Best coffee in DLR, DCA?

Hi!

My family and I are going to be taking our trip in December this year and we are coffee drinkers.

And I want to know where do you think is the best coffee in Disney Park, California Adventure or Downtown Disney?

Thank you!

They served crud (aka Nescafe) in the Parks and I'm not picky. I think La Brea Bakery in DTD might serve decent coffee.

:sad2:so true, I keep hoping disney will either ditch the contract one day or offer gourmet coffee kiosks.

There are a few kiosks that do espresso. I usually get a quad americano- it's not fantastic but at least it's strong and fresh.

Jolly Holiday Bakery has gourmet coffee. There was a place in DCA, but I think it's in the BVS reconstruction area so I'm not sure what it'll be when itcomes back. But if you want good non gourmet stuff then bring it from home.

I like the coffee at La Brea Bakery.

I think Disney needs to do a deal with a vendor like Starbuck's or Dunkin' Donuts to get better quality in the park.

I don't think Peet's or Coffee Bean has a big enough footprint to compete, otherwise I'd say them.

La Brea coffee is good. There is a cart in front of La Brea (not always open) that has Starbucks. I read on DIS a couple of years ago that though all the dining places in DL and DCA have to honor the Nestle's contract (hence the Nescafe), they actually have better roasts and grades for the more premium dining places. BB, for instance, has a much better grade of coffee than a coffee cart. I'm not sure but I think the Disney hotels also have to serve Nestle's stuff. Luckily, there are other options nearby (Haagen Daz & Compass, as previous posters have said) if you're staying onsite plus you can always bring your own, as bumbershoot mentioned.

I gave up bringing my own because it was a pain. I usually make do with a lesser cup of joe in the morning and get something better later on, when the good places are open. I find I can tolerate almost any coffee as long as I have real cream to put in it :rotfl:

Compass Books I think it is called in DTD, had a decent latte... the only place we found...

Rumors are Compass books is closing soon. Don't know when, or why or if a replacement is coming. Just have seen some people mentioning that.

I'm wondering is it fresh made, or gourmet being a adjective applied to machine made? I've only seen a few pictures of the inside, is there a real cappacino machine in there?

All the coffee served in the parks is Nescafe, although there are different grades served at different places. The sit down places have a "gourmet" blend, but it is still Nescafe. The La Brea Bakery serves a Starbucks blend, Haagen Dazs serves a Peet's blend, and I forget what Compass Books serves.

The coffee situation is due for an overhaul for sure. Nescafe just doesn't cut it in my book. The coffee tastes weak and watered down and has a chemical after-taste. Since Disney is slowly changing the menus, I hope they get around to changing the coffee soon. :lmao:

I did find a picture of coffe beans in a grinder, so at least some type of coffee there is made fresh.

I only know where Starbucks falls, and so many people have tricked into enjoying it by marekting. It's a poorly graded coffee, below average, so chances are that NesCafe uses a better product.

Starbucks is not my favorite, but at least they use higher quality Arabica beans, even if they do over-roast in my opinion. Nescafe still uses lower quality Robusta beans in its blends, which is why their coffee is less flavorful and has a weird after-taste.

Additionally, Starbucks has strict standards about how much time can expire between grinding, pulling, and using a shot. Nescafe beans have been ground for who knows how long because they are delivered that way.

You can buy either brand preground or as whole beans, preground is much more common for both.

As pictures have shown JHB is using whole beans for something.

The problem with SB is this, You can take a clean Hanes Tshirt and compare it to Ralph Lauren T shirt, that has been burned by an iron, and washed in a mud puddle, now which is better?

SB harvests the beans in terrible ways which is why they are poor quality beans.

As much as I dislike starbucks, nescafe is SO much worse.
