Thanks for stopping by! I'm looking forward to your next set of reviews as well. :goodvibes

Glad to hear you're going back! Looking forward to reading all your "foodie" reviews ;)

Have a great trip!!!
Thanks so much! I think it's really fun being a "foodie", and it justifies the years spent watching Top Chef and trying nice restaurants.

Thanks so much! I'm sure every meal will be good, and overall I can't wait to share the reviews. :)

After a hiatus here for the past few months, I ws so very happy to see your new report about to start! :goodvibes

We arrived today! Everything's going really well so far - we checked in at the Yacht Club and have already enjoyed some really great food (I'm quite excited to do my Yachtsman review now :thumbsup2).

Also, we cancelled our California Grill ressie that we had for Wednesday. I still plan on stopping by for appetizers in the lounge, but that means we can hopefully fit in another signature. :goodvibes

I'm probably not going to do a live report, since the internet is barely working on my computer. But I just had to share this update with everyone. A beloved snack has returned to the Magic Kingdom - the real citrus swirl!

Citrus swirl is frozen orange juice slush swirled with vanilla soft serve. It was a very popular snack at Sunshine Tree Terrace, and while it wasn't ever my personal favorite, I was horribly disappointed to see it replaced with an artificial orange version. The fake orange soft serve tasted like medicine to me, and I can't believe I got the opportunity to have another real citrus swirl!

Just look at it!

And here's a pic of it glistening in the sunlight :goodvibes

Personally, I thought the ratio of orange slush to vanilla soft serve was a bit high, and I still prefer the pineapple-vanilla swirl dole whip. But this citrus swirl is still such a vast improvement over its fake counterpart IMO that I really didn't mind. After all, I wanted to taste real orange juice flavor, and I got plenty of it. Plus, there's a cool textural contrast between the creamy soft serve and icy slush. :goodvibes

Overall, if you're as excited as I am to see a unique and beloved snack return to MK, I recommend getting one of these to enjoy. It might or might not become one of your favorites, but it's still something to celebrate in the world of Disney food (now I'll finally have an answer when Disney restaurant hosts ask me what I'm celebrating ).

I am soooo excited by this news. We had the 'fake' orange swirl one summer, thinking it would be really refreshing and were totally disappointed with how un-orangey it was. That looks so much better :thumbsup2

That looks delicious....I am a Dole Whip girl myself....but could be persuaded to try this!

Oh wow, that citrus swirl looks amazing
Now it's decision time ..... Do I trade my beloved pineapple swirl for this?
Oh OK, I'll just have both !! :)

That Citrus swirl looks so refreshing! Your photos of it are gorgeous! Does it taste like a creamsicle? It looks like it tastes like a creamsicle!

Enjoy your trip! Can't wait to read about Yachtsman!

I also think this is great news! As much as I hoped to like the fake orange soft serve, it was one of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted in WDW. Disney definitely got something right by bringing this back :goodvibes

It's definitely worth trying! It has a strong orange juice flavor, which can be very refreshing in the heat (even though I think pineapple-vanilla swirl is more refreshing). :thumbsup2

That citrus swirl looks good!! Looking forward to the rest of your reviews!
Thanks so much! Can't wait to post them soon! :)

That looks so good!
It was very good, with some extra sweetness stemming from the fact that it's an exception to the ongoing homogenization of WDW menu items. :goodvibes

Citrus Swirl is going on my list to try for the coming trip. :thumbsup2 :cool1:
Hope you enjoy it! It's definitely worth trying at least once.

Agreed on both - missing out on pineapple-vanilla just doesn't seem necessary to me. :rotfl:

To me, it tasted more like orange juice than a creamsicle, but I was okay with that since the artificial orange missed the mark completely for me.

In order to maximize the creamsicle flavor, I'd recommend getting one citrus swirl and one vanilla soft serve, and then combining them together. If you have someone to share it with, I think that would taste incredible.

So now that we're finally back home (and I no longer have to deal with the spotty Disney wifi), I can really start the reviews! We had the most incredible time - even though our stay was only 3 nights/4 days, every moment was a pleasure. We stayed at Yacht Club for the first time in over two years, and I didn't realize how much I missed this place. I love the quiet elegance, gorgeous lobby, and of course the fabulous amenities and location (Stormalong Bay, great restaurants across the resort area, and proximity to 2 great parks). In fact, as of right now Yacht Club is my favorite Disney resort (taking the crown away from MK resorts after 4 years of preferring them overall).

We booked a garden view room - I think the rooms here are really pretty, and I love the airy nautical vibe.

There was construction going on all over the resort - here was our view to the left:

But this was our view to the right :cloud9::

Soon after checking in, we were both hungry since we hadn't eaten breakfast. We headed over to Captain's Grille and were able to get a walkup table (after a 30-minute wait).

Captain's Grille is Yacht Club's casual restaurant located near the lobby, and it offers both an à la carte and buffet breakfast. We went with the buffet, since it offered a very good variety.

(There was also oatmeal and grits with toppings, a variety of pastries, cold cereals, fruits, etc).

I was very impressed with the selection - eggs benedict, mickey waffles, turkey sausage, and even a breakfast reuben (whatever that is ). My first plate included scrambled eggs, ham and cheddar frittata, turkey sausage, hard boiled egg, grapefruit, smoked salmon with accompaniments, tomato gratin, and raw tomato.

IMG_2646.jpg

There's not much to say - it was all really good. I liked how the turkey sausage was slightly sweet and didn't taste too meaty (some sausage is overpowering to me), and everything seemed fresh. The tomato gratin was also enjoyable with the savory parmesan on top. :)

On my second plate, most food is the same, but I also tried the scrambled egg whites with herbs, tomatoes, and parmesan. This was also delicious, and I wish I had gotten more of it. :thumbsup2

Breakfast at Captain's Grille was very tasty - I would highly recommend it if you're staying in the Epcot area. Plus, the restaurant is relatively quiet and relaxing, and the price wasn't too bad either - I think it was about $17 per person, and that price includes beverages.

Here are some photos of buffet items that I didn't try:

Mickey Waffles

Eggs Benedict to the left, Breakfast Reuben (I think) to the right

Breakfast Bread Pudding

Pretty soon, I was on my way to Hollywood Studios (during the 4 days we were there, I walked either to or from DHS 13 times - certainly one of my favorite perks of the Epcot resort area). :thumbsup2

What...no Mickey waffles for you??? Breakfast does look good. Not completely unlike the buffet at the Wave that we tried in February.

I know, I know - should've gotten the mickey waffles while I had the chance! Another thing to look forward to having next time.

And I think The Wave is a really good comparison. Both restaurants are relatively quiet and serve a breakfast buffet or à la carte breakfast, and their buffet menus are quite similar (fresh fruit, mickey waffles, pancakes, eggs benedict, etc). We enjoyed The Wave's breakfast buffet in January 2011, and like Captain's Grille, we felt that it was a good value. :goodvibes

I have no idea how you managed to walk past the breakfast bread pudding without indulging

Oh, it was extremely difficult. :rotfl: I had decided to limit my sweet treats to a few select occasions (like tasting the citrus swirl). They're coming up, but closer to the end of the trip. :thumbsup2
