Well I am going to give this trip report thing a try. We started planning this particular trip back in early March, but realized it was so far off we did a short trip in May as training (that’s what I’ll call it!). When we started it was going to be me, theduck619 here on the Disboards, DW, and our six year old twin daughters. After some discussion we decided that we should invite DW’s parents since it may be the last time they would get to travel to Florida for some time.

So, as any Disdad worth his salt would do, I dove into my research on how we would do the accommodations. Would we book two rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort or another moderate? Well, I just happened to know someone on the inside of the DVC world and they mentioned that they were looking to rent some of their points. I discussed it with the Queen (DW) and she gave me permission to pursue it further. We thought the idea of a 2BR villa would give my in-laws the privacy of their own bedroom. We also liked the idea of a kitchen so we could make some of our own meals and therefore cut down on some of the food costs (so we could spend more on souvenirs and treats!). At my initial search I was told by a few people who were renting points that only OKW, SSR and Boardwalk were available for the week we were looking at. Well, we were very excited to hear that we could get a 2BR at Kidani Village for 11/26-12/1!! Our awesome DVC insider booked it for us and we were off and running.

After our little training trip in May (2 days at MK, CBR) we decided we would ask my wife’s sister to join us. Ok, we were now up to 7 people! I could do this and not climb a bell tower to take any one out. This was how it was set as of June 1st. Fast forward to November 21st and we learned that my MIL and FIL would not be able to come unless they could bring my niece and nephew who they have emergency custody of. I find this out on the Monday before we leave, are you kidding me??? Luckily the 2BR has capacity for 9 so we were able to get the kids added with the help of my friend! The only issue now was that we would have to take two vehicles instead of one. It is roughly a 17-19 hour drive to Disney from Indianapolis. Our plan was to leave the house on Black Friday at 4am and head to Valdosta, GA where we would stay for the night. Our cast of characters for this epic journey is as follows:

TheDuck – me
The Queen – DW (I know better then to post her age)
FIL – Freddy Five Fingers
MIL – Drill Sergeant Mary
SIL - Snaps
DD1 – Giggles - 6
DD2 – Scooter - 6
Niece – Lizzy Poo - 6
Nephew – Little Man – 9

Would our trip go off with out any hitches? Would any of the in-laws be left on the side of the road for questioning a Disdad’s superior planning? Would we arrive to our first stop before the end of the year? Stay tuned for our next installment that will include pictures, I promise!

Count me in! :thumbsup2

Nice intro. You’re off to a good start (and… I love the nicknames; you may have to give a little bit of background on those as the story progresses).

Great start David!

Welcome and feel free to learn from my mistakes, there will be many :lmao:

You must know her :rotfl2: Welcome

I'm in, and if we're voting, I'm voting for the MIL to be voted off...who wants a Drill Sergent on a WDW trip? :-D

She helps get everyone out the door, so I can not let her get voted off.

Welcome :thumbsup2

I hope to have the next installment tonight :cool1:

It’s time for our next installment! I know you can hardly contain your excitement. I left you last with a long list of nicknames. These should be explained here so that you get a sense of my mindset when planning trips. When we have planned trips in the past with my in-laws my FIL has always wanted an itinerary of what we were doing so he could “picture it” in his mind. I decided a straight outline was boring so I decided to do something a little more fun. With this trip we went with a Mission Impossible theme:

Assignment: Family Vacation 2011

Destination: Walt Disney World

I know, it’s dorky but the last anything has ever accused me of was being normal or sane. When we handed these out I had the theme from the TV show qued up on the iPad and the DW covertly (with her sunglasses on) handed them to the three adult members of the team and then disappeared into the crowd (actually the living room, but you get the idea. More on the next page……

So, where was I……oh yeah. Everyone had arrived Thanksgiving night and we got everyone to settle down and we handed out the Top Secret agenda for our trip. The photos I had on the documents are not copying over, so I apologize. I am not very techy or IT literate as some of you already know. Anyway here was the meat of the documents:

Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to infiltrate the “Happiest Place on Earth”. You will be undercover for six days as a family who “likes” one another.
This mission will need to be documented through photographs, blog entries, facebook updates and emails. Your transportation will be a rocket powered; monster truck disguised as a mini van. Do not let the looks of this vehicle fool you, this beast can fly!
We have assembled a crack team of operatives for this mission, each one with special talents and skills. Some of these folks are not meant to be crossed (You know who you are!). The following pages give a brief overview of your team members, itinerary, special intelligence for the mission, and special tips needed for survival in the jungle you are about to enter!

Itinerary:
Friday 11/25 – Leave HQ before dawn – rally point is Valdosta, GA
Saturday 11/26 – Leave rally point and head to WDW – Dinner at 1900 Park Fare
Sunday 11/27 – Relax in the AM – Hollywood Studios in the PM
Monday 11/28 – Spend day researching MK
Tuesday 11/29 – Epcot Day 1
Wednesday 11/30 – Epcot Day 2 – Duck and Queen have super secret meeting in the evening at swanky eating hole.
Thursday 12/1 – Start for trek home
