Me and my Fiance are getting married in Sept 3013 and planning on leaving for our Honeymoon to Florida on the 9th for 2 weeks. I see this year that the Marathon is the 28th-29th which means if it is a similar date next year, we will just miss out.

I have never done a marathon but I want to do this next year! My DF proposed to me in front of the ToT and it already holds a special place in my heart as I used to work there. Most of all I currently weight in at 260lbs and this would be a massive goal for me to push to achieve!

Does anyone know roughly when Disney are likely to release the date for next years Marathon?

i'm going to move this question to the Events/competition sub-form where i think you'll get an answer :)

Disney varies when they release dates for their races. Generally though, they release them about a year before. The best thing you could do is just check rundisney.com around the time of this year's Tower of Terror race, and they should release the dates for 2013.

Just to be clear though, the Marathon and the ToT 10 miler are not the same. The Marathon is in January and is a considerably longer race. It's great that you want to do this, but I wanted to be sure you understood the difference in mileage between the Disney Marathon and the ToT race.

I'll answer as best as I can.

1. Please note that this is NOT a marathon! It is a 10 mile race, as the name suggests. The only Disney marathon is in January each year.
2. This is the first year of the race, so who knows how things will change and if it will even happen next year. One and dones happen. Date changes also happen. The Wine and Dine half used to be that weekend, but this year is going to be November 9th. It would not surprise me in the least if they move Wine and Dine back to that slot next year and change the ToT date to closer to Halloween.
3. RunDisney.com has dates up 12 months in advance. Generally, the 2013 date is released in the race instructions for the 2012 race. However, they are tentative! Do not think of it as set in stone until registration begins.

So basically, we won't know for awhile. Hopefully I didn't just confuse you more.

Oh no I know the difference between 10 miles and a Marathon, its just me referring to every race as a Marathon :)

Thanks for your reply :goodvibes

I don't mean go be rude or offensive, but you should probably try to get yourself out of that habit, especially on a board with other runners. I have only done a half marathon, and I know much training goes into a full. If I had finished 26.2 miles, and then someone who did 10 or even 13.1 was calling that a marathon, I would be livid. It feels so disrespectful to those who actually do a marathon to call anything else by that name.

The dates for 2013 are Sept 27-28. The information was given on the bottom of the race waiver form for this year's run. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I ran this last year and signed up the first day that they opened registration. It sold out pretty quickly, if I remember correctly.

It was a blast!

There were certainly things that could be improved but it was the inaugural event - so I give them something of a pass!

You can check out my full recap of the race on my site. (if you are so inclined)

Good luck! Go sign up - you will enjoy yourself regardless. Your finishing time will not matter.

Selling bibs for what? Princess?

I'm IN! Registered yesterday! :yay: My son and I did the inaugural 5.k/13k a few years ago, now it's just me. Looking forward to it. :goodvibes
