Last trip 2 of our 4 AP's demagnetized..... Haven't gotten to fix it yet but If I can swing the Plastic cards that would save me from doing it again.

I've heard that they issue plastic APs at the resort concierge areas.

Yea. They'll put it on your KTTW card but it's basically just your hotel key. I don't know about you guys, but that would get confusing to me throughout the course of a year.

I have read that the resorts can only do new APs, not renewals. I'm not sure if they would be able to transfer your existing APs to new ones on the KTTW cards, knowing that information.

But I guess you can always ask and find out. Only the resorts (and maybe not all - I'm not sure - it was only a few when it started) can print APs on the plastic KTTW ticket media.

Most who know (ticket CMs and very frequent visitors) say the plastic cards are more problematic than the normal Tyvek tickets -- demagnetizing more frequently.

We got them at the BWV recently. They are on the same kind of card as room keys but it was not added on to our room key. You have to get them through the Guest Services/Concierge desk, not the Registration (Check In) desk.

Personally I prefer the regular APs. We've gotten them for years and never had an issue. These seem so bulky to me, but I'm sure I will get used to them.

So I can try to get my new APs with DVC discount at VWL concierge on plastic? DH treats his AP like, well, garbage and I am tired of being held up at entry constantly and at FP machines because of his raggedy AP.

It's all about the magnetic strip, and the strip in the plastic (I've read) isn't any better quality than the strip in the tyvek!

I had huge problems with my plastic Disneyland APs that I had over two years. I'd get in (they just scan the barcode at DLR), but then when the strip was being read it would show that I hadn't gotten in. Couldnt use FP machines or have them just swipe the card for food discounts (and food CMs are really anti keying in the numbers).

Plastic isn't going to solve all your problems with the magnetic strips...

We got our APs on plastic from the concierge desk at BLT. The room key was separate and looked the same so you had to pay attention to the wording on the key. I like having the plastic and we haven't had any problems with ours. It was nice to be able to get the pass at the hotel.

Make sure that you use the AP sleeves that they give you and you will have less problems.

This month I purchased an AP at the BCV Concierge- and yes, it was on plastic, looked just like my KTTW card. I went over to the IG entrance at EPCOT to get a TIW card, and asked the CM if he would be able to give me the tyvek AP instead- I was afraid I would mix up the two, or, worse yet, throw it out when I got home. He said no problem, sighed, and shook his head- not at ME, but at the hotel. He said, "I can't believe they are still doing this." Huh? He said they should never issue APs at the concierge desks- because if you ever lost the pass, it is not tied into the same computer system as the parks, and the parks would have no record of your AP to reissue it. :scared1::scared1::scared1: So I would double check getting that AP in plastic at the hotel....or be VERY good about holding onto your receipt, just in case-

It doesn't matter if your AP is on plastic or tyvek, if you get the magnetic strip anywhere near a cell phone, it will demagnetize. The key is to keep your AP in a pass lanyard around your neck so it can't get anywhere near that dreaded cell phone.

I am buying a couple of AP's during my visit in a couple of weeks, and was on the fence about buying at the resort (BWV) or at a Guest Relations office. This post just made my decision very easy. Thank you.

I'd say that's wise, Granny! I've never figured out why anyone thinks the plastic is better than the tyvek anyway. They wrap houses in Tyvek, so it should be tough enough for an AP!;)

We always order ours online and exchange the voucher at guest services at the first park we attend. We've been getting APs for about 14 years now, and I've never had an issue with one disintegrating. We HAVE had to get them replaced for getting demagnatized from being near a cell phone though. I'm the one who usually forgets and puts it in the same pocket with my phone. :(

It's my understanding that the standard AP are more robust than the plastic; got to keep them magnetic strips away from other magnetic devices.

I dont have an AP - just a Florida Resident Seasonal Pass but I got mine at the AKL concierge. When I mentioned "oh it looks like a room key" The cast member said if you get your passes at a resort they will be plastic (they look just like room keys) but if you do them at a park they will be paper. I for one am thrilled with the plastic - seems more durable to me. She even gave me a little paper envelope which I keep it in so I dont mistakenly throw it away thinking its an old room key!

I'm very confused. I posted the above post yesterday, but it says someone named Donaldjack posted it. Why is that?

We always get a TIW at the same times as our passes, so we don't use the Concierge. I prefer the tyvec passes, anyway. I keep both the AP and TIW in my wallet year-round.

Sounds like anyone who gets their AP at the Concierge desk needs to take a digital photo of it to record the numbers in a safe place. I do the same thing as soon as I get a new PhotoPass.
