I love Disney and have gone almost too many times to mention. I was fortunate enough to get into Vero Beach for this past weekend. When I called 2 months ago, there was nothing available anywhere in the kingdom, so I said a prayer, crossed my fingers and I was able to get the room at Vero for myself and 3 other ladies who needed a weekend away from the boys, kids, dogs, co-workers, and all the stress that comes with being a woman today.

Cast of Characters:

Me: Cheryl (just turned 45 y.o) disney freak
BFF: Trish
BFF's sis: Jill
Co-worker: Lucille

We got the time off from work, booked tickets on Southwest and waited until the Thurs when we would leave the stress of New England behind.

Get to the airport and found that the flight was delayed due to weather....not a great start, however, we passed the time away with a "Bon Voyage" cocktail. One of many to come!!!!!

Once we were able to board, we stop in Philly for the transfer, run to the plane where they had been waiting for 45 minutes for the rest of us, and proceed to sit all scattered throughout the plane. I propped open "Pilot's Wife" and finish the read to stay awake.

Landing was a tad rough, but we got down and we were off running to get the car. By now it is after 11:00pm. We get to the EZ car rental, get the keys for the mini van and trek over to find the car. Unfortuately there is virtually empty that time of night and I felt like we were looking for help in a department store when you really need someone----"Hello, anyone out there?"

Anyway, we find the car (which has a small dent in it), load up, and head out. Took 1.5 hours to drive down, so by the time we check in it is after 2am and we are pooped!!!!

We check into a studio and go to sleep.

Next up: the RI girls know how to have fun!!!

Too funny. I saw your title and wondered if the author was from Rho-dyland!

Being a former RI'der, I have a natural affinity for that accent!

Looking forward to RI gals adventure at WDW!

So we get up the next morning....all very tired still and a bit cramped in the studio. I have to say that it makes no good sense to me to cram 4 adults into one of the studios here. It is far roomier to stay in an Ocean View Inn Room. And for the same amount of points, I am not certain why someone would choose the studio. The view from our Inn room was fabulous. The view from the studio was the kids pirate ship!

I go off to the front desk in search of someone to see if we can be moved...not able to do it there, have to call member services at 9 am. As it turns out, the hotel is 98% booked with 2 small weddings that weekend. I wait for 7:30 in the lobby with big tears in my eyes (due to the overwhelming fatigue and sense of dread if I can't change rooms) and wait for the store to open to get some provisions.

Head back to the girls who are still snoozing, make some coffee for them and sit on the small deck and wait until 9. Thanks to some wonderful Disney Magic and prayerful rosary I get a fabulous CM who works with the desk and we are granted an Inn Room. We head to the desk to check out, check in, book our spa appt, and then wait at the pool until it is time to go into the new room.

The bartender that day at the pool was Cosimo and he was wonderful. He placed an order of conch fritters.....love, love, love them at OKW and was super psyched to see them on the menu at Shutters!!! We also order the drink of the day...the Italian Sailor. Yummy.
vero012.jpg

We decided that the drink of the day just might be our theme for the next 4 days!!!

We lie around, get warmed in the Florida sun and then head up to the room to change for the spa.

Trish and I are getting to be quite the professional spa clients and are considering starting a little blog thing giving our advice and opinions of the fine (and not so fine) establishments that we have gone to.

Anyway, I get a wonderful facial that she creates just for me!! She starts with a warm coconut scented cleanser, follows it with a pinapple scented lotion, continues with this wonderfully clean fragranced oil on my hands and feet while my face is wrapped in a mud mask. Over all, I walked away smelling like the beach and feeling able to bounce off clouds as we head to the green cabin for some libations and food.

vero027.jpg

While there, we are treated to the full moon with it's light bouncing off the ocean!!! A photo just doesn't do it justice.

Off to bed we go to try and re-coup some sleep so we can do it all over again tomorrow!!!

And I just noticed that you are going on a girls WDW trip....done that once. Tried to do it this time but it was all booked! Have a blast!

I forgot that we saw 2 weddings on Friday. One was right on the beach and the other on the lawn overlooking the ocean.
vero022.jpg
This was on the end of the chairs/very cool.
Felt a bit bad for them since it was very windy that day.

Saturday turns out to be an absolutely beautiful day. I wake up early (work habit) and head down to the beach to take some pictures.

vero038.jpg

vero036.jpg

My son and I collect shells from the many beaches that we visit, so as a walk along the rough surf,
vero052.jpg

I pick up some and inhale that wonderful salty air. On the Vero thread there has been much talk about the beach erosion and you can see the dune and how much has washed away.

I spot my dream home
vero043.jpg
and continue my daydreaming.

After a day at the pool, we head a bit into vero to shop. Found a few deals, and a wonderful store named "I'll Never Tell." It is a jewelry store with all costume pieces, sterling silver, and nice jewelry at a decent price. The owner was a doll and she ended up giving us some ideas for places to eat and gave us some gift cards to a place called the Chop House. Apparently the Chop house had given them to some of the businesses to drum up business for themselves. We call and get directions and head over. Now, I need to remind our readers that we are on a beach vacation to relax...we are all wearing "beachy" type clothing--sun dress, shorts, capris. We get to the restaurant and it is very nice. We sit down and open the menu and "surprise" the menu lights up from the inside!!! I have never seen that before! So as we glance at this menu, we see the prices :scared1:. Now, I love to get dressed up and go out and splurge on a great restaurant....however, I plan for this splurge ahead of time, get dressed up, wear make up and everything. The 4 of us are sitting there trying to decide what to do....order just an appetizer and a glass of wine, get the hamburger for $18....:confused3....we decide it would just be best to quietly get up and walk out. So we did! Felt a bit bad for the waiter, but politely told him that this was really not the place for us.

