Best Undercover Tix to buy for AP upgrade?

Has anyone done the current math to figure out which UT ticket gives the best deal for upgrading to APs?

I've seen the threads before but can't get the search feature to pull them up.

Ummm, wont really matter? The final price of the AP will be the same.. if you get a one day tick and pay the difference or something else, the total cost will be the same.. As long as you dont go over of course..

Unless Disney has changed what it has done in the past this is not correct. If you upgrade the UCT ticket before first use what you describe is true. Many have reported in the past that once the ticket is actually used for park admission and then used for a ticket upgrade they were credited the full "gate" (non-discounted) price toward the upgrade. The term used for this is bridging. Remember - you have to do this within 14 days of first use of the ticket for the value to be applied to the upgrade to the AP ticket media. In addition, if you use any plus options on your MYW ticket you can only upgrade to the premium AP.

Some have reported problems bridging tickets for upgrades and were only given the discounted price toward the upgrade. I do not know what currently happens, but I plan to find out next June. Hopefully others that have done this recently can provide more input.

Two factors actually have to be considered -- which UCT tourist ticket offers the best discount AND is less than the cost of the DVC discounted AP. Disney doesn't offer refunds if the ticket you are "upgrading" to is less expensive than the ticket you're trading in.

For what it's worth, a few weeks ago we upgraded UCT tickets purchased from before the ticket price increase to DVC AP's with no problems. We went through the turnstiles at the International Gateway at Epcot, went right back out and upgraded. It did take the poor CM awhile and a calculator to get the prices all worked out, but he was spot on (I had the math all done in advance).

I thought that one was the best bet too but I was getting confused because previously it was some WP&M ticket that was the best deal. I'm glad to see someone 'agree' with my calculations! LOL

So how much does this little trick save per adult ticket??

We have never done this before...just to clarify tho - you order UCT 6 day hoppers and they mail you the actual tickets, right? Then you get to Disney, go thru and then turn right back around & go to GS or something & ask to upgrade to an AP with a DVC discount? What happens if the CM on duty is of the "slow" variety and does the math wrong??? Are you screwed or do you go to another park & try again? And then once you have the AP's you can purchase the TIW card?

I would be worried that if I bought UCT tix too far in advance before our trip that they would change their policy & I'd be stuck with them.

$23 per adult ticket w/o the mousesavers discount, I'm not sure what the exact numbers are for a child's ticket. We have 2 adult and 2 child APs to purchase so we're looking at around $100 discount for the 4 tickets. The new mousesavers newsletter should come tomorrow so I'll check the ticket prices through their link.

I don't want to buy too early either because if the policy changes for 2012, then we'd be stuck with 6day hoppers that we can't use plus we'd still need to buy APs.
