One day at the beach.....in January

We will be in Orlando from December 31 - January 7th celebrating DS's "Sweet 16". The birthday boy's desire for our last full day of vacation (Jan. 6th) is to visit the beach.

Now we realize that swimming will be out.....we're from Canada, but even we can't swim in water THAT cold ... however we want to at least be there, stick our feet in the water, and have the "experience" of visiting the ocean (does that make sense?).

So the question is.....should we plan to visit Cocoa Beach (the closest) or Clearwater? Is it worth the extra drive to Clearwater when there's going to be no real swimming to be done? Which one might have a reasonably priced, fun activity to do while we're there that would appeal to a teen and two adults? (no interest by hubby or son in touring the Space Center, so that's out). Would anyone suggest an airboat ride, and if so, which one?
