Age restrictions at Vibe

So I heard recently that if you just turned 18 and in high school or the summer between college. You are no longer allowed access to the vibe.

Can anyone confirm this as I will be cruising this summer, having just turned 18 in June (Still in high school), would really love to get in the Vibe

The Vibe is ages 14-17, inclusive. Once you are 18 you may join the 18-21 group. They meet at 10:00 pm the first night of the cruise (with a CM present) to decide what they would like to do during the cruise.

This enforcement of the printed ages was begun in Dec 2011.

A few months age Disney Cruise began enforcing firmly the policy of not allowing Vibe access to anyone 18 or older. It does not matter if you are still in high school -- if you are 18 or older, you can visit the adult areas, and can go to "18-20" age-group gatherings, but you cannot get into Vibe.

Eighteen year olds are no longer allowed in the teen club at all, whether they are still in high school or not. Reports are that this age limit is now strictly enforced.

I thought I read somewhere that something inappropriate happened between an 18 year old male and a younger teen girl and that's when DCL decided to be very strict about not letting any 18 years olds in Vibe.

I could be wrong though. Has anyone else heard anything like that?

If it's the situation that was reported here, the male was 23, not 18, and he was designated a staff member of a special needs cruising group and apparently had special needs himself, and the parents of a teen girl alleged that this young man engaged in inappropriate behavior regarding their daughter. But there is no indication that this incident was the reason for the new enforcement of the teen club's age restriction.

What kind of things do you get to do in the college group, since we don't really have anywhere located to ourselves?

When DS18 was in the group, there were about 9 or 10 in the group. He was the youngest, most of the others were 20 and one 21.

The general plan each night was the group would meet at 10:00 pm in Diversions (this was on the Wonder) and then they would attend as group the adult comedy show in Wavebands. Afterwards, sometimes, they remained in Wavebands for whatever the nightly entertainment was. Sometimes they went to the movie, or just went up on deck and played foosball or ping pong.

They also had lunch and breakfast meets, which they set up that first night. They would participate in some of the family events that were happening (the only one that comes to mind right now was one where they carved a race car out of potatoes and carrots and raced them). Mostly during the day they would meet up and hang out. Sometimes the CM working with the group would go into Vibe and get a game or two out for them to play in Diversions. She could also set up wii games for them in Diversions.


The group is a good or as bad as you want it to be. But that first meeting is important to get things started.

The upper limit is strictly enforced, no one over 17 allowed. At the lower end, I'm not sure. I think the crossover age between Edge and Vibe is 14. They can choose one or the other, but are not able to go back and forth. I would think 13 would need to use Edge.

I think for Vibe, they are issued a special card (similar to the KTTW card) that they use for ID to be in there.

On the new ships, the Vibe is locked and the teens are issued a special KTTW that allows them access.

I think they might allow a 14 year old to crossover between Vibe and Edge but probably not a 13 year old. All I am sure about is, no more 18 year olds.

The 18-21 group will have a session each night at 10 as well as a couple lunches. If you go on the first night and let the CM know that you want activities scheduled, they will do more; if no one shows up then the group is a total dud.

The answer to a 13 year old is that it seems to vary these days. Realize that the tween group was created primarily because parents objected to 13s being with the older teens. The 14-17s really don't want younger kids there! I'd suggest that you consider starting the kids in their age appropriate groups with "together time" at family venues (there are some really fun family activities!). If that doesn't work, then ask if she can move.

What cruise are you sailing? You can probably also meet up with others your age on the cruise meets threads.

I'm feel for you, as this summer will be the last time our daughter will be able to do the teen clubs. It may comfort you to know that there are a LOT who are in the same situation. You might meet a few on your cruise.

Here is my question. If you are the parent of a child in the Edge, is your card also coded to get up there? What happens if you need to get to your little darling for whatever reason? Do they have a desk or something that you can stop at for them to go get your child? What if you just want to be Paranoid Mom (not that I am admitting that I am Paranoid Mom, of course ) and want to peek on your little angel to make sure that she is alright?

I am sure that Disney has it set up, I just wonder how.

I don't know about the Edge, but teens that go to Vibe have special KTTW cards to get in. I'm sure kid's in the Edge or Vibe would be mortified if mommy was checking up on them in their club. If you need to get a hold of them you can call any of the kid's club's.

Well, I think that my daughter wouldn't be too upset if I checked up on her, but I wouldn't actually do it all the time. I was more so thinking about a situation where we were going to go swimming, and wanted to see if she wanted to come with us. I know that with the kids club, I can just go to the desk and they will get my son for me, or let us go get him. I was just wondering what the procedure was for Edge. If I just have to call the club and they will put her on the phone, that works for me.

I probably shouldn't ask in a thread about VIBE, but admittedly I wasn't thinking.

I understand why DCL made the change, but it is a shame that high schoolers who are eighteen are no longer allowed in the Vibe. There is a big, big difference between an eighteen-year-old who's still living at home and going to high school and a twenty-one-year old. I do understand, but I would be nervous about it as a parent. This is a tricky age for cruising DCL.
