No Girls Size 12 Disney Bathing Suits?!!

I think with kids growing up so fast we and Disney should embrace the fact that there are still girls at size 12 that love the Princesses, Minnie, and Tinkerbell. I really wanted to get my daughter a Disney swimsuit for our trip this August, as she LOVED the Rapunzel swimsuit but she can't wear a size 10. I have noticed a lot of brands and I'm disappointed to see that Disney is one of them marketing only to the skinny girls. My girl is not the skinniest but she can't wear a lot of clothes she likes and it's disappointing that Disney does it too!! We love our Disney come on Disney Store!!!

Have you noticed that most of the Disney t-shirts at Wal-Mart for girls are also the "skinny" cut - very tapered through the waist. I'm not really interested in accentuating my 5 year old's figure.

The Disneystore used to carry characters suits in size 12. (Just like they used to carry the PJ pals in a 12:cutie:). A few years ago I bought dd character suits in every size they had at the DS and one of them is a 12. I wish I had bought more. DD loves wearing character clothes, but then again she has always had her own mind and is not one to follow a crowd LOL. She likes what she likes!

It's so awesome to hear that your daughter isn't a crowd follower! We need more of those in our world! :thumbsup2

I have TOTALLY noticed that! I just got my daughter a Chip N Dale T-shirt from Walmart, and it's SO fitted! I'm happy they had it in her size, but their stuff runs small, also! I got her a 12 (which she has just grown into) and should've gotten her a 14. She'll probably grow out of it quickly. It was too late to exchange it though because she already ripped the tags off right away and wore it.

OP--Try Costco. I was there yesterday with my very petite mother, who made a pithy comment about being able to dress in the same swimsuit as my daughter as soon as my daughter gets a little older (she is 11 months old).

I know the suits started at 2T, I am assuming that the suits went to 12 or 14 for my mother to imply she would be putting one on. And yes for the record she can buy "girls" clothing (you should see the tinkerbell jeans she has from about 10 years ago).

I am not implying anything, just pointing out how my DD and her friends view it. They think they are too old to wear characters and I don't see anything wrong with that view. it doesn't mean that I think that a child that thinks differently is any less grown up. your reply seemed to imply that any child choosing not to wear characters at that age is growing up too fast and must be wearing things that are age inappropriate. I don't think that one necessairly goes with the other, and I dont see why both choices, characters or not, cannot be acceptable and age appropriate.

not what I was trying to say at all and my DD would NEVER get away with acting like that towards another chld, ever. she makes decisions for herself, but is taught to respect the decisions of others as well. that is all I am asking for. why can't it be ok for a little girl to choose NOT to wear a character without it being assumed that she is growing up too fast and a mean girl???
as for the middle schooler, I teach high school, and apparently it becomes "cool" to wear characters agian once middle school does around. I cannot begin to explain the whys:confused3

If you reread your original post and the one subsequently following it, it is clear what you were trying to imply. :thumbsup2

I am not implying that children who don't want to wear character clothes are trying to grow up too fast at all. I was speaking to why Disney can't compete with offering clothes at that size, as many little girls seem to want the trendy and not age appropriate stuff at the mall. Disney is there to make money, and therefore if kids or their parents aren't buying the larger sizes due to competition from other stores, Disney is not going to sell those clothes.

Already said, both choices are perfectly acceptable. Your daughter can wear what she likes or what you deem appropriate. I will not make any statement or judgment about her clothes, as to do so is ridiculous, as I already stated. You were the one who implied that character choices were for preschoolers and you couldn't pay your daughter to wear those clothes. That about says it all.

There's a Disney outlet about 15 minutes from where I live. Last fall the outlet was full of clothes and bathing suits in size 12. The CMs at the outlet told me that they get the leftovers from the regular stores, so I'm guessing size 12 is not a big enough seller for the Disney Stores to continue making them. I don't think it has anything to do with Disney not caring if kids grow up to fast and I don't really understand how that conclusion was drawn. Rather, I'm sure the lack of size 12 has more to do with sales and money.

