First timers in their Honeymoon!

My partner and I just booked our cruise for November 25th on the Dream to the Bahamas! We're both really excited, as it's both our first cruise and our honeymoon. The board is full of information and I can't stop reading it, but most of it is older. Does anyone have any tips? Also, how are disney cruises when it comes to same-sex couples? Are we going to be a sideshow attraction, or are the CMs and such "okay" with it?

my hubby and i honeymooned on the dream MV and our tablemates were two awesome guys on their honeymoon as well! my recommendations would be to get yourselves some “just married” buttons at guest services and wear them everywhere! it was really cool to just even have random people saying congrats! tell your TA or DCL in your booking process that it’s your honeymoon - may be good for a couple extra desserts but lots of well wishes! we dined at palo, and if you really want to splurge on the new ships go for a remy reservation! usually with all of disney’s reservations at some point they will ask you if you are celebrating so thats your cue! we also took a cue from the disboards and decorated our cabin door with “just married” magnets and some fun pictures etc..

as to the same sex part, disney is very welcoming and low key. there are plenty of adults only areas and i’ve noticed same sex couples many times on our park and cruise trips. disney is obviously pretty low key in the whole “party” atmosphere, so i am imagining that couples, gay or straight, looking to party up and make out everywhere probably aren’t picking a DCL cruise to do so!! ha!!! but there are lots of really nice romantic opportunities - couples massage anyone?!

First thing to do is keep coming onto the DCL forum; not to just read other peoples posts and replies but also to ask lots of questions. There are a lot people that have a lot of smarts when it come to all things DCL.

Go to you local book store and buy both the official and an unofficial DCL guide book. Anybody out there with some suggestions for an unofficial DCL guide book. The Passporter was once the most recommended but I haven't heard much about it lately.

I second the Palo dining recommendation. It is a fun time, great food and service.

I'm sure the CM will be fantastic.

I'm not sure where you are going about "being a side show." If you don't tell anyone, they will not know it is your honeymoon. If you wear a bridal veil/Mickey ears hat and your husband wears a top hat/Mickey ears everywhere you go, a lot of people will smile, a few will offer a comment. If you play Match Your Mate as the most recently couple, you'll suddenly have a ship full of new best friends.

Last trip we met a same-sex couple celebrating their anniversary and the only extra attention they got was 100% positive and I guess that was a combination of their personalities (wonderful, outgoing guys) and the slight edge that being a bit unique gave them. Not that they were the only same-sex couple, just they were one of the smaller minority. This got them invited to a wedding, a few free drinks came their way, and they were doted on by some of the cast members. Again, that was mostly their personalities that won them friends but it did help that they had that extra edge. Throw in some "just married" buttons and you'll set yourselves up for some extra magic!

The only way you'd be considered a spectacle is if you do the kinds of things that would make an opposite sex couple the focus of unwanted attention - over done PDAs, public arguments, getting smashed and trying to dance on tables, loud vulgarities, that sorta stuff. Sexual orientation's got nothing to do with those. Of course there's the chance you'll run into the odd person who's rude but proportionally I've found that that's far less likely at Disney than in the "real" world. The couple mentioned above said they didn't have any trouble at all, with guests or CMs, so you should be fine. Congrats and have a fantastic trip!

We took our honeymoon cruise January 28. We got married during the cruise but not through Disney. We told some people like our head server and our server in Palo the night before. Our Palo server sent us a card that said congratulations. The head server had the special dessert sent to us.
The night we got married we had a very large wrapped envelope on the bed. It was a Ducky Williams lithograph, two DCL "Just Married" button and a congratulations note. I did not have it on my reservation or anything so I guess the Palo waiter, our head server or our room host told Guest Services and had that done for us. It was a very nice touch. (although the lithograph is holiday themed and says "thanks for spending the holidays with DCL" I'm going to frame it and put it up at Christmas time.)
All in all they make any occasion special.

It was the best trip we have taken so far. You will have a great honeymoon!

I more meant being a same-sex couple I live in a very conservative area (when my partner and I walk in the mall, parents take their kids to the opposite side of the isle like we have a disease), so we wanted to avoid things like that on our vacation. I'm glad that everyone has positive things to say about it though! That's one less thing I have to worry about.

And I plan on letting everyone it is my honeymoon, don't worry about that

If we are on the same cruise, my DD will be whispering, "Aren't they sweet?" to me regardless of sex and/or gender of the individuals involved.

We've seen plenty of same sex couples on DCL and at WDW. My personal take is that some things belong behind closed doors and other things are appropriate in public. Those things don't differ based on the make up of the couple.

I know you will be welcomed by the CMs on the ship--regardless of their personal beliefs, all DCL CMs are taught to treat all guests with respect--and I think you'll be welcomed my many/most of your fellow guests.

Just don't try to turn anyone on the ship gay and you should be fine.

By and large, people on cruises are happy, and people on disney cruises are really happy. So, you start out with the fact that most people on the boat are there to be happy, and hopefully that means they will be happy for you. I'm going to guess it will be very positive. But, then again, us straight folks might not be as attuned to stuff you perceive, and maybe there will be an idiot or two who you catch out of the corner of your eye doing something like you describe in the malls that might go over my head. It's their problem, not yours. Congrats.

Congratulations and best wishes on your engagement! What a fun honeymoon. My wife and I went on a cruise (through R Family/NCL) for our honeymoon in 2005. We're going on our first Disney Cruise - with our 5-year-old daughter - next month. I've been a little nervous about the same issues, but everything I've read points to DCL being a very friendly place to be. (Of course!)
