No Holiday Exterior Room Decorations

I was just informed by one of my DVC contacts that Disney is taking a hard stance on door and balcony decorations this year and they are not allowed. No info on how they intend to enforce the rule.

That is nice, I do not like that Chinese crap anyway. It has nothing to do with Christmas.

We keep a door hanger bracket in our OL to hang our hand-made Christmas greetings to those that walk by. It may remind someone of the season we are celebrating. It is in english.

Here we go! Though I believe in Christmas and decorations I personally think that if you aren't at your house, they belong inside! Inside your villa, fine@ 1/2 hazard decorations here and there cheapen the look of the resorts.

This is my opinion, I realize others may feel differently!

Kind of like the whole litany of new regulations for FW campers and their decorations this year. The one I liked the best out of those is that all the decorations and cords had to be outdoor rated when this is what I found at Osborne Lights a couple of years ago.....

While I enjoyed seeing people decorate their balconies at OKW in past years, I can understand Disney wanting to stop the practice. Lighting would add a bit to the resort energy bill, but I doubt that is their major concern. The problem is likely that many guests did not clean up after themselves, leaving housekeeping additional time-consuming work to ready the rooms for the next guest. Imagine if someone had decorated a balcony, and simply left it for the next guest to "enjoy," never considering that the next guest may not appreciate their balcony being decorated, or what if they do not share the same religious beliefs as the previous occupant?

Then there are also some fire/safety concerns. Someone could fall while reaching to attach lights. People do dumb things on vacation.

I agree. I want to enjoy the ambience of the resort I am staying at, not someone else's idea of a nice decoration.
I decorate at home to my taste. I do not care to see it on the outside of the Villas when I am at Disney.

Again, my opinion and I too realize others feel differently, but I am glad

Here is the directive on the Member Site.

Resort leaders offer holiday-decorating reminder

As Disney Parks and Resorts reflect the spirit of the season with a winter wonderland of holiday decorations, many Disney Vacation Club® Members are decorating their villas in similarly festive fashion.

While Disney Vacation Club welcomes the use of safe decorations that don't damage the finishes of the villa, resort leaders are reminding Members that all decorations should be contained within the villa interiors and therefore shouldn't extend to the balcony or other exterior areas.

This policy, included in Members' condominium documents, is designed to help preserve the carefully crafted architectural stories and visual themes for which Disney Parks and Resorts are famous.

I am glad of it. Disney spends a lot of money making everything look nice and lately it had gotten way out of hand, plus no telling how much of fire hazard some of it was.

I say "Bah! Humbug!" Disney and I plan on putting my lights on the balcony at OKW when I arrive after Thanksgiving.

Its not stopped people in the past, it won't stop people this year either.

And if Disney wants to start being a bad guy and start enforcing a DVC stay rule, how about penalizing people who fail to check-out and stay in their room until 3pm!

Why should they, people do what they want, not what they should or even what is required per policy.

You can't expect people to check out on time and get punished if they don't; if you support disregarding the policy on decorations.

Just saying.

The honor policy does not work at the Happiest Place on Earth.:lmao:

I wonder if the recent fire at OKW was related to this :confused3

I don't remember a notice last year on the website.

. . . . . . The honor policy does not work at the Happiest Place on Earth.:lmao:

Sure it does! It works everywhere. The honor polocy has to do with ones self, and whether or not you can look in the mirror with pride about how you delt with the opportunities in this life.

Now excuse me; I have to go, I left my cigarettes out on the balcony . . .

Don't forget your "service dog" in the closet! Or is that your X-Mas elf!
:rotfl2:

Actually, I wonder if too many people have used nails, staple guns, etc. when putting their lights up outside, causing maintenance a lot of work in January to return the looks to their former, intact state.

I'm happy to hear they may enforce the rules this year. While I like lights as much as the next person, it does look odd to have just one balcony done up here and there, different colors, some flashing in ways that reminds me of seizure-inducing video games or as bright as a landing strip.

The statement of celebration can be made just as well from within the confines of the room as from the balcony. A strategically placed small tree on a table, some lights & garland on the counter, and maybe the smell of baking gingerbread would entice me to want to find out who's unit *that* one is more-so than any plastic or blow up nylon decor on the balcony would.

Disclaimer: I do adore seeing the blow up snoopys, mickeys etc in the yard of folks at home... just not at the resorts.

think it was the one at BLT - it was BRIGHT RED and you could see even from the MK.

that was last year.

with BLT so in your face - would expect Disney to do something here even if they let OKW and SSR do as usually.

might also expect them to try to control BWV - it is not quite as in your face as BLT - but many guests can see it. - BCV - don't even know if they would bother considering unless you are BCV guest you generally probably would not notice anything. oh forget the road (it goes to all the Epcot resorts) - so yea they might at BCV.

well since staying mostly offsite this year :rolleyes1 my one day at BLT will remember not to decorate.
