The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show - Updated for 2017 (30 March 2017)

For Sale!

What would any show be without promoters and people selling stuff?

I tend to look at the flowers myself....and it would seem that ORANGE was also popular outside with the nursery suppliers.

I'm not sure that I like this shade of orange in the petunia.

0329GardenShow208.jpg

But the rest....were lovely.

I love the orange tulips and then the picture where you captured the them with the purple and white. Those are my favorite colors. Thanks for sharing them.

Thank you for taking the time to post these gorgeous pictues.

The Cincinnati horticultural society again has said that they don't have the money to put on a F&G show this year.

If its March in Melbourne, guess what time it is? The International Flower and Garden Show 2013.

Guess what time of year it is? Seems like I’m getting to do this on an annual basis!!

To those that are looking at this for the first time, welcome.
To those that are repeat offenders, welcome back and I hope you'll stop by to say hello as well.

Our venue, as always, is the Royal Exhibition Building.

0324FlowerandGarden008.jpg

As with every time I head into this building, I keep trying to improve on my internal shot of that dome. This year, I decided for a different viewpoint.

0324FlowerandGarden138.jpg

The building hosts the Flower part of the show.

I headed here on Sunday, day 5 of the 5 day Show and got here at around 10.30 am. This is the crowd that was there already.

0324FlowerandGarden120.jpg

I’m definitely going to do a non-weekday next year, if I can.

0324FlowerandGarden137.jpg

Entry fee has gone up somewhat this year. The family ticket is $55. Seems like it was $45 a couple of years ago.

I started with the DressFood displays this year.

0324FlowerandGarden013.jpg

Anyone else think the standard this year was the most consistent in the last 3 visits? I certainly did!

Down Flower Grower’s Lane, orange was the new Black last year…and the theme seems to have continued this year; only a shade lighter into the Apricots.

There was even the barest touch of apricot blush even in the orchids.

I spent a lot of time in the hall this year – more than in previous years. So, a lot of pictures are of the floral arrangements.

There were a number of competitions on display. The student’s theme was Pretty in Pink and these were the top 3.

0324FlowerandGarden142.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden140.jpg

The pink flamingos came up on top!

0324FlowerandGarden141.jpg

I also enjoyed looking at the professional arrangements.

0324FlowerandGarden068.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden067.jpg

The Grand Prix was in town the previous weekend. There were still the lingering reminders.

0324FlowerandGarden064.jpg

A couple of the arrangements caught my eye with a musical theme.

0324FlowerandGarden063.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden054.jpg

The display stands were a little disappointing this year and I missed the whackiness. Understatement was in vogue.

0324FlowerandGarden032.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden024.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden012.jpg

I couldn’t resist this one.

0324FlowerandGarden036.jpg

And there were a couple that stood out in the muted understatements.

There were a lot more vase displays than I remembered from previous years. For me, some of these were absolutely stunning!

Vera Bradley – Eat your heart out!

0324FlowerandGarden073.jpg

And let’s not forget that it’s nearly Easter.

0324FlowerandGarden078.jpg

The table decorations were upstairs. Fantastic to look at; but I’m not sure that I would have many of these at my table. Call me strange but I like to have space for food; and to be able to see my dining companions.

0324FlowerandGarden124.jpg

0324FlowerandGarden125.jpg

This was the winner of this category.

0324FlowerandGarden113.jpg

We even had our very own Tree of Life.

0324FlowerandGarden134.jpg

Let’s just send in the clowns, shall we?

0324FlowerandGarden135.jpg

Still….there were some arrangements that I loved.

I normally spend some time outside admiring the display gardens. But this year, my boys came with me (DH and DS) and by this time, they were itching to go. I did manage some shots.

I raced round to some of my favourite traders to get shots of flowers.

My time had run out by this stage. Next year, I’m coming without my boys!
Thanks for reading.

I've passed a link to this thread on to a friend whom I hope will join me in October. I think everyone would want to meet you!:goodvibes

Absolutely love the brilliance of color and detail in all of the arrangements.:thumbsup2

2014 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show

It's another year come and gone and time to update this thread for the annual Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show!

This year's event was held in the last week of March and the weather was just brilliant. We received about 20 - 30 mm of rain on the Tuesday and the show opened on the Wednesday for the Trade and Thursday to the general public.

After last year's crowd on the weekend, I decided to hit the show on the Thursday by myself; as well as the Sunday, with family and friends from Brisbane. So there are a fair few more pictures this year than in previous year's.

The Venue

As always, the show was set up at the Royal Exhibition Building and Gardens.

It RAINED on the Thursday morning; and as a consequence, the building became a safe haven for everyone that morning. And wouldn't you know it? It was rather crowded in there on the Thursday!! So much for a relatively crowd-free Thursday morning.

Still, it wasn't that bad.

I took the opportunity to see if I could improve on the previous attempts of the dome.

I think I'm pretty pleased with this year's attempts.

Oh.....in case you're wondering........this is what the Great Hall looked like on the Sunday morning. It was definitely busier on the Thursday morning when it rained!

Flower Dress Fashion

Every year, they hold a wearable floral fashion competition. This year was no different.

Popcorn, anyone?

Perhaps Eve may have worn something like this in the Garden of Eden.

I just thought it was under done myself.

DeVine has nothing to worry about!

Some of the displays were just a little bit too twiggy for me.

Other's just seemed a little on the whacky side. Can you imagine being a bunny dressed up with all those greens and NOT nibbling on any of it?

In amongst all the hustle and bustle, I was pleased to see Australian Flora featured this year.

You have to admit......some of these creations were just wonderful!

The details in some were to die for!

This one sure put a whole different spin on wearing a sack cloth!

Big Business Floristry

Floristry is big business around the world!

It's no wonder that the centre section of the hall was taken up with marquee billing florists; all out to top each other in their bigger is better displays.

Interflora always takes the centre of the hall. I quite liked this year's display of yellow.

Life really is a bed of roses!

.....and all sorts of other flowers.

Some of the displays that caught my eye.....

I really liked the seaside theme of this exhibit.

Orchids are always a favourite at the show.

This one was my favourite. It was simple; but effective.

I thought this one definitely took the cake for OTT. As much as I like having flowers on my table, I also like to have space for food; and also to be able to see my dining partners.

I was surprised to see such blatant advertising for something that was not flower related. The King and I will be one of the must-see musicals in Melbourne this year.

Anna's dress was exquisite!

This one won the Gold Medal award.

The florist didn't just work up one side of the 'vase'.....this was the other side.

Some of the details on display by the florists that I will take as inspiration for my home.....

Fabulous detail in the dome shots and the floral fashion and displays are amazing.

This definitely gives new meaning to the word flowerbed...:rotfl:
