I was recently at WDW and on Expedition Everest I have noticed that the AA Yeti was replaced with a projection. Has anyone else noticed this?

I don't even think it is possible...

he's anchored with steel into a separate concrete slab that's contained within the structure for the "mountain"...

are you sure about this one? they would have to have everest down for awhile to do this and it would more than likely require an opening unless they broken him down to the individual screw.

not exactly a one day or one week job

I think you missed him. :teeth:

There is a section of the ride with a projection, but another section with the AA yeti.

Don't feel bad - I missed him on my first ride too!

He was still there last Tuesday. Blink and you miss him.

While I'm sure he was still there, he was not lit up in any way when we rode a few times last week. That portion of the ride was pitch black, so you aren't crazy.

When you are stopped, facing forward in the cave, there is the projection, showing him ripping up tracks. I think it is after you do the backwards part, and you've stopped again before going forward. That has always been there.

After that, not far from the end, you enter another cave area where the yeti is. If you blink you can miss it, especially since she's been pretty much frozen in place, and they instead just use a strobe effect to give an illusion of movement instead of truly reaching down to grab you. If the strobe wasn't working, or your eyes didn't adjust properly, you may just have missed it.

If they actually removed Betti the Yeti, it would be all over the place... :)

Right.....no question he/she was still firmly bolted down but the strobes were not on and that section was pitch black each time I rode it last week. I've riden EE probably 50 times over the past few years and I can assure you I know exactly where he/she should be ;)

Edit: I seemed to have gotten sideways on the OPs first post. The projection was working fine :) but alas no illuminated Yeti.

Well I do know that the Yeti is in B mode, but I rode it about 4 times and didn't see the red eyes or the AA at all. The strobe must have not been on. I remember about 5 years ago when I rode, The yeti was clearly  visible!

Maybe they invoked "C" Mode. Or, more exactly, "No C" mode...

Permanent "E" mode....

as in "Embarrassing" and "in Excusable"

but hey...its ridiculous that the CENTERPIECE of the ride has worked for about ten minutes in what will be 7 years this spring of the ride.

But Disney is brilliant...since they've added nothing (other than extra crooked numbers on the pricing) since EE opened...then you are guaranteed crowds....because the park is still vastly under equipped.

Oh...forget it...i gotta go have a conversation with Sam Adams:surfweb:

It wasnt lit up at all when I went in the end of September. It was my first time on the ride but knew where to look. You could see the yeti just standing there but no light or movement at all.

We went in Sept and I didn't see it. I thought I knew where to look but it was just dark. That is the first time I went on that ride and I was kinda disappointed because I thought I missed it somehow.

I've heard of A and B mode... What is C mode?

A joke (in more than one way :) )

If "A" mode is full motion, and "B" mode is just the strobe, there must be a term for when they don't even bother with the strobe...

im sure i read ages ago a mode they were experimenting with that had limited motion so maybe thats C :)

There was a lot of talk about them fixing and/or coming up with a limited motion mode, around the same time that they appeared to be doing some work around the yeti. But either it was all talk, or it failed.

I am holding on to hope that Disney is waiting, for crowd control purposes, until AvatarLand opens to fix the Yeti since it would likely require a major EE refurb (closing).

C Mode = "Crap Mode". As in, they have a piece of crap worth millions sitting dormant with no fix in site...

I remember when the ride first came out the yeti was easily the most realistic AA I've seen. It was fantastic... too bad its just a statue in a dark cave now.