Ended up back down off of Ocean Blvd and ate at Mulligans. It was actually quite good, food was good portioned, and the price was middle of the road. It was also Margharita night at $5.00 a glass so we made out ok. :thumbsup2

We end up back in our room with a movie to watch....Instinct with Anthony Hopkins. Not the scary movie we thought, but good.

then off to sleep for tomorrow....another "trying" day at the pool!!

I'm subscribing and loving your TR so far!:goodvibes We are taking my extended family (18 in all) on a DVC vacation next July and are hoping to switch from BLT to Vero if there is availability at the 7 month mark. I am loving the report and the pictures so far! Thanks for sharing--can't wait to read more!

I am certain you will have a blast...it is a great resort.

What a fun trip!

Yes...it was fun.

What a great trip! We have been to Mulligan's twice when we have been down there and just love it there. We like to sit outside in the big chairs and listen to the ocean and have a drink and snack.

So wish we lived down there so we could go to places like that on a regular basis! Someday. . . . . . .

We were saying that ourselves. The people next to us got the babyback ribs and boy did they smell great!!

So I forgot to mention breakfast with the characters. I didn't realize they would have it there. So we decided why not..:thumbsup2

It was all family style, eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage, cinn rolls, danish....all quite yummy. Couldn't help myself and ate 2 cinn rolls that morning :lmao:

vero062.jpg

Had Goofy and Donald at the breakfast and they stopped to chat. Got their autographs and poor Lucille who hasn't been to a character breakfast couldn't help herself and started to cry when Goofy came out!!
vero060.jpg

vero058.jpg

We sent the photo over the phone and my kids were all up in arms thinking we took the ride to the World without them!! The Horror!!! I reasurred them we were still at Vero. My husband said they were ready to revolt!!

What a nice treat that they were there!! And did I mention the cinn rolls?!?!

Liked them so much that on Sunday when we woke up, we got room service for breakfast and I ordered the BIG ONE!!! I have to say that I wouldn't order room service again for their breakfast...not that big of a portion and a big bill. I know room service is notorious for that, but I really did expect more fruit on the plate for $10.00.

While shopping we saw some turtles:
vero068.jpg

Reminded me of RI where we have painted Mr. Potatoe Heads all over the state.

vero066.jpg

This was a Pina Colada with a rasberry swirl that we had that afternoon at the pool.

vero065.jpg
And me, trying to be creative with my photo taking.

vero046.jpg
Am I coming or Going???? Just don't know?!?!?!

I can say I wish I was staying!!:thumbsup2

Well, that sums up day 2.....next, Sunday at the pool all day! Those crazy RI girls with the blue drinks!!!!!

Oops, OP. I noticed (probably when the pics arrived on your thread) that you were at Vero and not WDW.

Funny, we have never stayed at Vero and did it for the first time at the beginning of the month.

It really is a wonderful resort and that picture of your dream house is mine too! Enjoy!

That's funny....I changed the tag line to say Vero now!!

And I think I could be persuaded to share that house if I had too!! :lmao:

So I left off on Sunday. I arise early again and sneak out for my morning walk
vero092.jpg
and then head back up to room to get the girls up. We had decided that since most of the shops would be closed on Sunday (spoke with a few shop owners the night before and they all agreed that only 1/2 of the places open on Sunday) we would just stay at the pool all day.

We arrive early and get a great spot. Now gentle readers be aware that we spotted some chair savers that laid out their towels at 9 and did not arrive at the pool until 11! Of course, as we hung out, we people watched and Vero is definitely an ecclectic place. We met some nice couples there from up north, there were plenty of Grandparents with their kids and grandkids, and young couples with little ones. It also appeared that many of the families went to Disney World that day, because the pool was not crowded at all.

At 11:00 the bar opens so we get the drink of the day: a Blue electric something....forgive me, my memory is going in my old age...:goodvibes
vero074.jpg
his is Lucille getting one of our trays. It was Blue Cuarco, vodka, lemonade, and a splash of sprite......and it was good!!!

vero073.jpg

Well, the dj was back and he was really fun.
vero079.jpg
He played great songs, did lots of games (I won 2 things with the duck game), had people up and dancing, and then played Michael Jackson Trivia. I really thought I was going to rock since I was a teen in the 80's, but this little boy kicked my behind!! :goodvibes

Then it was time for the slide race!!! You bet I was doing it. I got some great advice from the life guard on the top and ended up with the fasted time of 9.8 seconds!!!
vero084.jpg

We certainly laughed that day...and boy did I get some sun! The weather was perfect for a day at the pool. That night we had dinner at Shutters and all had their pizza...I had the shrimp one and it was very tastey and filling.

We ended up back in the room, and yes, watching another movie. As you can see, we have all our fun during the daylight hours....I guess another sign of my old age!

Next day is Monday....our last full day. And I guess we left an impression on the folks at Vero because we had quite a few comments on the amount of fun we had!!!

Looks like you had a great time! Thank you for sharing with us.

thanks...we had a great time and I really can't wait to go again, this time with the family. I have to admit, a few times during the weekend I had a little guilt thinking that the boys would love it there.
