Does DME run 24 hours a day?

To that effect, we are planning on flying into MCO, renting a car and hitting the coast for a few days. Then driving back to MCO, returning the car, and heading for DME.

So do I just find a flight # that comes in around the time we think we will be back at MCO (hoping pretty early - like 7am-ish) and then give that flight # to DME before I leave? Or do I not need an incoming flight # at all on my reservation?

It helps to have a flight number handy (any flight, any airline) when making the Magical Express reservation so things go more smoothly. The CM reservationist may or may not ask for it.

Sometimes even when you do give a flight number you get in the mail the DME brochure with flashing 12:00 as the bus time to Disney. That is a magic number corresponding to the flight number not supplied or not catching in the reservation system and it is not mandatory to telephone in to correct it. It is not necessary to be punctual at the DME welcoming area when going to Disney.
