I have never partaken in the whole cruise photo thing before, but I am facinated by the book/albums you can get and not really sure how it all works. we are doing the fantasy 7 nighter for christmas, really going all out with dinner outfits and making it really special so would love a professional memento of the trip. Can anyine fill me in on the oprions and what we do?

I am not sure what you mean about the books/albums, but here is what i can share.

Each night there will be a couple of different photo ops. They will be listed in the Navigator and usually at Shutters you can see samples of the backdrops. They will take a bunch of photos of you and your family and then you can choose which ones you want to purchase (or get the whole CD with all the photos of the whole cruise).

THe cruise is the only time we have gotten family photos done for our Christmas cards (and to hang in the house) and I love them. We have opted to get the casual ones but did do the formal photos as well, we just liked the casual look better.

They will do ones in the atrium by the figurehead at the stairs, they also do ones in front of the Christmas Tree (there are times with and without characters), and a variety of different backdrops.

If you check out the Navigators, you should see some listings of the different scenes for each night.

You can also do a private photo session scheduled with Shutters (the photographers), but pay an extra sitting fee in addition to the photos you actually buy. I am not sure about the max# of people included in the sitting fee. In my case, there will be 8 of us for $85. And as I understood, this is only the Lifestyle portrait with the white background. We sail next week aboard the Dream, so I can tell you more after that - I will ask the photographer about the different options/possibilities for the private photo session.

If you don't want to pay for a private session, you can line up with everyone else wherever they are taking photos.

The advantage of the private session is that you can get several poses with different combination of family members without inconveniencing other families in the line.

If you do the "get in line" photos, they will spend maybe 3 minutes with each person or group (sometimes less if it is one person or a couple). You will get good photos, but they will be mindful of the people waiting. If you pay for a private shoot, they will spend 20-30 minutes with you doing all sorts of poses and more fun things, As above poster said, with 8 people wanting different small groups, etc. this could be quite worthwhile.

We did the Christmas Cruise 10 years ago (when the kids were really cute!) and had our cards done on the ship. I addressed them on the plane coming home and popped them in the mail at the airport. Couldn't have been easier!

Where can you sign up for these photo sessions prior to boarding? Sounds like a great idea!