My daughter is 7 and has always worn character suits, but this year she's on the fence with the character clothes. She's moving out of princesses, which I think is just a natural progression for her age. I don't think she is growing up too fast at all, nor do I think she is being pushed out of being a little girl. Her interests are just changing. She still likes Tinker Bell and will always have a soft spot for the princesses, but she's just not interested in wearing them on her clothes anymore. She prefers the girl power or friend t-shirts that we've found at Justice. I really don't understand how not wanting to wear Disney character clothing equates to kids growing up too fast. :confused3

I wasn't implying that little girls who won't wear those clothes are growing up too fast. I was commenting on the lack of age appropriate Disney clothes in that size level.

Kids can only wear what is available for their parents to buy for them. Disney isn't really making many size 12s, because there isn't much market for them. They do not have any size 12s bathing suits available this year at all. They are not on their website, and that is because there is no market for that age group.

What I want to remind Disney is that since their kids' clothes are cut small, 6 or 8 year olds are wearing size 12, so those of us with younger girls would love to have size 12 bathing suits with characters on them, as that is what our girls like to wear. I can pretty much guarantee that my daughter when she is 12 will still wear them too though! :rotfl2:

It has been an interesting thread. Some of us are saddened that Disney does not make clothes in this size range, but I don't see them doing so in the future either, as there is lots of competition pullling at little girls in the malls, and that is what parents seem to be purchasing. That is why we purchase all of our character clothing at Old Navy, as they go into larger sizes for kids!

You say you are not going to judge, and then proceed to do so, lovely. As I have explained, now for the third time, most children older than preschool age that I have contact with don't wear character clothing. It is a fact and not meant to imply anything. I am sorry if you are reading something into that statement that I do not intend. Mabye I needed to state it differently to be more clear? DD chooses not to wear them becuase she doesn't want to dress like the preschoolers she knows. Agian a fact. It is what it is and I don't have a problem with it as long as she is not being crtical of anyone else's wardrobe choices. I am not implying anything about anyone else or judging anyone for thier choices by stating those facts. I don't know what else you want me to say about it, but it is clear you don't approve of our choices, and that is ok, but if you are gonig to judge someone for thier choices, own that. Don't say "I won't judge" but then do so in the next breath.

My original point here was to say that I fully understand why Disney markets caracter clothing in smaller sizes, because here those are the only kids choosing to wear characters. I fail to see how that is in any way judgmental??? I became annoyed when it was implied that that meant my child must be dressing like a tramp. My intent was not to start an argument about kids clothing choices and what they say about the child. I am not passing judgement on anyone else's child. If you choose to judge mine that is your choice, but own up to it.

It's so awesome to hear that your daughter isn't a crowd follower! We need more of those in our world! :thumbsup2

Thank you-we are quite proud of her :)

I will say one thing for a lot of the kids clothing out there-it is skimpy!

Tees that are so thin they are see thru, shirts that show stomachs, skirts that are too short and some of the shorts!

I love that she is comfortable with what she likes. (And I love that she is covered!)

You were the one who implied that character choices were for preschoolers and you couldn't pay your daughter to wear those clothes. That about says it all.

I honestly didn't get that from her post. As I read it, it's the KIDS who imply that such clothing is "childish". We've been through it with our girls. My 6-year-old suddenly didn't care for her Dora backpack. It was odd, because she had always loved it. Well, it turns out one of her friends asked why she had something so "babyish". :(

The upside is they will all reach an age where they realize such things are nonsense. A Disney character T may seem "childish" to a 5th grader, and at the same time "cool" to a HS Senior.

I will never own up to judging your child, as I did no such thing. I never used the word 'tramp' and would absolutely never use it, nor imply it, when discussing a child. Are you and I reading the same thread? I haven't made any comments about any of your daughter's clothes, as I have no idea what clothes she wears. All I know is that she doesn't wear character clothing. I haven't said that I disagree with your choices at all - that is irrelevant and no concern of mine. Your daughter not wanting to wear a Mickey shirt is no business of mine. :thumbsup2

I have read what you have said, and still in this response, you continue to use the word preschooler in reference to wardrobe choices. We get that you and your daughter feel that children past age 5 it seems, are acting or dressing like preschoolers if they wear character clothes. Got that. We get that you aren't surprised that Disney doesn't make size 12 bathing suits, as you can't imagine why children of that age/size would wear those clothes. Got that too. Whether you realize it or not, those are judgments. I see that you are trying to say that you don't think there is a market for character clothes in that size, but perhaps you could have worded things differently and without so much negative or judgmental implications?

