We are debating about getting some points at either AKL or BWV for our honeymoon. We would be staying in a value villa. Which ones do you recommend? The price for each is in our budget. Is there any chance of upgrade since it is our honeymoon? (I know its not a guarantee)

Only AKV has value villas.

And it is almost a certainty (99.99%) that you will not be upgraded from what you booked on a DVC points reservation.

The chance of getting an AKV value room is small. There's only about 12 of them. And value is not view, but room size (about 3' less in bedroom and living rooms.

Now if you are talking standard view...
BWV seems to be more difficult but it would have more nearby activities for an adult couple nearby. But AKV is an amazing, exotic place to get away from it all, and has a few great restaurants.

For studios the rooms are fairly similar but for 1BRs I would rank the rooms 1) Kidani 2)BWV and (a distant) 3)Jambo

What you can get in either of these resorts depends on when you are planning to go- as long as you are planning 11 months out you should be able to get a studio or 1 bedroom in either resort- you just need to set up renting with a member before the 11 month window opens. If you are looking at something closer than that time it is a different story altogether. As far as which one is better it depends on what you want- if you want nightlife then BWV would be a better choice - if you love animals than AKV would be a great choice.

On the upgrade question- you can't get a free upgrade at a DVC villa unless there is a major issue with your original villa. If you are renting make sure you don't ask for an upgrade as they may allow you to have one but it will be at a cost to whomever you are renting from. If they upgrade you at the desk by your request they charge you for it in points.

I assume you would be renting points. We love AKV but I think BWV is more suited to a honeymoon though YMMV. When my daughter got married we gave them 5 nights in a BW view and the Dining Plan. This was their "mini honeymoon". They also went to HI 9 months later for 10 nights through Marriott related II exchanges. Interesting I was warning her about unit assignments and to expect the parking lot view (Maui) and she called me from the 5th floor Ocean Front balcony the next morning to rub it in just a little.
