Disney Trip Insurance or another company?

My mom is seriously ill, and we have a June trip planned...Long story short, am I better off using Disney trip insurance or an outside company? Any recommendations for outside company? We are driving...and if our trip has to be cancelled, and our points put into holding, would have the time available to reschedule within our use year...BUT, what if there is no availability for our needs??? UGHHH...going crazy with "what ifs" lately!
Any insight other members who have "been there, lived that" can provide would be appreciated!!

The DVC insurance will refund the dues on the points you lose. It's $79 per each use year in the reservation.

The issue you will have with another insurance company is putting a value on the points. Most payout based on non-refundable deposits you lose.

DVC is typically pretty generous when there are serious situations. I would take my chances. I went through that when my mom was being treated for breast cancer for years. I never got the insurance for points. When she passed, I did cancel a trip we were planning, it was not within 30 days but they allowed me to bank points past the deadline. I did have insurance on the plane tickets that I bought through the airline and got a refund for that.
