Upgraded 8yo to adult for free DDP--can I pay OOP if he wants kids' meal?

Upgraded my 8yo ds to an adult for our next free DDP trip, mainly because we don't need any more child park tickets in the drawer (using AP's for park admission; buying the minimum 2 day tix to get free ddp).

Then it occured to me, "what if he actually WANTS a kids' meal at some restaurants (Le Cellier)?" I've seen lots of questions about kids 10+ ordering off the kids' menu and using adult credits, but since he's actually 8, could I just pay OOP for a kids' meal should he prefer one and use his adult credit to squeeze an extra TS meal out of the DDP?

Similarly, if we decide we'd like to stretch out our TS credits for extra meals, could we pay OOP the child price for him at buffets since he truly is under 10? I'm not sure we'd actually end up doing this, since we generally have trouble using up all our CS credits even without extra TS meals, but it would be nice to have the option. TIA!

yes you could pay oop for whatever you want just make sure to tell the server and check you remaining credit balance when you leave the restaurant.
child age children can have child age meals.

as far as child tickets go, you can upgrade child tickets to adult with remaining days left unexpired for free. Disney doesnt punish children for growing older from what i understand the policy to be.

You shouldn't have to pay extra to order down. Just tell the server what you would like. I have seen adults order a child's meal. But, if you would like to save a TS for yourself, it makes more sense. You could end up with extra meals you don't use when you leave.

Thanks--this is pretty much what I figured, but didn't want to look like I was trying to get away with some kind of scam.

As for the tickets, I have heard that you can use unexpired days on child tickets even after the child becomes and adult for ticketing purposes. But because we will use our AP's for admission, the tickets we buy with the package will be completely unused, so we figured it was worth it to just go ahead and get the adult tickets (and get the adult DDP at the same time).

I have a couple of picky kids (DS 11 and DD14). They were able to order adult portions of kids meals at any CS where we asked: mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, etc.

I just listed his age as 10 instead of 8 when I made the reservation. It means I have to buy an adult ticket, but I'm okay with that (in fact, I wanted that).

We just did it a couple of weeks ago. We had originally booked our DS8 as a child and then figured he would like the variety of adult meals. Called back and explained and the CM was able to make the change with no problems. Must have just been the CM you had . . .
