Cape May or Chef Mickey's....

When going over our dining plans with the kids, the older two were upset we weren't going back to Chef Mickey's. I reserved Cape May instead. I explained they will still see characters (can anyone tell me exactly which ones besides Mickey & Minnie) and still get all the same breakfast options. I felt that Chef Mickey's, while great to go if you haven't ever been, was too loud & hectic for breakfast. So I wanted to try something else but still get them time with characters. We also reserved Tusker House for breakfast on our last day. But they are most disappointed with not going back to Chef Mickeys.....can anyone tell me about Cape May for breakfast and why you may or may not like that option over Chef Mickey's?

Thanks!!!!

We've done both Cape May and Chef Mickey many times, often both on same trip :)

My son (7.5) prefers Cape May for dinner (he has discovered crab legs and god help us all). Both he and my daughter (6.5) love Cape May breakfast.

Cape May's food quality (at all their meals) is (imo) in the top buffet quality at WDW. The breakfast character interaction is less chaotic than Chef Mickey (what isn't :lmao:), and as a result it seems a bit better, more time with kids. Plus the characters' beach attire is just fun & different from the usual. We're huge Beach Club Resort fans too, so it's a win win for us.

But as I said, I try to get a Chef Micky meal at some point on our trip because it seems to really tap into my son's zany side, and he's an absolute riot there. The food has made the Mr. and myself rather queasy at times; that's hit or miss. Chef M is more of a traditional event at this point.

If you're already done Chef M, I'd say try Cape May, especially if you happen to be in that area. I've never had a less than excellent meal there, breakfast or dinner. Or, you can always try do to both :)

Cape May is waaaaaaay better than Chef Mickeys. I didnt like Chef M at all actually. The food quality wasnt good at all, the temperature of the food was even questionable. I also didnt like the variety. Im also not a fan of the loud napkin waving either. Lol.

I found cape may so much more peaceful. Its a nice quiet buffet. Very pretty grounds too. So much nicer than Chef Mickeys. The food is a lot better, and the characters are pretty funny and come around at a decent pace. At Chef Mickeys I noticed we waited FOREVER to see all the characters. I'd go back to Cape May, but not Chef Mickeys.

For the record, the characters at Cape May are: Minnie, Goofy, & Donald. Since your going to Tusker as well, your kids will see a good mix of characters. Tusker has Daisy, Donald, Goofy, & Mickey. Daisy is a riot btw!

Totally agree with Goofyintoronto. It's really no comparison. Cape May has better food, a better atmosphere and much better character interaction. Plus the noise level is no where near the ear piercing sounds that come from Chef Mickey's.

We always stay at the Beach Club so for us it's a no brainer but even if we stayed at the Contemporary I would choose Cape May every time.

I have booked it for dinner the first night we arrive (August 26th) and each day for both breakfast and dinner since my wife and kids love it and it couldn't be more convenient for us staying there.

You have just made my day!! My daughter loves Daisy and was upset that we didn't get to see her/get her autograph during our last trip. I didn't know she would be at Tusker House.....I knew Donald, but didn't think Daisy made appearances much anymore since we didn't see her anywhere last trip. Other than in a parade, but my daughter wanted a picture with her. She will be VERY excited to hear she will probably get to meet Daisy this time!!! :yay:

We also loved Cape May for breakfast. We did it on our departure day, and it was a fabulous way to end our trip. We all (DH, DS9, DD7, and I) thought the food was wonderful and the setting was so laid-back and cheery. My kids aren't typically too into characters, but they loved hugging Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. The kids are asking to go back on our next trip.

We've been to CM also, but it has been about 6 years. We thought it was pretty good for dinner, but we'd definitely go back to Cape May over CM in a heartbeat.

Hey you and I are arriving on the same day! woohoo!

Daisy is hard to find thats for sure! She was so funny, I really hope you get the same 'Daisy' as we did. She made us laugh so hard!

Loved Cape May back in 2008, and plan on eating there again in Dec. The characters were great (back then it was Minnie, Goofy, Chip & Dale...so I am glad to see they are a little different now :)). The food was good too.

Cape May! Cape May! Cape May!

Chef Mickey's food quality has seriously gone downhill in the past few years.

Cape May would be my choice , quieter , sunnier atmosphere , beter food , better character interaction

I actually really didn't like either that much for breakfast, but if I had to pick between the two I'd go to Chef Mickey's. My favorite breakfast featuring some of the fab five is by far Tusker House.

I do like Cape May Cafe for dinner, but there's no characters then.

Hey you and I are arriving on the same day!

Sweet! We go the same week each year and for the most part it is pretty manageable!

Maybe I'll see you at the Cape May! Lord knows I will be there enough!!

Another vote for Cape May here... for all the same reasons mentioned above. Much calmer atmosphere, better food, better character interaction. It's a must do for all of our trips! Although, I did find that it's better to go earlier, rather than around 9 or 9:30. It does get more crowded...

Another vote for Cape May, I find the character interaction much much better there! I always feel like the characters are rushed at Chef Mickey. On our last trip the characters came by twice at Cape May and Goofy played around with DS6 for a good amount of time. It is also a lot less expensive at Cape May

I love Cape May Cafe and we are trying the Clam Bake this year instead of breakfast and opted ofr 1900 Park Fare!

Great place for kids and all the characters spend time with you!!

Cape May, hands down, for all the same reasons everyone else mentioned. Most importantly the food quality & atmosphere (MUCH better in my opinion at Cape May).

We are so excited to try Cape May for breakfast this year. We've been to Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace every year for the last three years but this will be our first time to Cape May!

Thanks for all the great info in this thread.

You are all making me want to cancel my Chef Mickey's ADR and replace it with Cape May! Since we're staying at BLT, though, that gives Chef Mickey's the edge with us.
