Dreaded Feb UY.....Fact or Myth?

Have heard about the dreaded feb UY more than once now and would like to hear what the veterans think.....of course i have a vested option as i am in rofr in a feb uy contract

If you typically vacation from October through January, then it would not be optimal. The reasoning is that - if you cancel your vacation within 4 months of your UY, you can not bank them. I think this is a week excuse to call it dreaded though. It is more of an issue if you are one of those people who is near by and makes reservations on the thought that you may want to take a vacation. You would have to decide by September 30th if you are actually going to go.

I know it has seemed that Disney is ROFRd OWK with Feb UY lately but I know someone on the ROFR thread posted today about making it through. I am not experienced with this but I did want to offer you hope! Good luck

That was me!

I didn't realize that most of the OWK properties that didn't make it through ROFL had Feb use years until after I had made an offer on the contract. But I made it through, so who knows!

I tend to believe the drunken monkeys with a dart board theory.

Disney seems to like February UYs. BLT has more February contracts than other months.

We have a February use year. We have traveled in December, October, January, June, and August. We haven't ever had a problem.

I have never had a problem with my Feb use year either. I don't know why it would be considered "dreaded".

Me three, never a problem with my Feb UY and I usually go each year in November.

I'm in ROFR for Feb UY right now too. I picked Feb b/c we plan to travel alot at mardi gras, since we are the only ones out of school. Seemed like feb made sense to us.

my concern is not so much with the usage as it was with the rofr, i had seemed to run across the "dreaded" word on the waiting for rofr board and was/am worried about being rofr'd to it being a feb UY contract. Perhaps i misunderstood the previous posts.

Thanks for everyone who replied

I had a Sept OKW contract rofr'd last week, so it's not just Feb Disney is buying back.

I think the "dreaded" part you saw only came about very recently when Disney exercised ROFR on a batch of Feb. UY OKW contracts. But otherwise, no one seems to dread the UY.

Didn't have a problem with my BLT resale add-on. I would have still tried just to keep the same Feb. use year of my original contracts, but probably would have worried more.

Another Feb UY here. Have not had any problems. We take a family vacation every Sept/Oct. We may be in trouble if we ever have to cancel last minute since unused points need to be banked Sept 30. So far, so good. :)

that brings up another question, since oct is food and wine time, lets say 2 weeks before your trip something came up. can you then sell your reservation and change the names, assuming you can find a buyer?

We also have a February UY and our travel has been in the Fall, October thru November and then in other years we on going in January and February to get out of the weather in Wisconsin. I think that prior to the change in the banking deadline rules, it was easier to schedule a late use year vacation and I wouldn’t be disappointed going back to those rules allowing 25% of your points to be banked before November 30 for a February UY.

Yes, this can be done, if there is enough time.
I actually did rent an existing reservation last Nov. Someone couldn't make the trip and posted on the rent/trade board. It was during a time I could not get ANYTHING DVC so was glad to get it. Owner set up a 3 way call with MS and she transferred the reservation into my name.

glad to hear that.......even if you let it go for next to nothing itis still a positive

No problem with our Feb use year. We also have a December use year, which I think will be more challenging as we approach end of contract term

"Dreaded???" I don't think so! I like my February use year! I also like my March use year, but I am not crazy about August, and I hate December! As a teacher, I spread my use years out so that I could take trips in the spring, summer, and Christmas. Now I am retired, so I travel in October and January to Disney, and the use year isn't an issue, except for that dratted December contract! My new points don't come until the end of the year, and I always feel like I am getting robbed.

BTW, hi Joe from Milwaukee! Remember me??:goodvibes
