Surely Disney would never do this to resale points

Do you think Disney would ever prohibit the use of SAB at the Beach Club Villas to direct purchases only? I think this was mentioned on another message board and it really did blow my mind. I just can't fathom this at all.

Access to SAB is a perk of staying at the resort. I don't ever see them trying to impose limits on pool usage based on where your membership was purchased.

As mentioned by erionm, this would be a perk and is such is fair game for Disney to change any time they want.

Do I think they will do restrict SAB to direct buyers only? No, not really. For one thing, I'm not sure how CM's on-site would ever know if you bought direct or resale.

But would it absolutely shock me if Disney continues to restrict DVC perks from resale buyers? Can't say that would shock me either.

I'm lost here. The only way you can use SAB is to be a guest at a resort in which SAB serves as the main pool. If you use points to stay at one of those resorts, you as a guest get to use the amenities offered to the guests. I don't see how resale buyers can be barred from using SAB, under the timeshare contract or under the resort/guest relationship that exists when a guest checks in.

I don't think they would do it, but there is a way with the new advances and trials of RFID chips to know who is who.

Do I think they will continue to place restrictions on resale versus direct, yes I do.

Stormalong Bay is listed as an ammenity of the resort in the public offering statement. Dues pay a portion of the operating costs, so it seems that members who could not use it should not have to pay dues on it. That would get too complicated. Restricting resales from the Disney Collection doesn't affect dues.

While that's true, I could see them limiting the use of SAB to only those who pay dues at BCV.

It would be too hard to enforce and actually cost DVC to make this restriction happen

Not as long as BCV participates in the exchange program. Like Debbie pointed out, its a resort amenity guaranteed to all owners. It's part of what owners bought. Resort pools are NOT a perk.

As long as there is an exchange agreement in place which allows BCV owners to use their points at other DVC resorts, non-owners staying at BCV have full rights and privileges to BCV amenities including the pool. Resale vs. direct status has no bearing on this whatsoever, nor does Home resort ownership.

I remember when we were purchasing BCV there was mention of SAB in the marketing material but it had an asterick next to it with a footnote that read something like: *SAB is currently available to BCV members; subject to change in the future (this is not an exact quote - I am going from memory).

I questioned our guide about this and he said "DVC members are Disney's best guests, you are the ones coming here loyally year after year and Disney would never want to do anything to upset its best guests." Again I am paraphrasing but it was something close to this statement. More of a fluff statement to make us feel better but not really a guarantee.

So I guess Disney did reserve the right to change the policy about access to SAB (not matter how you bought into DVC) but I can't see them doing so from a practicality standpoint, but I do think they're reviewing every option to encourage new owners to buy direct.
