WDW with a Toddler, or A Tour of WDW Play Areas - May 2012 - *FIN 5/30*

:welcome: Thanks for joining in! There are all sorts of things stores convince you that you "need" for babies and little kids, but I really think the fan will come in handy. If nothing else, it should hold his attention for a while. ;)

Oh, and I'm just starting in on your PTR, but I wanted to say my husband went to UT and is a huge Vols fan. We have quite the SEC rivalry in our house, LOL.

So are you a Florida fan and he's a UT fan? That could make for some intersting moments at your house...;) It's been hard to get really excited about the Vols lately. :sad2:

Hi! Came over from my PTR where you came over from the May FB page (I'm making that sound way more confusing that it has to be!).

Love that you're taking your son for the first time. I'm such a sucker for baby's first trips! I'm curious to see what you guys think of CSR compared to POR and POFQ.

I like your choice of ADRs, and I think the food at each will be a perfect midday meal. Nothing super heavy right in the middle of the (most likely, hot) day, but enough to refuel you and give each of you a chance to escape the heat and crowds for a bit. :thumbsup2

Thanks for coming over! I'm curious to see what we think of the resort, too. I'm trying to be optimistic, but I didn't care for CBR because of its size and I think CSR is similarly spread out. But we will see!

Yay, 40 days for us as well, we can do that :)

I am so excited, it's going to be here before we know it!

Oh, cool ... I didn't realize we were getting in on the same day! Yes, it will be here before we know it. :yay:

Oh, no no no. We are united in our dislike of the Gators, LOL. I went to LSU, which made for some interesting nights early in our relationship but for the last few years hasn't been an issue. :rolleyes1 I know the time will come, though, when our roles are reversed and the Vols ARE playing well (and my Tigers not so much).

:lmao: I just wish Peyton would retire, come home to Tennessee and get our team back in shape. One can wish and hope...

See, I can get behind Peyton because he's from New Orleans. The team just hasn't been the same since Fulmer left and Kiffin pulled his fast one. Dooley is still green, but I can see him shaping up to be a strong coach. You know, if Peyton doesn't hear your wish. ;)

joining in :) Your plans look good :) I found you over on the May DIS'ers FB page.

I LOVE the fan!! My dd is 14 and boy as much as a hassle a stroller can be I actually miss having one to throw the darn bag on!!! lol. I HATE carrying bags in the parks :(

I am also thinking of booking in a portrait session - was it easy to fit in? or are they already filling up and hard to find a good time slot?

Sounds like we are going around the same time. So day 1 for you is May 2nd?? or did I get that wrong?

Yes, we're staying at CSR May 2nd until the 12th, wish we could go for longer to make that 9 hour flight worth it but 10 days was all we could afford. We're very thankful for free (quick service) dining!

:welcome: I am torn on the stroller thing. Obviously we need it, but I'm so used to being able to weave through the crowds and NOT used to having to park the darn thing and worry about it being moved ... or worse! I'm sure everything will be fine, though.

The portrait sessions seem to book up faster than I thought they would. I'm having to shift around some of our plans in order to get the resort we want.

Yep, May 2 is our first day -- our arrival day, anyway. We plan to leave home after lunch and make the drive (and I'm hoping DS naps on the way since that's his usual nap time!).

 See, to me 10 days sounds like an eternity! Y'all are super lucky to be able to stay for so long. Right now a three-night trip is all we can afford, and I figure it will be just the right amount of time for DS to get a taste of the magic without overwhelming him. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway!

I previously wrote about wanting to buy a personalized shirt for DS' first trip. I found a few I liked on Etsy and am so happy with the shirt I chose. The seller was super easy to work with, and the shirt arrived in about 10 days. Here it is!

Andrew will wear this on our Magic Kingdom day. I'd love to find some red plaid shorts to go with it, but I'm sure he will end up in navy shorts. (Why are so many boys' clothes BLUE?!)

It looks GREAT!!!

