LeapPad vs. Vtech Innotab...

I am trying to decide between a LeapPad tablet and the new Vtech Innotab for my DD6 at Christmas. We have good history with other Leapster products but like the video playing capability of the Innotab (plus the lower price point). Does anyone have any opinions or experience with these products?

I just did my research on these two products for my 6yr old son for a christmas gift. I ended up choosing and purchasing the innotab. Here are the reasons that I like it better then the leappad:
1. You are able to upload movies to it, can not with leappad
2. You can add mermory to it with a sd card, up to 16gb. Cant do this with leappad.
3. You can add music to it, can not with leappad.

We wanted to get my son something that was as close to an ipod that we could and this seemed to be the closest match. My son also has a nice digital camera so that was something that we didnt need that the leappad had.

I am trying to decide between these two as well. My 5 yr old DD is on love with the InnoTab display at the store and hasn't gotten as interested in the Leap Pad display. I think that is mainly because the InnoTab seems larger and looks more like a real Ipad to her and offers a chance to play the different games (where as the Leap Pad just gives Demo's).

But when I started to look at reviews of both, the Leap Pad seems to have much better ones compared to the newer InnoTab. I don't know what to do! LOL

As far as the movies go, I guess I should have been more specific. With the Innotab you are able to upload any movie that you own (toy story, star wars, etc..).

So the Innotab doesn't have a camera? But, you can upload your DVDs so DD could use it like a portable DVD player (Ours broke for the 15th time and I am honestly just tired of buying new ones!!).

No camera on the Innotab, but it does let you upload photos to it from your computer. Yes you can use it as a portable dvd player, the only thing I have read about that is that there is no pause, stop button. So once you hit play you have to watch it all the way thru or start it over from the beginning if you shut it off. You will need to buy an sd card to upload more than one movie because the internal memory is small. We purchased a 16gb so that we are able to put lots of stuff on it. Hope this helps.

:goodvibes the Innotab is pretty cool after reading reviews on amazon I am pretty impressed with V-Tech for responding to customers. I think the ability to download movies and mp3's is neat. I am going to stick to LeapPad for the educational side of it :goodvibes Innotab is neat and a good choice for some

I won't buy anything from V tech. We had 3 different v smiles that broke. We bought the vsmile portable and it broke. We bought the first leapster and it is still going strong seven years later. The leapster has been dropped several times by accident ( they shouldn't have been walking and playing at the same time) and it still has never messed up at all. I am pro Leap Frog all the way!!!

We are a leapfrog family and have not been disappointed with the LeapPad! Both DS 6 and DD4 :lovestruc it! It just stocked up on a few games while Target has them on sale for $19.99!

We have had nothing but trouble with any V-techs we have bought so I have to agree. I dont trust that the Innotab will last after Christmas like all of their other products that normally are clearanced out by March or prices drop dramatically.

Thought I would bump this back to the top and see if anyone had anything new to add. I still havent decided which one I like better.

I have tried to find any answers at all on how and what to download for movies on innotab? how do you take the dvd's that you already own and download it to the sd card? is there any step by step instructions you can give me and what sites to download to convert this too? I am struggling BIG TIME on how to get this done before christmas? Thanks for any type of help!!

Copying from a DVD is somewhat non-trivial, though there is software to help you do it. If you google "Copy movie from DVD to SD card", I'd bet someone has written up instructions.

That said, it's enough of a process that I wouldn't consider the ability to do so a feature for most products. (Only my opinion, of course)