My daughter, OP's child and others on here like those clothes, and that is fine. Much of what I see at the mall for size 12 is not age appropriate for her at age 8, nor does my daughter like the styles, so that is a going concern for us. At the moment, we are good with Old Navy, P.S. Aeropostale and Kohl's. My daughter loves her Old Navy character shirts, but would also love character bathing suits, as would the OP's daughter, but based on responses on here, I can see that there may not be a huge market in that size for bathing suits. I will disagree about shirts though, as the character shirts at Old Navy in size 14 sell out very quickly in the store, and online, so there is a market for those.

I thank you for your opinion, but I am done, as I feel as if we've diverted the thread, and that was not my intention at all.

I'm so disappointed.. I wanted to get my daughter a Disney bathing suit for our trip since we're going to Blizzard Beach this time. I searched disneystore.com and they have NO girls bathing suits in size 12! I even searched Ebay and the only thing they have is a Tinkerbell one & my daughter isn't really into Tinkerbell. I'm shocked that Disney doesn't make girls size 12 bathing suits!! Am I missing something? This seems a bit crazy to me! :confused3

OP, I'm sorry that you haven't been able to find a Disney swimsuit for your DD. I know it's not the same, but perhaps a Disney T-shirt to use as a swimsuit cover-up would bring a smile to your DD's face. :goodvibes

I can't say that I'm surprised that Disney doesn't make size 12 swimsuits though. I think by the time kids are wearing a size 12, most (of course, not all) girls would prefer something else, especially if, like my DD, they wore Disney swimsuits every summer since birth. I think that the market just isn't there.

I hope you have fun at BB. We're looking forward to getting there someday now that all of our kids can swim.

I know kids here still wear character clothing through grade school and even in Middle School and High school. Disney is nuts for not continuing clothing in the sizes for all kids.

In the states grade school generally starts at 5.

I am with you on being saddened that kids don't act like kids. Seeing how some of the girls in my 3rd grader's class act is scary. They are trying to be all grown up way too soon.

But I can't see a MS/HS girl wearing a disney bathing suit! And some of those girls in your dd's class might have older sisters, and therefore grow up faster. My oldest dressed way younger than my dd9, who is all about "fashion." She spends her own money on accessories, because she likes them. No way would she wear a disney bathing suit, and she wears a 7/8 (as does dd11).

I agree with this, too. My DD is 12 and she will occasionally wear a Mickey or Minnie t shirt, but she hasn't worn a Disney swimsuit since she was about 7.

Tiger~ No problem! I am actually enjoying reading your posts and the points that you make. We think a lot alike!

To the people who posted the bathing suits from Kmart~ Unfortunately those sizes are misleading. Although it says Girls 7-16 as one of the choices, after you click that there is another size selector to click, and only small is available, which is a 7-8. :( Thanks for trying to help, though!

To all the people who are saying that most older girls don't want to wear Disney Character bathing suits.. I do already know and acknowledge that, and I'm not trying to say that they do. All of us have been saying all along that the reason Disney doesn't sell them in the bigger sizes is just for that reason. It's just so sad that an 8 to 10 year old is forced to grow up so fast. This just one of the many, many reasons I say that. It saddens me that my daughter doesn't have the choice to wear a Disney swimsuit if she wants to. She's a kid, after all.

Thank you! My daughter wanted to go there so much last year, but it was just a bit too chilly when we went. We're really excited to go this year because we both love water parks! :woohoo:

The site shows a Large Princess suit in my cart. :confused3

Another thought-there is a Walmart on Turkey Lake Rd near WDW that has lots of Disney bathing suits. I bet you could find one for your DD there. (There is also a Kmart right up the road with a large Disney section)

Hmm, that's strange... after I select "7-16" and then go under it to select, it only says "S" for small. Maybe you accidently left it on 4-6x because that one does have "large" available (which is 6x)?

