Thought I would start a thread on Turkey day. Feel free to post what you are having, what you will be doing and even what you are thankful for. Food porn is encouraged.

Me?

Thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year. For years I acted as cook just to make sure it is done right. After last year eating pressed turkey sitting in hospital bed, Thanksgiving will be all the favorites. Caprese salad, turkey, portabella risotto stuffing (in the bird), mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries (still haven’t decided how they will be cooked), roasted garlic asparagus and home made rolls. Desert will be either made by the Princess or store bought.

Usually I get a minimum 15 pounder even if it is just us. If we are having friends over, I get the biggest one I can find. Just love turkey leftovers. This year’s is only 13 pounds.

Planning a big weekend. My dive buddy from the UK will be in the states so he is flying down Thursday afternoon. We will eat, probably immediately fall asleep and head to the Keys Friday morning. The Diving Pirate Princess will be with us Friday and drive back to spend the weekend here. We will stay for a few more days of diving and kicking back in the Keys.

What will I give thanks for this year? That DD is doing well in her Senior year (academically, athletically and socially) and I am not eating pressed turkey.

We are having our dinner today since we leave for WDW on Friday morning.

Turkey
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Sweet potato casserole
Corn casserole
Cranberries
Pecan pie

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:cool1::cool1:

I'll trade you. Weekend in the Keys for WDW? At least can I come over for dinner? I am dying for a turkey fix.

We are going to MIL for Thanksgiving, but I have to bring Sweet potato Casserole and Bacon Wrapped Beans.

I put this on main thread, but these are great.

Ingredients:
Package Bacon
1 can whole green beans
1 8 oz French Catalina Dressing
Your choice of seasoning

Drain green beans and rinse
Roll 4-5 green beans in strip of bacon and stab with toothpick to hold in place
After all in baking dish, pour dressing overtop
Season
Let sit in fridge overnight

Bake in oven at 375 for 20-25 minutes. Turn over wraps. Bake another 20-25 minutes.

Bacon should start to crisp on outside. Serve hot. They are terrific

Thanksgiving... one of my favorite days of the year! :goodvibes

I used to love waking up and watching the parade then going to my Aunt's house and eating until I couldn't move... Then I got married and now we have to wake up and rush from point A, to point B, to point C...:headache: I love her family and I love my family, but holidays suck now.:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Our plan this year... we'll set the DVR so I can see Rob's son march in the parade, head to DW's aunt's house for lunch, head to my aunt's house for second lunch and then go home and try to sleep.

We'll be loading up the truck and heading south around midnight!

That's what we used to do. When we were married, we drove to everyone's house and ate several meals. Then after we had our children, we cooked the meal and invited everyone to our house. That did not work either. So, now, we go to DW's mom on Thanksgiving and DW's dad on Christmas eve and my parents for Easter, if it does not fall during Spring Break vacation.

If we were to spend more time with relative throughout the year, I wouldn't have an issue spending holidays with them.

Sorry about all the rushing around. The one thing you want to do on Thanksgiving is sit in one place and EAT!

We always go to my parents' house in Dover. My in-laws are actually 2 minutes away from them and just come over so we're all in one house. The menu:

Turkey. Lots and lots of turkey. White and dark meat.
Mashed taters
4-cheese Mac-and-cheese (made by my daughter)
Homemade applesauce
Corn
Dinner rolls
Sweet potatoes with marshmallows
Some green stuff I skip over
Pumpkin pie
Apple pie (subs for my birthday cake) :thumbsup2

We'll all go through the buffet line and then sit down and stuff our faces in front of the football game. Then we'll make a second trip through the buffet line. Then we'll fall asleep in a tryptofan-induced coma in front of the football game. Then my kids will wake me up to play football outside.

Then, for the piece-de-resistance, my parents take the kids for an overnight while DW and I head home for 24 hours of peace! :goodvibes

I love Thanksgiving.

Great idea for a thread. My family and I will be at my in-laws house with my wife's siblings and their families. Plus there are always some strays that seem to make it to the table on Turkey Day. Let's see...
Turkey
Cranberry stuff from a can
Green bean casserole
Stuffing (not as good as my mom's)
Wine
Mashed taters
Rolls
Wine
Sweet potato casserole with brown sugar, nuts, etc. (Mark- it's like dessert!)
Some broccoli concoction with cheese
Grape leaves (MIL family tradition- grape leaves stuffed with rice and lamb meat. Tasty)
More wine.
Some other stuff I'm forgetting.

Only problems are that my wife's family insists on eating dessert immediately after dinner. I need time to recover! Also, we'll be eating during the early game and that's the one I'm most interested in.

Quick question.. Why does tryptophan never knock out the kids? It's always the grown ups that are out cold by 2:00.

I think it has less to do with the tryptophan, and more to do with the amount of insulin being released into the adult body from all the food we just injested. My dds are usually so excited to play with the other children that they are lucky to get 5 bites of food before they run and play.

OK let start with saying I will be staying home and cooking a meal for my family.I started this many yrs ago,my wife was working so I invited the whole family Grandmother, mother-in law, aunts, etc over to surprise her when she got home.We had many people. Since then some have passed away, and many have gone elsewhere. However there is still my family my mother, step father and mother-in-law that still come over.
Now done to the good part. The food !!!

I will do 3 turkeys all about 18-20 pounders. one in the oven and deep fry 2.( yes I said 3 turkeys we love our turkey)
Mashed potatoes is a must
My favorite wild rice casserole
Stuffing stove top and homemade
Sweet potatoes
Green Bean casserole
corn
Cranberry sauce
home made apple sauce
Dinner rolls
salad
Jello salad something or other
pickle olives
5 pumpkin pies!!! we love our pumpkin pie also
Coconut custard pie
apple pie
oh did I say there will only be ten of us but I cook enough to feed 20 or so

I'll trade you. Weekend in the Keys for WDW? At least can I come over for dinner? I am dying for a turkey fix.

You are always welcome CJ :thumbsup2

Do you put a pecan topping on that beauty of a sweet potato casserole?

I just finished making my Turkey Rub which will be applied tomorrow.

I will be frying turkey's starting Thursday mid morning.

We're headed to my parent's in Charleston then to MIL in Myrtle Beach (yay:headache:).

Same old same old....but no one beats my fried turkey;):lmao:

What are you rubbing the bird with, seasoning or spicy stuff?

Well, I finally settled on a formula after a few years of tinkering with the ingredients...

It's a combination of Salt, Garlic Powder (NOT GARLIC SALT!!), Chili Powder, Black Pepper and Red Pepper.

It's not as spicy as you would think, and--in my opinion--it's pretty darn good.:thumbsup2

No secrets here, just some trial and error, if you want it, PM me.

Sounds tasty Fed. You need to post proportions. Would love to try it on my beer can chicken.
