I am hard core jonesing for a trip. Anywhere. Preferably Disney. DH isn't thrilled with the disney idea. Too much driving for him. DS has off 2/20 and 2/21. I know it will be so busy. I'm out of DVC points. I have 3 days left on our tickets and we could eat counter service. And (horrors) stay at a value. Hopefully he'll cave. We all need sun. I can't really come up with anything else as cheap.

Where do you live?

We live in NC so we drive and I have 3 days left on our passes. I priced 2 nights at Wilderness in the Smokies and that was more expensive than 3 nights at ASSp. I can't think of any other places that would be reasonably priced. Any suggestions? I'm willing to go someplace else but I like that with WDW I can know our costs ahead of time.

Every time I decide to plan a "small" trip elsewhere, we end up back at Disney. We decided to skip our usual January trip this year and we booked a September DCL cruise instead. Now, it's January, and I'm going through withdrawal, lol.

So, I'm no help at all. *I* would choose Disney. What I like about that sort of trip is...A) I know what the cost will be, almost down to the dollar, in advance, and B) I know we will thoroughly enjoy it. :)

Do you want to stay on propery for sure? Check the DTD hotels and see what else they might have... I would go if you can!!!

DH's whole thing is it's a far drive (we go down at night and he's the one that drives) and then it is exhausting while we are there. He "claims" he doesn't really like disney other than the fireworks and the xmas party. He "claims" he goes because it makes me and DS happy. Yet we always end up back there. I checked the hours and because of the holiday the parks are open late and there are good evening EMHs. So we could (hypothetically) go early and head back for a mid day break and then go back for fireworks and rides without the day guests. I've got the disneyitis so bad because we aren't heading to WDW until December. We did have a June trip booked but canceled it to go to DL/Aulani over the summer.

I know the feeling. We were just there in August, and we plan to go back in May. But this weather is killing me. I'm glum, and weepy and just want some sunshine and a break.
May was the only time I could get away this year, and I am grateful to go. But I think in the future I will try to plan our trips to escape the winter. We seem to need it so much more around this time of year. In May we could go sit out on the deck and soak up the sunshine, or go for a hike. Right now we're cooped up and cranky.
I hope you can swing it!:)

If your DH doens't want to go then why not find somewhere else for a change? That is a long drive for such a short trip, IMO.

I don't mind going someplace else it's just that I can't find a place that would be fun and as cheap. I checked one of those Great Wolf Lodge and they are more expensive for only 2 nights instead of 3. DH hasn't offered any suggestions which makes it harder.

id go, could ya get a good deal onflights so your hubby dosnt have to drive?

We don't have any cheap airlines near us. Sooner or later SW will take over our Airtran gates so maybe we can fly in the future. Any decent priced flight we can get has a stop and DH figures it takes as long to fly with checking in, connecting flights and ME.

We are in the Charlotte, NC area. Anyone have any suggestions?

You're going to DL and Aulani over the summer, have a trip to WDW planned for December and you've exhausted your DVC points. You're husband says he does those trips to make you happy. It's time to make him happy. Plan a trip to someplace else. If you look hard enough you can find something in Destin or elsewhere on the Gulf Coast that isn't too expensive. Find a condo, spend a few days on the beach and drive home with a little bit of a tan after relaxing the weekend away.

does AmTrack run near you?? I have heard several people taking it -- doesn't work for us We would have to drive to Dallas, TX go to Chigco then to FL & it takes a day longer

How about going to Great Wolf Lodge? Close by and indoors in case the weather is bad. Unless you've done it a lot before.

A condo rental at the shore?... Myrtle Beach or an NC beach.

Check out the NC tourism site to get some other ideas.

I'm 2.5 hours north of you (77 North to 81 North) near Roanoke. We fly Allegiant non-stop from Roanoke to Sanford and then take the shuttle from Sanford to WDW. if your travel dates are flexible, Allegiant can be pretty cheap. Just a thought .....

I was checking a bunch of different options and I checked GWL. They wanted $750 for 2 nights. :scared1::scared1: I have a hard time paying that much money for some place 30 minutes from my house. I did find a nice deal in Charleston but we were just there last May and can't think of anything we haven't done there that we would want to go back and do. On the upside we managed to stumble across a lego convention being held in Raleigh in May so I booked a night there. It should tide DS over until we hit Legoland in December.

do you get the Groupon/Living Social emails? They have tons of great deals on 3-4 day getaways.

The Charlotte GWL has rooms for much less than $750 for 2 nights. It's showing for your timeframe a wolf den suite for a total of $459. If you don't need a themed room, then you can get a room for less than that.

Thanks soccermom. I just picked the first room that popped up and was the cheapest. Maybe it was so expensive because I picked Friday and Saturday night. DH won't take time off of work for GWL. Last night he said that he keeps thinking of possible places and then he thinks if he is going to drive somewhere that is 4 hours away he might as well just drive a bit further to Disney. We are still in the brainstorming process.

I was looking at the dates your son was off which are weekdays. Fri/Sat are definitely more expensive.
