DD to Animal Kingdom Lodge ??

I have a couple of questions for all of you Disney experts. Any help would be appreciated!

We are staying at the Downtown Disney Holiday Inn for two nites prior to our Disney cruise in Feb. I will have a rental car also. I have never been anywhere close to DW and it is kind of overwhelming. I have made ADR for the Rainforest Cafe at AKL for lunch. What would be the easiest way to get from the hotel to the AKL? About how long would that take? If I drove the rental car, would i have to pay for parking?

I am planning on just exploring AKL and enjoying lunch. Then heading back to DD to check that out also. We get on the Disney Magic for 7 days the next day so I dont want to be too tired out

OK,AKL means Animal Kingdom Lodge,the Rainforest Cafe is at the Animal Kingdom park,not the lodge.There's also another Rainforest Cafe in DTD.To get to Animal Kingdom the park, driving you would just take Buena Vista Drive and follow the signs turning at Osceola Pkwy,you could also get on I-4 from 535 going west and get off at Osceola pkwy and follow that to the park.If you're going to park at AK you have to pay the parking fee.The drive from your hotel should be 10-15 minutes to AK.If you want to see AKL( the hotel) it's close to the AK park and you can also access AKL by car OR by bus from DTD,so essentially you could grab a bus from DTD,check out the AKL and take a bus to AK to eat at Rainforest and then head back to DTD to check it out by bus transferring at a hotel since no buses go from any park to DTD or vice versa only from DTD to resorts.Doing this will take a while ,driving will obviously be faster.

If we would drive to AKL to check it out the parking there would be free, right? How long of a walk would it be from AKL to the Rainforest Cafe at the park? Is there an easier way to get there?

Parking is free if you are eating one of their restaurants or visiting a guest. It is for a few hours. You could take a bus to AK, have your lunch, take the bus back and then head to DTD. It is too far to walk.
