Food, SQUIRREL, and When We Are Old...A March 2012 TR

aaaaahhh, a nice relaxing boat ride down the Sassagoula River :thumbsup2 And excellent start to your vacation :)
So sorry on the long hike but glad you have made it a point to remember where you are and enjoy it anyway.

That burger looked good! It actually looked like a steak between bread! :goodvibes

And I know what you're doing next ... and if you don't hurry up with the story, I'm going to blab about it here. And I'll even do screen prints of all the blabbing I did on FB as proof. :thumbsup2

<~~~ is not demanding at all

Gotta love those nice relaxing boat rides and that burger looks awesome!! Ready to hear how the rest of the day/night goes!

Just joining.. Looks like a great start - loved the video of the kids finding out.. they were just soo precious!

Joining in! Love your TR so far. What a great video...had me all teary eyed at work :lovestruc Your kiddos are adorable!

Totally agree with your aversion to BK. If I have to do fastfood its Wendys all the way for me. But they just know they have you at an airport. You can't bring ANYTHING through security anymore. My son and I brought some PopTarts and only bought drinks and we still spent a ton!

Loving your few pics of POR. Next time we go we are staying at POFQ, but we will be visiting POR lots of times for their food. OMG that burger looked so yummy!

It was a truly nice boat ride. We had had a whirlwind day so far, and it felt good to take a deep breath and relax for a while...UNTIL...well, you will have to wait and see what comes next! :lmao:

We have fallen hopelessly in love with POR. :lovestruc I know now that we do not have near enough pictures of the resort itself. Will have to remedy that when we go back next year! :thumbsup2

