Missing Sail Away and Pirate Party

We have already seen the Sail Away and Pirate Party and would rather do something else during these times. What would you all suggest doing during these times to avoid the crowds?

Usually I sit in the Cove during the sailaway (everyone else is outside on the deck) and do Palo or Remy during the pirate party. Your party would have to be all adults for either of these to work for you, though.

I'm going to need to attend both again next year when I sail with newbies though...

During the sailaway we just walked up to the front on deck 10. There were still plenty of people up there but way less crowded and noisy then midship. We did Palo on Pirate night then when outside in plenty of time to see the fireworks.

The spa tour ends more than an hour before the sailaway party. But it is nice to check it out if you have never seen it and they do have a raffle.

No kidding. ;) Go to the tour, book a deal for during the party.

How about things to do as a family? Do they close the AquaDuck or Mickey Pool during these events?

On the Magic class they have to close the Goofy pool as it is the dance floor.
The Mickey Pool on the other side of the Aft smoke stack is open, as is Quiet Cove.
On the Dream class I've seen the Donald Pool closed, but the Mickey pool open as it is more Midships/Aft.

Maybe a Movie if they are showing, or just a chance to explore whilst everyone is up on the top decks!?

Ex Techie :)

I did a B2B cruise last year and on my second cruise I stayed in the adult pool/jacuzzi for the sail away party and I had the pool to myself. Definitely worth it.

If you have kids (or even if you don't!) take advantage of the open house in all the kids' areas during Sail Away. The Aquaduck is open for Sail Away, I don't know if it's open for Pirate Party (it closes for fireworks, I think).

Sorry, on topic sort of. What if we have seen the sail away party and pirate night, but our eldest kids can't remember and the youngest have never seen? Is it worth battling the crowd? I was pregnant last time and I was literally done with it in two seconds. But I am 3 children and 10 years wiser now:)

We have done both parties many times, can't imagine not doing them...Sailaway party marks the start of our cruise, kids love it everytime. I don't ever find it so nuts it's unbearable. My kids are always close to the front, they love making funnel vision. It's like seeing yourself on TV:rotfl: If you are a person who can't stand even someone bumping you, well maybe not for you. I put myself in a mind set, everyone is excited to be on vacation, so if little johnny in front of me steps on my toe, SO WHAT! I dance away with the kids and the other parents who get into with their kids. Other option...go to deck 10, watch a little and then go watch for dolphins as the ship leaves port. Hope your party times are a blast no matter what you do!

I think since our next cruise we booked an Aft balcony (10658) we might have our own little thing out there for sail away. (get the streamers and some drinks), As for pirate night, I'm thinking maybe the aquaduck. Last year we saw folks doing it during the pirate party and it it looked like it would have been a lot of fun to do it during that time.

Ditto!!! 26 cruises and we have been to the sailaway each time. Tropical party turned Pirate party as well!!! We always have new cruisers with us so love experience everything through through their eyes!! Even when hubby and I cruise alone we go to the parties and the shows!!!

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I'm glad to hear that so many other things are going on. We are all about avoiding the crowds. DS(6) is so excited about AquaDuck! I'm sure he would prefer to do that over the pirate party.

Glad to hear you love it too. I also know some of the entertainers and they put a lot into their shows out of gratitude i attend as well.

We like to go to the front of Deck 10 for sailaway. Our teens are usually running around but know they will find us there! We've been to the party but usually I'm unpacking whatever bags have been delivered while the rest of the family is out of the cabin (easier for me that way) and then when it's about time to actually sail, I'll head up.

As for the Pirate Party, it's a great time to go to the movies or shops or really whatever else is going on. We sometimes go to people-watch and get in line early to get a crepe :)

Pirate party, that is our night to relax in the room and go to bed at a decent time. We still dress up like pirates and have fun at dinner. The best was last cruise, we had dinner at Palo while friends Grandma took the kids to all the pirate action!

Sail Away...love it every time. Good time to meet your dis friends and have a drink. Last cruise I still had the watch wrong and missed it! Felt so bad as we entered the deck while all the kids were gathering streamers.

Same here! We always go. Kids with us or not with us.
The energy never gets boring.

Can you see the fireworks from the front of the ship?