Thanks so much for the tip about Walmart & Kmart at Disney!! I just may check that out! I appreciate it! :lovestruc

Thanks, and sorry for diverting the thread. I actually edited my other post a little bit (we must have been typing at the same time), as I didn't want it to seem as if I was being insensitive to princessmom29. I would never judge another child for what he/she is wearing. I am just sad that my daughter can't wear what she would like to wear, even though it is age appropriate, as society and the retailers have decided that it isn't age appropriate. :sad2:

My daughter really feels left out and feels like she is being forced to grow up quickly based on what clothes are not available to her. She is not into flashy and grown up clothes, like we see at the malls. She is really upset as she has outgrown Gymboree, and a lot of the clothes that she would like to wear, just aren't available in her size. Everytime we go to Disney or Disney Store, she comments how none of the shirts, jammies or hoodies are available in size 12.

I agree that it's sad that she doesn't have the choice to wear those clothes if she likes, as they aren't avaible, so in essence, she is being forced to grow up, as the next size up is a ladies XS (which is still too big).

Thanks and hopefully you are able to find some bathing suits for your girl!

It's the language you use that makes the judgment clear. Yes i used the word tramp, but that is what it seems to me that you are trying to imply, without coming right out and saying it. "I know exactly what you are implying", and "that says it all", ect are deragatory comments and make your intent clear. You aren't stating facts, but attempting to imply volumes by using such phrases. It is clear what your opinion of my allowing my DD to grow out of charaters is from the statements you have made about it. Agian, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but own it.

I didn't actually say much of this. You are being very generous with editoralizing what I actually said. What I said was that my DD chooses not to wear character clothing, at least in part becuase she doesn't like the idea of dressing like the preschoolers she knows. The vast majority of children we know stop wearing character clothing after preschool. I fail to see how that is any kind of judgment. I also siad that I am not surprised that Disney doesn't make a size 12 in these things any more becuase the didn't seem to sell well. The rest of it is pretty much your editoralizing what I said. My actual statements, without the embellishment, are stated facts, nothing more. At least one other person on this thread has said that they don't see the judgment in what I ACTUALLY SAID either.
Here is the quick list of words you are putting in my mouth:

1. I think that kids who wear character clothes are dressing and acting like preschoolers.

2. I cannot imagine why chilren of this age would wear character clothes
I didn't say either of these things, in fact I think I said that EITHER choice should be just fine multiple times. My ONLY problem here is the implication that a child choosing not to wear character clothing must be growing up too fast and dressing inappropiately. That is simply not the case anymore than the idea that a child choosing to wear characters is dressing/ acting like a preschooler.
My daughter, OP's child and others on here like those clothes, and that is fine. Much of what I see at the mall for size 12 is not age appropriate for her at age 8, nor does my daughter like the styles, so that is a going concern for us. I would agree that a lot of what I see in the mall from stores like Justice and Abercrombie is NOT appropiate for pre-teens. We also do well with the store you mentioned. I think that the shirts selling at Old Navy has at least something to do with sizing differences. DD takes at least one, sometimes 2 sizes larger in a shirt there than Children's Place, Kohls, and department stores. A child normally buying an 8-10 is probably buying that 12-14. They are really narrow and run really small. We found Disney store stuff to be cut wider and DD took at least a size, sometimes two, smaller there than Old Navy.
I thank you for your opinion, but I am done, as I feel as if we've diverted the thread, and that was not my intention at all.

I will have the opposite problem with my dd11. She already thinks Justice is for little kids, but being 4'7", 62 pounds, it will be a LONG time that she can wear juniors. I saw this being an issue with dd15's petite friends, especially when they all shopped together, and some of the girls did the walk of shame into Justice and P.S. Abercrombie is just too expensive if not on clearance.

Fortunately, Old Navy fits her well, and they carry slims.
