Bread Bowls

On one of the DL podcasts, Nancy had a tip about bread bowls that I'm still confused about. Is the tip that it's possible to get a bread bowl but ask to have the soup put in a separate container? Thanks!

Has anyone had the bread bowls since Boudin left DCA? Are they still the same? I don't normally like sourdough, but seriously loved the gumbo bread bowls.

Boudin hasn't left DCA. The tortilla factory closed, but the bread factory is still up and running and branded Boudin. I just had some of the delicious bread when we were there at Thanksgiving.

This picture makes the cup look huge. It actually isn't enormous, it looks kinda small, but it's still filling. I ate just the top of the breadbowl, and it was perfect.

It was on my last day, and I brought the rest of the bread home to DH and DS, who loved me for it.

For me personally, I can't ever eat the whole bread bowl, but a lot of the soup gets sopped up into it, thus being "wasted" lol, so I find that I get more "bang for my buck" by getting the bowl separately and just ripping off pieces of the bread and dunking.

Some like to keep the bowl to snack on later.

I'm a salad in the bread bowl gal. I just love the asian chicken and the shrimp louis.

So you don't get the bread all soggy, so you can save it for later.

I've actually been with Nancy when she did this and regretted that I didn't try it myself. She was nice enough to give me a taste of some of the bread though.

BTW, I believe you can also request butter when you do this.

Yep, they usually offer me a crazy amount of butter. I often ask them to keep half the butter so it doesn't go to waste.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhh, I missed that, are they gone, when did that happen? We didn't get by there this past trip, but every other time we were there, they were always so busy, a line all the time.

LOL no need to panic. 3Minnies misspoke. The TORTILLA factory closed and there was confusion. There are still Boudin bread bowls galore

I'm going to do the separate cup too as I don't eat nearly enough bread to enjoy having the soup *in* my bread bowl.

Does anyone know if you can order the soup separately? Ideally, I'd like to get two soups (in cups) and one boule.
