Hmmm... this looks interesting.

Looks like an abbreviated ABD tour that hits some of the key spots:

The "Lights...Camera...Magic!" tour will be a one-day experience that will include a tour of the Walt Disney Studios, the Disney Archives and a chance to shop at the Studio Store. After lunch at the Studio Commissary, board a bus to Hollywood for a walking tour and behind the scenes tour of either Grauman's Chinese Theater or the Kodak Theater. The day will end with a private reception in Malibu at the famed beachfront restaurant, Gladstone's.

The first tour will take place December 20, 2011 and will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through March 2, 2012. The price is $199 for adults and $189 for children ages 3-9 (not recommended for children under 3).

I'm going to be in Los Angeles in February and have a free Thursday I was planning on wasting because I didn't know what to do on that day. This might be an alternative to vegging. Hmmmm:upsidedow

definitely sounds interesting!!

Contact ABD and let them know your situation. Never know, they may be able to accomodate your situation. Can't hurt to ask. I've done the full tour and the Guides and itinerary are amazing. :)

There's more information about it here:

Unfortunately, for me, the tour starts and ends at the Grand Californian. My free day in Los Angeles is in ... Los Angeles, not Anaheim. For me to take this tour, I'd have to find my way to Anaheim for the start of the trip and find my way back to LA for the end. That's an expensive add on expense. :(
I'm with you. If they extend this trip until May (when I'll be in LA) I'll have the same issue. It's ridiculous to waste all that money and more than 2 hours of the day traveling to Anaheim just to head back up to LA then back to Anaheim, then back to LA! I have to think there's some way to accommodate this.

I agree with this. And if you find out the answer, please come back & let us know what ABD says! :thumbsup2

haha... ok, I was going to contact Kevin after his trip to Italy but I guess I can contact ABC directly. I will do so post haste! :woohoo:

Ok, so I emailed ABD and said that I was going to be in Los Angeles and was there a way to partake in this tour without having to go to Anaheim first ... as it was kind of a waste to drive to Anaheim and then drive back to Los Angeles and then drive back to Anaheim to drive back to Los Angeles.

Their reply was that they were delighted that I was interested in the tour and that it started at the Grand Californian in Anaheim promptly at 8:30 am.

Wow, that was so helpful. I'm not even sure they even read my email after that reply.

I guess I am not destined to take this tour since I'm not willing to rent a car to drive down there or spend some extra $$ to get a shuttle (to get there by 8:30 am!) Pity. I think it would have been fun.

Here's a little Pixie Dust for everyone interested in the Lights, Camera, Magic Tour......the dates have officially been extended through April 20. The tours were only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays but Fridays have now been added. I just booked our trip for Friday, March 23, and we are so excited!! Hoping to hear from others that might be joining us on this Disney adventure!

I was looking at this for when I'm in LA in Nov, but didn't realize it wasn't a tour that goes through the full year! and I dont want to drive back and forth either. Ergh. I don't have time for this when I'm in DL. pffft.

Well, this is the first year for it, so it may be that they're playing it by ear, seeing what the interest is. It might eventually be something they run year-round, we'll just have to wait & see.

The logistics of it are really hard if you aren't staying in the DL area. I was seriously considering it for when I was in LA in May, but the driving back & forth was a bit ridiculous. It turned out the friend I was intending to go with doesn't want to do it, anyways, so it may be a moot point for this trip. Too bad; I thought it looked really fun.

Ah, I didn't realize that. I stumbled across it somewhere and look oh! we are doing the same things - before I realized, it began & ended at Grand Cali.

There's is always the shorter less expensive D23 tour option. :goodvibes

Just wanted to post that we just booked this tour for July 10th! :cool1: So it's been extended - for who knows how long as I don't think there's an end date on the Disney information page anymore.

After this month, they no longer have lunch at the Commissary - instead it's at the Farmer's Market. They also have the evening reception back at the Studios. While I'm a little bummed about the commissary, it's still worth it to dip our toes in the ABD waters and see if we would enjoy a longer trip.

We also got a discount for being DVC members - which wasn't advertised. Does anyone know if this is standard for ABDs? Maybe it's because this tour isn't offered on points?

Can't wait for July!! :yay::cool1:

Looks like great fun can't wait either gotta make sure we get some great pics this time :)
