Delta Skymiles Credit card

Has anyone ever ordered the Delta Skymiles credit card? The first checked back for you and your passenger is free. Currently Delta is offering a $50 statement credit if you apply for and use this credit card for airfare. I would only want the card for this one airline trip, so I would want to cancel it after we got home. However there is a $95 annual fee. Would we still be charged that if we canceled the card?

Any input would be appreciated. I can always use my Disney VISA to book airfare, I just liked the thought of a free checked bag.

I have had the Delta SkyMiles Amex for about a year. 1 bag checked for free, and no matter when I check in or my seat number, I am always in boarding zone 2. But you must pay for the air ticket with that credit card to get those perks.

Generally, the annual fee for the first year is waived (you don't have to pay it). I got the card for our trip last June and will cancel next month (unless they agree to drop the annual fee). I don't fly much, but I've used the card to boost my frequent flyer mileage.

And yes, my understanding is you need to use the card to pay for the ticket to get the credit, but I haven't tried it yet to tell you if there are any "gotchas".

The first bag for you and up to 8/9(?) other guests can even make the annual fee worth it, as long as you fly enough.

You usually get quite a few miles too. If you fly Delta often you would be on your way to a free ticket.

I've had it for a couple years. I fly enough between work & vacation to use the free bag often. Plus the miles boost is good.

I was going to do that same offer yesterday when I was looking for flights. Went to actually book my flights and apply for the card TODAY and the advertisement was GONE! I talked to Amex and Delta and it was only good for a limited time...go figure! Just my luck!

Thanks for all the replys. I will probably pick this card up late spring and book our flights. With gas prices skyrocketing, I keep worring about flight costs.

Is that what you were looking for?

I signed up for the Gold Card earlier this year. I haven't flown on Delta since I got it, but I have an flights to Europe and Hawaii booked for later this year, so I'll experience the perks then, I suppose, if there are any. With those flights and my credit card miles I should be able to pay for next years vacation travel.

I also signed up. We were (surprise surprise) actually able to use sky miles for the dates we want to travel in August and they were at the lowest tier - 25,000 miles each. I've never had that happen. And we had a $200 credit from some cancelled flight in Chicago. So we ended up paying $69 for one ticket and the full $269 for another but, 4 of us will fly for $340. So THAT is a bargain.

so, when I saw that (and I was feeling super frugal) I decided there was no way in hell I'd by paying $200 round trip to check 4 bags. So I got the card. I'm going to cancel it right after the trip.

If you get the card, you will still get 1 free piece of baggage per person. You just have to have it on the day you fly, you don't have to charge the ticket to the card.

We had Delta for over 10 years with our business. Used a lot and booked coach for 25,000 miles. Few years ago Delta's 25,000 point seats became 50,000 point seats.

I just got a PIT-SNA ticket for 40,000. Not bad considering the cash price is $541.

Really?? wow! I thought I'd have to buy the tickets with the card in order to get the free bags...but I guess they wouldn't know HOW I paid for the tickets. Thanks!!!! :goodvibes

The credit card is tied to your skymiles (frequent flyer) account number. Anytime your skymiles number is on a reservation, they know you have the credit card and give you the free bags. You don't even have to show the card.