I miss the themed clothing part of the trip but I've been told by DH and DD14 that it won't be happening this time. LOL.

Thanks! That's too bad. I know DH will never go for matching outfits, but I can't wait until we have another baby so I can dress the kids alike. ;)

Adorable shirt! Did one of the DisDesigners design it?

Thanks! No, I just did an Etsy search and looked through them until I found what I was looking for. I totally forgot about the DISdesigners.

The shirt looks GREAT!!!

Check ebay for plaid pants. I think Target had some a few months ago, but not there anymore. I am sure they are out there somewhere!

Thanks for the tip! Don't you love how Target always seems to have what we "need?" ;) I swear that bullseye is hypnotic.

Very cute shirt! And a wonderful little momento to hold onto to remember his trip!:thumbsup2 Good luck finding shorts! I'm not around many boys (I've only have female baby relatives:sad2:) so I had no idea how difficult it is to find a variety of colors. I guess clothes lines want to keep it neutral for the boys.:confused3

Thanks! I was in Target the other day and actually found some cute red plaid shorts ... for baby boys! So I think we're set now. Target for the WIN! :worship:

I made a change to our reservation this morning. We are now staying at...

Port Orleans French Quarter!

POFQ is my absolute favorite resort, and I couldn't resist any longer. It's a bit more than what we were paying at CSR, which is what kept me from making the change for so long, but I know it will be worth it.

I love the intimate feel of French Quarter (no building is a bad building, in my opinion), and the more I read about Coronado Springs, the more I read about it being spread out. When we stayed at Caribbean Beach a few years ago, I hated how far away we were from everything, and on this -- our first family vacation -- I want everything to be perfect (or as perfect as it can be). So that's one less thing for me to worry about!

Another reason I want to stay at POFQ: running along the Sassagoula River. After a couple of months of following Couch to 5K, I ran my first 5K last night, and now I am hooked on running. See how happy I am?!

32 more days!

YAY on your first 5K!! Your time was good too hey??? Tell me all about it - how did it go for you?? My first will be on May 5th for the EE Challenge at AK park so I'm dying to know how your first time was.

I love Port Orleans FQ too :) Of course it IS the only Disney resort we've actually stayed at b/c we were downtown disney hotel folks and off property folks after that and it was SOooo long ago that we stayed there that it was just called Port Orleans and the other part was called Dixie Landing. LOL - it's been a long time!!!
you'll definitely enjoy it there :)

Yay for POFQ!!!:woohoo: I've heard that it's feels more homey and that you don't feel as crowded because it's a smaller resort. And I agree, since it's your first official family vacation, you should stay somewhere you love!:thumbsup2

Hi! :goodvibes

We will be staying at POFQ 5/1-5/9. I switched earlier in the week from POP. POFQ was the first resort DD4 and myself stayed at back in 2010 and I fell in love. I have been wanting to go back, but cost has been a factor. This will be our first family trip also and since DBF isn't a real Disney fan and is doing this trip more for us I want him to feel comfortable. We are foregoing breakfast character meals, but it's well worth the upgrade.

The stroller fan you are looking it is one I have had for 4 years now (since my oldest DD was little). It absolutely serves it's purpose. I use regular Duracell or Energizer batteries (whatever is on sale ;)) and they last the entire week.

Maybe we will see you at the resort!

Thanks! I was pretty slow (I ran at my training pace) but I ran the whole way, which was my goal. I usually run first thing in the morning and this was a twilight race, so everything felt "off" ... but that just means it felt extra amazing to cross the finish line. Good luck on the EE 5K! I know you will rock it. :goodvibes

I remember when the Port Orleans resorts were separate, too! I even have a Dixie Landings mug from when we stayed there and the refillable mugs were unique to each resort (those were the days).

Yes, it has a MUCH different feel from the other moderates, even Riverside. I can't wait to be back!

Yay for you for making the switch! I agree that it's totally worth the upgrade. Maybe we will see each other! :yay:

That's great to hear about the stroller fan. Thanks for letting me know!
