to the shows. The first three nights will be the rotation menus, followed by pirate menu, princesss menu, captain's gala and till we meet again/see you real soon menu. The formal night is still the first sea day and semiformal is on Thursday [you just don't have the same menu in all three MDRs on formal night].
