Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea same day? Starlight/After 6 passport?

Hey, I am going to be in Tokyo for work and I will have a weekend there. A friend/coworker and myself are interested in going to Tokyo Disney for part of a day just to check it out. We obviously want to see and do more Japanese things than simply seeing the parks, but want to try and get it in.

We are having a hard time figuring out which park to go to, but are leaning toward DisneySea due to it being very unique.

Another option I just came up with after seeing there is no "Park Hopper 1 day" ticket like in the US, was going later in the day, getting the "Starlight after 3 pass" then ALSO buying an "After 6 pass." for one day during the week. Doing Tokyo DisneySea from 3-close then Disneyland from 6:00 to close on a week night (if we want to go back). My question is, will this be enough time to get a feel for the parks? Obviously you can spend days soaking it all in, we are more interested in doing the things that can't be done at the US parks. The day we are looking at is Sunday, February 12 and then maybe a day the next week. If I had to guess, I would think later in the day, on a Sunday, in February, it can't be all that busy and neither would a weekday evening. Any info would be great though.

This is exactly what we did in Sept of '10. I will warn you, it is a loooonnnngggg day, but it worked very well. We spent the morning at DisneySea, then hopped over to TDL. We had dinner over there and rode a few rides. The only thing that messed us up was that Pooh was closed and that was the main ride we wanted to try. Also, I think Monsters Inc was either closed or had a really long line (I can't remember).

But open to 6 was a good amount of time to try almost everything at TDS. Use the single rider lines, they are very helpful! And ToT is worth the wait--it is not the same as WDW or DL.

ETA: I misread your plan, sorry! I think one full afternoon is needed for TDS, I think you'd be bummed only going for a couple hours. I think two afternoons might be a better choice, one for each park.

Looking at the calendar, it does not appear that the after six passport is available for Tokyo Disneyland that week (here is the link). However, the "Starlight Passport" is available the night you're considering, and DisneySea is open until 10. That's enough time for the basics.

FWIW, if your shoes, rather than go for two evenings I'd do a whole day at DisneySea and bag Disneyland. You're a Disneyland/WDW vet, you're not missing too much.

DisneySea, however, is a site to behold... and the kind of place you just want to spend some time rather than just rushing from ride to ride.

Also, the time to see Tokyo is at night... so I'd rather give up a full day (and night) to DisneySea than lose two nights in Tokyo under your plan to see both DisneySea and Disneyland.

Just my two yen...

Thanks for all the input. my title is pretty deceptive as I changed my own plan mid-post. After reading the finer details on the after 6 and starlight, we ended up tweaking our plan (busy day at the office for sure).

We want to at least check everything out and see it, and while TDL isn't as high on my list, it would be a shame if thats the SINGLE Disney park in the world I missed out on.

We will be in Tokyo for 2 full weeks working. Since we will have plenty of nights to go out, explore, grab dinner, etc, as well as one weekend (plus the last Friday night), we were thinking of going out on Tuesday after work to TDS for the 6pm - 10pm slot. I know 4 hours is rushing it, but I suppose we always have the option to do that a second weeknight the next week if we feel as though we are missing out.

Here's our current plan:
Tuesday Feb. 7 - TDS After 6 til close
Sunday Feb. 12 - TDL Open til mid-day (still want to allow plenty of time to see the real Japan).

That will give up all day Saturday, 1/2 a day (or so) Sunday, and plenty of weeknights to check it out. While we will be rushed and all, we at least get to see the parks, check out the highlights, etc.

Any thoughts? Again thanks for the input.

Honestly? I don't think the after six passport will afford you enough to experience Disney Sea. You can get away with doing the highlights of Disneyland in half day since you're familiar with most of the rides and the layout and, in many cases, architecture. The castle looks like the castle in WDW. Space Mountain looks like Space Mountain. Pirates and IaSM look like the ones in Disneyland, etc. So... if you miss them, you're not missing too much.

Disney Sea is just such a different park...

Consider: Tower of Terror has a completely different theme, and is a must-do (IMO) even if you think you know the ride – and that alone often has waits of an hour or more. Journey to the Center of the Earth is a must-do -- and that often has long waits (I've seen it go up to 120 minutes on days with fairly moderate crowds (I've also seen it as a walk-on, so I guess you never know). And that's just two rides...

So, sure, you can hang there for four hours and get a feel for it. But personally, I feel like it's leaving a movie halfway through.

Agreed 100%. DisneySea isn't just any other Disney park, it has to be fully experienced....and it feels very different from daytime to nighttime. You can spend a whole day exploring and never set foot on an attraction.

I visited 2 years ago, saw Tokyo, and can't wait to see the city again, but also extremely high on the reasons to go back were to check out more of DisneySea. I was there one day and it wasn't enough!

Thanks everyone again. I guess I will have to see what I can fit in. I suppose some time is better than no time at all. I am sure my wife would really want to go back to Tokyo Disney too at some point, so I may just view this as a quick look before planning to come back for a more in-depth visit in the future.
