My oldest daughter got a white ipod touch for Christmas. She was on it a while ago and the screen blacked out with pink lines scrolling across the screen. We have tried turning it completely off and it will not turn off. The back of the ipod is getting really hot. I have tried plugging it up to the computer to try to sync with itunes and it still will not do anything. It has been otterbox protected and it hasn't been dropped and nothing has even been spilled on it. In fact when she gets through using it she brings it to me to put up. I can't call apple right now as they are closed. We didn't buy the extra warrenty so are we screwed?

If she got it this Christmas it will be under warranty. Isn't it a year? Pretty sure. Have you googled what's happening to see if anyone else has had that problem?

I would go to the apple site and send an email about your issue to customer service. They will call you back.

Try doing a hard reset. Hold the home button and the sleep buttons down at the same time for several seconds and see if the apple logo appears.

If it doesn't, call apple or take it to a genius bar at the apple store. If it is a manufacturer defect, they should replace it. But, if they determine a user issue (overheating orthey think it was dropped), they won't do anything.

In the future, consider an outside warranty such as square trade.

I would take it to Apple and have them look at it. They are very likely to replace it.

If the back was really hot, I'd be concerned. I would just bring it and all the wires, connectors, etc to the Apple store and see what they can do for you. (I'm assuming you bought it new at the Apple store) They can probably get you a free replacement since she's had it for only a month.

If you bought it elsewhere, I would just bring it back to that store and exchange it. She'll still have her music, etc on her computer and be able to sync it onto a new iPod.

The battery finally went totally dead. I let it cool completely and plugged it up and the apple logo came on and it is on charge right now. I can assure it has not been dropped as she has only used it in front of me and gives it to me turn off and put up. We got it at Walmart and had it on layaway before Christmas so I don't know how they handled the box it was in though.

If you are still concerned than take it back to an Apple store regardless of where you bought it. They will take care of issues related to the warranty there. My friend's son has had issues with his Ipod as well and they plan to go to the Apple store the next time they are near there.

Apple has a limited warantyfor one year with a new or refurbished ipod, acording to the apple site you can also purchase apple care within that one year period also

my son an itouch in April. Last month it stopped working when he connected it to a dock. I imagine he pulled it off too hard 'cause one of the pins snapped off. I took it to the Apple store and told them the truth about what happened.

He took it, handed me a new one, I signed a paper and went home. Best CS ever!

I agree. My daughter DROPPED her brand new 1-week old iPod Touch while on vacation in Tampa and the screen went wonky. I set up an appointment in Orlando for the next day (we were heading to WDW) and told them exactly what happened. The tech thanked me for being honest and gave us a brand new iPod Touch.

Ok, I am the OP here. Sorry for not getting back to this post sooner. Forgot about it really. We found out what caused it to go wacky. It was one of the game apps we downloaded. After it came back on it was fine until a few days afterwards she went to that same app and it did the same thing. That time we left it alone and after a few minutes it went back to normal and we deleted the app. We just recently the past couple days experienced the same thing with my other daughters ipod with an app we downloaded. She played it one time after we downloaded the app and the 2nd time she went to play it the screen went wacky. Left it alone a few seconds and finally came back on normal. We deleted that app. I think with the first time it happened I kept messing with the ipod trying different things to get it working normal again and panicking that if I had known to leave it alone like I did the 2nd time it wouldn't have taken as long to go back to a normal screen.
