I am looking at WBC for a week in January 2012, but am a little concerned by some negative reviews on Tripadvisor. Everyone on the DIS seems to love WBC, though. I'm just wondering if I've missed any bad reviews that may have posted on here. I'm particularly concerned about getting a condo that is in need of rehab, or worse, has bed bugs. I can deal with the timeshare sharks, but not a bad room. Thanks for any input!

I had a great experience at WBC. But having said that, I think tripadvisor is a lot more 'fair and balanced' when it comes to anything disney

I don't trust any reviews on TripAdvisor. I guess any property can get bad reviews, but I have seen horrible ones for places I love. I also booked a room in London for my daughter and son based on very good TripAdvisor reviews and it was horrid. The worst place either of them had ever stayed.

For timeshare type properties, I never book before reading the reviews on the Timeshare Users Group board at www.tug2.net . Their $15 annual membership fee to read reviews is a very small price to pay for the good information. I've never gone wrong with a property that got good reviews there and if there are "quirks", the reviews make us aware of them.

Trip Advisor is hit or miss. Sometimes I read a review and think, "Good grief, these people complain about the oddest things."

Some people just spout off on there without really saying much of anything. I try to look at the negative reviews and see if there is anything actually substantial in their reviews. Most of them are poorly written drivel because they were upset over something small. Although, occasionally there are good reasons for a poor review.

I agree with Dawn.

By the way, we just returned from a two week stay at WBC (my review is below) and I can't believe some of the reviews others have posted. :rolleyes1

Where is your review two*little*birds? curious why you picked Indian creek for next visit. THANKS!

Two*little*birds---my husband just saw the pictures from your trip and said, "Book it already!" I enjoyed your review, it was very comprehensive.

I guess I should just take Tripadvisor with a grain of salt. And actually, when I compared the excellent to the poor reviews, the ratio was more than 10 to 1, positive to negative. So pretty good odds we'll be happy with WBC, too (we're not on the picky end of the spectrum).

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback!

Tripadvisor seems to attract the negative and completely off the wall posts. I find it to e virtually worthless because of that. There are rave reviews for places that certainly don't deserve it as well. Just not reliable.

We enjoyed our stay at WBC last May. So much so that we are going back again next May. My two gripes were a bed that was not real comfortable (to me) and the room could have been a bit cleaner in spots. That was easy to fix. But, overall I would still highly recommend the place and have done so for others. Great location, great value, very nice grounds, and very nice people.

I too agree that TA can be a hit or miss with their reviews. I don't doubt that the person had that problem but sometimes people do post more negative than positive. When all goes well, you hear nothing, but when it goes horrible, you hear all.
With that being said, keep in mind about timeshare sharks.. if you are not on a timeshare promo package, you do not have to deal with them. They will ask you if you want to do a tour, you tell them NO.. N-O. I have done that more than once. When they call the room, (which they will even after you tell them when they send you to that desk at check in to get your parking permit that you are not interested).. you tell them no again on the phone and tell them not to call your room again..after that, they don't. ....at least for me, they didn't bother me again..

I loved staying there. I had a fireworks view each time I stayed. I was in a 2 bedroom and the units I had each time were clean, and not in need of any repairs.. I love their pools, I could stay in them all day and float.. only draw back is when there are tons of kids in the lazy river pools and they are hording all the tubes (3 & 4 tubes to a kid) and the parents are not correcting them. That got me upset. They were doing a lot of horseplay where they were banging into adults and seems no one was really watching them.. then there were adults drinking in the river pool and throwing their bottles and cups into the pool.. I started to wonder if they were the parents of the brats..

This upcoming March will be our third time staying there- we love it and have had no problems so far. Previously we have stayed in a 1 Bed but this time it will be a 3 Bed Pres. I wouldn't worry about the neg reviews- I think that those people are expecting the Hilton, it is not, it is a timeshare resort, so no the rooms are not done every morning. I can't see why any normal person wouldn't have a great time there! Good luck! :)

We were there this past May and we have nothing bad to say about the place. It's really clean and beautiful and most of all, it's nice to have all that space. We weren't too annoyed by them for timeshare tour as we did like most do, selected the lowest income braket. We were in tower 5 and it was all renovated. We are returning next year but we are debatting about doing like this year, 1 week at Disney and 1 week at Bonent Creek of simply do 2 weeks at Bonnet creek.

DH & I had planned on a WBC stay this Dec, but decided not to stay there because of the TA bad reviews. We always use TA for all of our trips, even international ones. We've found it to be reliable - IF one knows how to read the reviews!

Example - several good, non specific except to praise the staff, after a specific & well focused bad review = good reviews from the staff making up for the bad review.

Example - good reviews with specifics about themselves, their trip, & not an all 5 star excellent raves - usually a valid review.

Between the hotel heading & the reviews is a sorting area; select the 2 & 3 star reviews. These give a good idea of some valid complaints & then judge whether those issues are important to you.

What we saw from the WBC reviews are guests being checked in way after 4pm; not just a few but many. Also, shabby furnishings & lack of cleanliness - however, I think these reviews were probably based on certain buildings - maybe those that have not been renovated recently. Since room location can not be guaranteed, DH & I decided not to take a chance.

For those on disboards who have been in great rooms, maybe it is luck, maybe the reviews are wrong???? But for us, we have too many other choices with good reviews.

Good luck & enjoy your trip.

:thumbsup2

I'm with you Sheila. I joined TUG because I rent condos a great deal and find the reviews there to be very detailed (much much more detailed than any reviews you will get on Tripadvisor. You really get a good sense of the properties on this site). For a balanced review of a condo it's the place to go (much more reliable than a forum or Trip Advisor). The people who post reviews on TUG typically have stayed in numerous condo resorts. On other sites I get a sense that some of the people posting condo reviews / comments are in awe of the property they stayed in because it was nicer than staying in the little hotel room they did on their last trip (That's great, but not that helpful to me). For me TUG has been well worth my $15 a year membership and has helped me make good choices on about a dozen timeshare week rentals I've done.

Staying at WBC later this month for the second time. We probably won't be arriving until after midnight. How do you think that will effect available units? Do you think we'll have more of a selection than if we were checking in around 5:00 or 6:00?

I assume the parking pass / time share buzzards are active 24 hours a day ?
