It was suggested that I share some events/details from my four night visit last week. Need to preface with the fact that we are BWV/Epcot people. Only time we get on a bus is for ME. Can't beat the convenience of 5-10 minute walk to and from WS. That said, the story begins back in October. My sister and BIL had just completed the first week of their two week stay, when we were advised on 10-18 that our dad needed to go into hospice. They decided to come back 3 days early, which was a good decision, as he passed on 10-25(the date of their originally scheduled return). BWV agreed to give them the points back for those three days, but the issue was that they would expire on 12-1.

On Nov 14, I rcvd notification of a cheap airfare from MKE to MCO. Advised my sister that if any studios available last week of Nov, I would buy her points. She asked for BWV or BCV first, but only availability was at OKW and SSR. Booked OKW as fewer points and closer to Epcot.

11-27...Arrived at OKW HH at noon. At check-in I realized that the reservation was in both my name and Pam my DW, when they gave me two keys. I informed them that Pam had been unable to get off work and was not with me. No big deal, and I could move right into studio 5115. Stopped at concierge and had 4 day pass added to room key. Bell services ride to room, and at the bus stop by 12:20. Forty minutes later I was in WS. Not like the 10 minute walk I'm used to, but I knew that going in. Stayed until after Holiday Illuminations, and rather than deal with the bus going back, I walked over to BWV and grabbed a cab back to OKW. Ten minutes later I was in my room.

11-28...No longer wanting to deal with bus stops or cab costs, contacted sister at 11:30 to call MS to see if a late cancelation at BWV or BCV. She advises studio available at BCV and OKW agrees to cancel last two nights. All I have to do is stop at HH to get a new key to reflect check-out date change. Shortly after noon I am happy and eating sushi at Tokyo Dining.........let the games begin!! Rain in the forecast for afternoon and evening. First drops begin to fall around 2:30, so I leave UK and head for bus stop. Fortunately no downpour until I got there. Fifteen minute wait for bus. A half hour later I arrive at HH to change keys. I advise castmember of the change. He advises that they show I am checked-out of 5115, and need to check-in to 1510. Advised him that this transaction took place at 11:45 while I was at Epcot, so how could I have checked-out, but if true, where are my belongings? A five minute phone call later, I can stay in 5115, and he gives me two new keys(one for Pam of course). Went over to store to get a soda and snacks. Hand her my key to charge to room, and she advises I have no charging privileges, though I can go back next door to get CC added. No, thanks. Paid cash, stopped at Goodings for a sandwich for supper in room, and headed to bus stop to await internal bus back to 5115. Left UK at 2:30 and stepped inside 5115 at 4:05......my stuff is still there!

11-29...Call bell services at 8:30 AM to come and get my bag, as I am moving to BCV. Planned on taking bus to DHS and boat to BCV. Van arrived 10 minutes later, and I assumed the bag and I would both be dropped off at HH. Driver took me directly to BCV. Things are looking up!! Not so fast. Took bag with me to check-in and gave her my name. She tells me they have a reservation for "Pam". I explained the situation, and I rcvd a key for both of us. BCV will text me when room is ready. Asked her if she could contact ME to advise change from OKW to BCV for pick up on 12-1. I handed her the ME voucher with flight info. She calls ME and they advise her the Frontier flight number is not valid. How can it not be valid, if it is on the voucher they provided? Cast member tells me I can come back later to advise the correct flight number. Pull out my laptop to look it up. No wireless connection. She says try further out in lobby for connection. Find a chair and give up after five minutes. Walked over to bell services and dropped off bag and laptop, before heading over to concierge for assistance. After 10 minutes on phone with ME, she is able to complete the change on her computer. Thank you!!

All of this fun had made me hungry, so I decide to walk over to Kouzzina for breakfast. As I am walking, it occurs to me that with all of these key changes, my current key may no longer have my park pass info, so I head over to IG to try it. Correct, room key only, need Guest Services to resolve. Cast member had to recreate the original key I had rcvd at OKW. It works and I continue on to breakfast. Seated within five minutes and just after I had given Christopher my order, my phone rings. "Mr. Schelling, this is Galo at BCV. Room 361 is available right now, if that is OK, but you will need to come back to check-in for key change"(where have I heard that one before?). After a great skillet and bloody mary, I headed back to BCV check-in. Get my new key(s) and turn around to bell services with my receipt, where I am advised I need to go to bell services outside. Outside she asks if I am checking in or out. Checking-in, but receipt says checking-out. Cast member goes back inside with me to straighten out. About 10 minutes later the bags are in my room and bell services apologizes for confusion. I have a BCV room, BCV room key(s), and an OKW room key/park pass. Now get me a drink!!

