Trying to plan a DLR trip with my wife for July, noticed WDW just released summer discounts, anyone know when DLR usually does or will? Staying at DLH is a must for us! Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the boards..I could be anytime or never..with Carsland, I would say no...but I could be all wet. I got 30% off on our GCH room a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, im really hoping they'll still do some sort of discount like they did last year, getting a little nervous..

I'm just guessing. The Summer offer should come out in a week or two, and promote long stays. So maybe only deals for 4 or 5 night stays, could be for hotel only or packages.

How did you get 30% off, Jack? You're going in August right?

I'm waiting for hotel discounts too!

Sorry, I should have explained, we are going with a senior and it is a 30% discount on rooms but not suites.

Jack do you know do they always give 30percent off for seniors? I'm hoping to go again with my 90 year old mother this summer.

I really hope so, I want to do 4 or 5 nights this summer and would really like an offer to cut the cost down.

Don't mean to thread-jack, but is mid/early April the usual time frame for summer offers (Except the early summer offers out now)?

Yep, the senior discount of 30% is always available. Have fun! BTW, your Mom is awesome. Mine is 90 also. She's quite active for her age, but I'm not sure she could handle DLR any more. Kudos to your Mom!

What they did last year was the Summer promotion was announced Memorial Day weekend and was for dates from around June 19th - Mid August. Then around July 26th they came out with the late Summer offer which was was from mid-august into September.

I am hoping they have some promotions this Summer, but think Skiing is probably right in that if they do, they will likely be for extended stays. That would be fine with me..........great excuse to stay a few more days!! :yay:

Thank you Babybears! That's what i was looking for!...I hate having to wait so long to book though, makes me anxious ha!

I totally agree!! I like to preplan and waiting is tough!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us, as our family is planning a Summer trip as well!:)

If we reserve a room only at the DLH now and a special comes out later can we change it?

Actually, you can, as long as it's more than 5 days before you arrive. The wording on the special offers makes it seem like you can't modify existing reservations, but any CM at WDTC will tell you otherwise. On a room only, you could even make the special offer ressie and cancel the room only with no penalties (if more than 5 days out). I always thought this was the case, but I called yesterday and the CM said yes, you can make whatever changes you want to a room only ressie if specials come out that affect the price. He said it not only applies to special offers, but AP discounts and pin codes as well.

I actually plan to do this myself as I am booking a trip for October on site, but I am almost positive some sort of special will come out that is better than my current AP discount on the ressie.

On a package however, you can not modify to make the price lower, only higher, that is my previous experience with them. I am strictly speaking for room only reservations.

I called recently, inquiring about a package, and was told by the CM that they would modify to a lower price if a better deal came out later. The only catch was:

1. The new promotion price would be reflective of the current prices. So if you booked way in advance and the ticket prices changed in the meantime, your discount may be a few dollars less.

2. You can apply the discount only if the type of accomadation you are requesting is still available. For instance, last year we booked a Standard room, a better deal came out, but no standard rooms were left on the days we wanted to go, so we upgraded to concierge, which was available, and ended up actually paying almost the same as the standard room (but with an upgraded accomodation).

3. You can modify your reservation to reflect the promotion up to 30 days before travel without penalty. Within 30 days there are some tiered penalties for changes ($50 - $100) but I don't recall the time frames for each. However, if you can save $300, a $50 change fee is still worth it.

I was told the above applies whether booking through WDTC, Costco or AAA. There may be others, but I only asked about those three.

Now I realize we sometimes get conflicting information when talking to DLR reservations, and misundertandings can happen easily, so I would make sure to confirm this with a CM personally and ask specific questions to your particular trip.

Thanks Babybears for clarifying! I was wondering myself if there was some catch to that and I would hope so since WDTC is notorious for overpricing their vacation packages in general.

I never do vacation packages anymore since we have APs, so I am not familiar. It's nice to know they do that, could definitely save people a ton of money, even if there was a change fee.

I was just wondering if someone told you that from WDTC? I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but I am just curious. They always give conflicting information....

Yeah, they did, it was last April though, glad you corrected and informed me, thanks!

Yeah, you never know with them. Despite knowing it's been done before and that they've just told me on the phone yesterday, I still wouldn't be surprised if I had a problem when I tried it come October. I think they do it because they know you can easily just cancel and rebook a new reservation outside that 5 days. Might as well give in :)