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay everyone, guess it is time to move on with this report and tell the story already...
After a relaxing cruise down the Sassagoula it was time for some Downtown Disney fun. We had about 2 hours before our dinner ADR's. We headed out for some window shopping...I would not allow the kids to make purchases yet since this was only day one of vacation. Yeah, I'm a mean mommy! :upsidedow
First stop: Once Upon a Toy...after looking around and asking to buy everything in sight, the kids took some time to play with potato head stuff:
DSCN2292.jpg
Since the potato head toys involved nothing pink and sparkly Charity just wandered around seeing the sights, sipping soda:
After leaving Once Upon a Story we made our way over to World of Disney where Jilian and Gabe made friends with a pirate:
DSCN2295.jpg
Can you go into this store and NOT try on silly hats?
DSCN2298.jpg
DSCN2297.jpg
Apparently we can't! :thumbsup2
A little side story: when DH and I had packed everyone, we never could find Charity's sunglasses. We found Gabe's, we found Jillian's. :confused3 Oh well, hers just didn't get packed. After getting to WDW, we all had our sunglasses on, so Charity wanted to know where hers were..."we couldn't find them." "Oh, they are at school in my locker." OKAY. Jillian was kind enough to loan hers to Charity. While at DTD Charity asked if she could use some of her souvenier money to get sunglasses. I was okay with that. She looked around and quickly decided NOT to get sunglasses at Disney. Why? Because the VERY SAME sunglasses we got at Walmart for $5 were $12 at Disney! :sad2:
After leaving World of Disney the boys needed to take a potty break. The girls and I decided to watch a show that was going on at the outdoor stage at DTD. There was a group of junior high "Glee" wannabe's singing/dancing. If these were my kids I am sure I would have been so proud...however, they were not my kids and I can safely say...they were not that good. My girls were ready to move on in no time. :rotfl: The boys came back and we went straight to the Lego store where we saw lots of cool Lego structures and posed with our favorites:
This next one cracks me up...you see while the girls were on one side of Woody putting on thier most beautimous smiles for the picture, Gabe was on the other side making sure his tongue would be sticking out just so for the picture! :rotfl:
Jillian and Gabe each purchased a Lego keychain: Gabe got Jack Sparrow and Jillian got Darth Vader.
Cont.d in next post...
We were still about 30 minutes early for our ADR, but we decided to go ahead over to see if they could get us in early. Where were we headed for dinner?
DSCN2309.jpg
Raglan Road!
Apparently they were really busy that night so they could not check us in early. What to do for the next half hour? We were pretty tired from our long day, so we really weren't crazy about getting back into the crowds to do any more shopping. It was then that I spotted a nice, quiet, empty picnic type area across the way from RR. We walked over there...it would be nice to get off our feet, sit at the nice, shady tables under the pavilion and just gaze at the water and relax...:cloud9:
YEAH RIGHT!
It was at this time the Gabriel spotted a cute little cuddly squirrel scampering around happily. He proceeds to chase after the squirrel.
Brian: Gabe, leave the squirrel alone. :sad2:
Gabe: giggle giggle giggle :rotfl:
Girls: giggle giggle giggle :rotfl:
Gabe chases the squirrel again.
Brian: Gabriel, I said leave the squirrel alone Son! :headache:
Gabe: GIGGLE GIGGLE GIGGLE :lmao:
Girls: GIGGLE GIGGLE GIGGLE :lmao:
Gabe chases the squirrel again.
Brian: GABRIEL DAVID SINK, I said to leave the squirrel alone!!! :mad:
Gabe: AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! :scared1:(loudest, most blood curtling scream we have ever heard come from the mouths of ANY of our children)
Screaming, blood dripping, panic...
Gabe had gotten close enough to the squirrel that he had reached out to pet him. There is something about the squirrels in Central Florida that you may or may not know. I knew this information because I had grown up in Central Florida. These squirrels are rather tame. They are used to tourists. They are used to being hand FED by tourists.
Squirrel: Hmmmmm...outstretched hand = FOOD!
Sadly, Gabe had no food to offer, so the squirrel BIT HIM!!!! :eek: His finger had been punctured on the top and the bottom! :sad1: Brian snatched Gabe up and headed to the bathroom to clean it off and try to stop the bleeding. The girls went with me to the nearest boutique in search of bandaids. :scared:
I came out of the boutique armed with bandaids, neosporin, and the phone number for Guest Relations (since the girls in the boutique could not locate a phone number for first aid. :sad2:) The boys had found a bench to sit on. Brian was holding paper towels to the finger and Gabe was down to just sniffling rather than an all out scream or cry. We got the neo and the bandaids on his finger and he calmed down. I just :lovestruc how bandaids can make it better! We knew we would need to keep an eye on him in case of rabies...but what do you watch for as a sign of rabies? :confused3
By this time it was just five minutes until dinner time. We got our name on the list and found a place to sit and snuggle Gabe while we waited for our table...
I just laughed so hard that my kids ran into the room to see if I was ok!!:rotfl::rotfl:
I am really enjoying your report so far! I love your wit (I, too, feel that children suck your brain away!!)
Looking forward for more!!
oh no!!! Those DARN squirrels :( I sure hope he didn't get infection or anything else from the bite. I guess he learned his lesson the hard way huh??
We love DTD - you can spend SO much time just looking at everything there - there's just SSooooo much!!!! And I think your a good mom to not let them buy anything the first day. I agree - they need to PACE themselves. We gave DD a budget last time and we had a free day at the end to go anywhere so she wrote ideas down and went back and got the few things she REALLY wanted the most on our last day. It worked well and they don't end up impulse buying and regretting it later b/c they found something they would rather have.
They always have new lego creations around the Lego store - I can't wait to see what they have up in 3 weeks when we go :)
Okay, I had to go look to see what day my friend's show choir performed at WDW (it was not your arrival day) to make sure it wasn't them you saw. :lmao:
Your visit to DTD looked like fun! We never made it to the Lego store this year.
Sorry about your DS's bout with the squirrel! What signs did you end up watching for? :confused3 And did Guest Relations give you any advice? How did his finger do? How was dinner?
popcorn::
I have all the same questions as Liddy does above...
Great update! Everyone looks just so happy to be there! :)
D~
OMG .. I'm sitting here watching your video with tears rolling down my face !! Your dd's reaction just touched me SO much. :love:
Then I hear "thank you mommy and daddy" and I lost it. Great surprise !! :thumbsup2
Me too!
Thanks for sharing!
:welcome: Thanks for joining in! I see you have two girls and a boy, too. I am sure you can relate to our family hijinks! :rotfl:
We kept neosporin on his boo-boo while we were there and after we came home. I am happy to report no infections or rabies! :thumbsup2
I love your idea about having your DD write down her souvie wish list, then going back to get what she REALLY wanted! We give our children Disney gift cards. When the money is gone from them, they are done. We did bend that rule a little for Charity on this trip, and made additional purchases for her, but you will have to stick around to find out what we got her and why... :rolleyes1
AHHH~ you get to go so soon! I am jealous...but glad I do have another trip planned on the distant horizon! :cloud9:
:eek: So glad I wasn't dissing your friend's VERY talented show choir! :scared:
The Lego store was neat, but honestly, none of my kids have ever been Lego fans. We were there mostly just to check out the sculptures. They truly are worth the trip into the store to see. :thumbsup2 I sent picture messages while I was in there to my BFF. Her 10 yr old son is a HUGE Lego kid. He has an entire room of their house devoted to his very own Lego village (like those big model train set-ups folks have). He is so anal about it that he can tell when ANY of his creations have been moved around at all. :scared1:
I still to this day have no idea what to watch for regarding rabies. DS began acting like his "normal self" soon after the incident and has not had any issues since it healed up. I guess if he starts growling and foaming at the mouth we will know where it all started...:confused3
I have all the same questions as Liddy does above...
Great update! Everyone looks just so happy to be there! :)
D~
See above answers to your "all the same questions". :lmao:
We really did have a great week. Everyone got along really well and the whining was minimal! That's a fabulous week in my book! :rotfl2:
Me too!
Thanks for sharing!
:welcome: That video will always be a great reminder to us just how great our kids are...We may have to pull out the little "reminder" every now and then when they are tap-dancing on our last nerve! :rotfl:
I hear those vampire squirrels are a big problem down there :lmao:
Seriously though, glad everything was okay after :) You never know!
Ok your video made me cry. I love it when kids get so excited and are thankful when their parents do something awesome for them. It was great.
The squirrel thing sounds like something my nephews would do. I totally pictured them doing that while you were telling the story. My sister went out once to find my nephews had a can full of dead bumblebees that they had killed and tore the wings off. No idea how they did this without getting stung.:confused3 I think it's a boy thing. Hopefully Gabe was okay.
Enjoying your report.
I'm finally here!! Great report so far!
I loved the video - definitely brought tears to my eyes!!
Your family is gorgeous, I'm so jealous of all the posing your kids do for photos. Mine, especially DS, want nothing to do with that!
Ouch for the squirrel bite!! I'd be a bit freaked out!! I saw a woman at the CSR hot tub feeding a squirrel...pina colada!!! It loved it.
Just wait with the Legos, at 5, your son is just getting to that age. It seems to bigger with the boys than the girls!
