Free Parking

We are staying at Kidani and I was thinking of us going over to the Polynesian one night to watch the Electrical Water Pageant and MK fireworks (while eating a dole whip) on the beach. Can we park at the Poly for free? Thanks :)

Standard parking at the resorts are reserved for resort guests and those eating in the restaurants. Guests wanting to tour the beach probably won't be allowed to park at the resort, unless you use valet parking (which I think is open for everyone most of the time).

This is mainly to prevent MK visitors from parking there instead of at the TTC. of course, you could take Disney transportation to the resort (to MK, then boat/monorail to Poly) or you can park at the TTC and walk over.

Yes. We do this a few times each trip. Just tell the guard that you are eating at Capt. Cooks (food court) which is where you'll get yoru Dole Whip. You'll be directed where to park. You get 2 hours free parking and sometimes they will ask you to drive away slowly so they can note your license plate. They may also ask to see your driver's license.

We've never had a problem parking there to eat.

Since it's so close to MK and easier to self park than at GF, Poly is the one location that I've had them note my license plate. This is to keep people from parking there and riding the monorail to MK instead of parking at TTC.

I have seen them come out and write it down. And they look at licenses as well...and note them.

Here's the thing..you say they give you a 2 hr pass....nope, doesn't happen. Ever. That has never been a permitted time. There were 3 hr passes but we seldom see them anymore.
Really??? The people that are paying to stay at the Polynesian, and get those nice fireworks viewing spots and water parade viewings, should be the ones to get them. What happens if all the people that wanted to do this suddenly started parking at the Polynesian???
You can easily park at the TTC and walk over to the Polynesian. That's what we always suggest.

But, I completely realize that everyone will do what they want. I have driven a car to BW before and had a hard time parking later in the day due to offsite people parking in our lot...of course after IllumiNations is over, there are plenty of empty spots!!! Wonder why???

I'm not sure what you're arguing with me on. The restaurants at the resorts are not just for the resort guests. We only park at Poly when we are eating there. I am not condoning anything else.

And no, they have never given us a 2 hour parking pass. They have told me that we are allowed to park for 2 hours. As for them writing down the license plate number isn't that what I said?

Perhaps you read my reply incorrectly? I did not suggest parking there to go to MK. I said that others do and that is the reason why parking at Poly is more strict. I have parked at GF, Contempo, and Poly when dining there. Poly is the only one who has taken down my license plate. It's not a problem for us as even if we eat at Kona we aren't there more than 2 hours.

Personally, we park at TTC when we go to MK, in case you wondered.

Didn't mean to start a thread on a "touchy" subject. We have only been to WDW once before and didn't have a car and so this wasn't an issue for us. And I'm sorry this thread came up twice. I did do a search early this morning and when nothing showed up I wrote my post later this afternoon. Now I see some else posted the same question only a few hours before me.

I don't mind parking at the TTC, however, I'm not up on all the WDW lingo and don't know what that stands for or where it is located. I'm assuming it is near Poly since several of you mentioned it? Could you please fill me in. Thanks everyone for your responses.

TTC stands for Ticket and Transportation Center (or maybe it's Transportation and Ticket Center; I'm not sure ;)), and it's basically the parking lot for the MK. It's an easy walk from the Polynesian, so apparently some people park there for free rather than pay to park at the TTC.

You do not need to park at the TTC. If you are going to the Poly, you can park at the Poly. Worse comes to worse, the guard will say that there is no room for non-resort guests and direct you to the TTC.

And they will do this if the lot is very busy, so just be prepared. Also, try to stay for the minimum amount of time required. This also is the time when people staying at the Poly will start returning and they have no other option but to park there so it's good to help keep spots open.

You likely will not get a pass because they aren't normally needed. The only cars in the Poly lot withou a Poly pass will be those of people not staying there. Thy stopped giving them out regularly a couple of years back. And the time of entry to the lot is known at the entrance so it isn't hard to identify cars that have been there too long. I have seen security checking the lot and I have seen cars towed.
