Buying a Southwest ticket with points???

Ok, so I have purchased tickets flying down to MCO with the Southwest Credit Card. I now have enough points to purchase tickets for the flight home. Our flights are in August/September.

There is a chance the flight price will go down, I know the process for the flights I paid for with the Credit Card, I will get a credit for a future flight. What about if the flight I purchase with points? If that goes down, will they credit me the points?

The points will be refunded to your account. You have to do the same change flight process.

Both sets of flights go down, so I get a credit for the flights down, apply the credit towards the flights back home, and purchase the balance with points, then any overage of points will then be applied to my account? Make sense??? Do you think this can be done?

Sorry, I'm not following you. You buy the tickets roundtrip? Or you are just buying one way?

I almost have enough points for 7 one way tickets home, so if I bought them now, and only had enough for 6 tickets, and I use cash for 1. They are not posted yet, however, I spoke with Chase and they said it is 30 days from your first purchase, which would bring me to April 14th, with a bill due date of May 5th or maybe it was the 10th, I forget.

Thanks, but I meant the ones you got for purchasing flights, not the initial ones for opening the acct. I am guessing the post monthly when each statement closes?

Yes, if the flights go down in price, the excess will be credited to your account. As long as you have activity every 24 months, they will stay in your account.

The problem is, points earned from Southwest flights do NOT post until the flight itself is complete. So, if you purchased a flight in say, April that you will not fly until June, your points will not post to your RR account until the July billing cycle - after you complete the flight.

So no. You can't purchase the first flights with points, purchase the last with $$ and then take the points earned for that flight and apply it right away. while I understand it, I wish they didn't do it that way since once you pay the $$ for a flight, if you get a refund, you get a credit to your account, not actual money back. Meaning, once you pay, they have your money. The points should post. But thems the rules.

We travel for work a lot and we are constantly in a state of waiting for points to hit the account since we tend to book about 1-2 months before we actually fly.

The fastest way to earn RR points that will hit your account within the next billing cycle is to make purchases on your card, preferably through SW retail partners that offer more than one point per dollar spent. Just bought new luggage through eBags and earned 7 points for every $.

You would get the credits for the dollar amount of the flights you purchased on the card on the next bill (like any other purchase) but not the regular points for actually flying.

When I said about the points that credited after my first bill, I mean the bonus ones you get for signing up.