Quite uneventful after that. Candellight with Michael W. Smith was wonderful. Nice to be able to walk back to room for change of clothes, as last two nights were a bit chilly. Personal lessons learned: Book all trips at BWV, make no changes to reservation after initial check-in if you can't speak directly to MS, always purchase or renew annual pass, and no more solo trips.

Not meant to point fingers or place any blame. Just sharing because you can't make this s...t up. Can't wait to return to BWV in 2012!!

Hi Skunk:

My condolences to you in your Dad's passing. I know from experience that this is a very trying time.

I am really glad to hear that you were able to get back to the Epcot resort area. Boardwalk is our first love!

Most of the times, these types of threads are either to really praise the great service of Disney, OR to really show that they are completely awful.
To the life of me, I can't figure out if this thread is a rant or a rave.

We've had issues with keys in the past as well. I'm glad to know the rest of the trip was great.

It could be either a ranting rave, or a raving rant, either way, glad it worked out for the OP.

Our only ranting stays have been at the BWV, isn't it funny how it can be great for others and not for some and vice versa. Never a problem ever at OKW.

Ditto. To OP, I'm sorry for your loss but glad you were able to squeeze in a trip. Considering all the last minutes changes, to me it seemed to go pretty smoothly but can't figure out if you felt the same.

We love BWV as well. Dh and I were going to stay there for marathon weekend, but decided last minute to take the kids with for an entire week. Instead we'll be at SSR and AKV which I'm excited about, but will still miss the boardwalk. Really the best area to stay on property.

That's a little scary, but fortunately there were no real issues.
Unrelated to Disney, my wife was researching hotels for a trip to Boston and found multiple independent posts about guests checking in and finding the prior guest belongings were still in the room -- Hotel management was indifferent. Every hotel gets some bad reviews, but these reports made us select a different hotel.

I second this one - BWV is the only one we have had issues with.

To OP sorry about your dad's passing. It sounds as if you still enjoyed your trip with all the missteps and that you handled them in a very dignified manner. As you said there are times when "you can't make this up". There have been some of those for us and in the end we just end up laughing really hard.

Hope your next trip will be wonderful and less eventful.

I too am sorry for your loss.

I would suggest the choice you made set you up for the other issues. I would recommend against canceling and changing rooms mid stream if you can avoid it. Given the position you were in, I'd say you came out much better than I would have predicted. The other issue is you need to have your sister check her points as it's very possible they put points in holding and used other points to book the BCV stay.

I'm just surprised you can change resorts mid stay without losing points at the cancelled resort and having to use new points at the new reosrt..
At least it all went ok overall.

Considering all of the nonsense, you (OP) seem to have a positive outlook and that probably helped during such a stressful time. Disney is big, too big in my opinion and therefore they can omit some of the details. The way that I approach large corporations like is Disney is to know that I am the only one with my best interest at heart and therefore double check things accordingly. I am not a pessimist, just a realist.
My condolences to you and your family during this holiday season.

We learned long ago, don't make last minute changes or you run the risk of added problems. The more people that are involved, the higher the risk.

Exactly and the risk is compounded exponentially when the resort is involved in canceling and using your points for a new reservation.

Thanks to everyone for the condolences. Must be my age, as four of my HS classmates have lost a parent in the past 6 wks as well.

Just seemed so bizarre that every time I stepped up to a counter during that 24 hr period, another issue would arise that I had not anticipated. Never thought a resort change could cause so much confusion/miscommunication, but with so many parties involved, I guess it's somewhat understandable. Going forward, BWV or BCV only, and no changes midstream.

On a positive note, I booked our next trip yesterday: 7 nights @ BWV for the final week of F&W 2012. Thanks again for the kind words.
